Four of Philly’s league-high five selections are in the second-round and an anonymous executive tells Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer that the front office will look to sell one of their selections.
Another executive told Pompey that Philadelphia has been in contact with other teams regarding a trade for a couple of its picks. “Their last two second-rounders are in play [for possible trades]. The word is out there,” the second anonymous executive said.
Philadelphia owns the No. 36, No. 39, No. 46 and No. 50 overall picks in addition to the No. 3 overall selections. It’ll be difficult to add that many rookies to a team that will look to improve upon its 2016/17 record, as I discussed in the team’s offseason preview.
The front office is also considering taking a draft-and-stash prospect who would play overseas for at least one season. The team used this vehicle with prospects in the past, such as Dario Saric and Furkan Korkmaz.
Rosters will expand to 17 next season with a pair of two-way contracts being added to each team’s arsenal. It shouldn’t be assumed that the team will use both of those contracts on rookie players. Pompey notes that Alex Poythress, who played six games for Philadelphia near the end of last season, is a candidate to receive one of those two-way deals.
It’ll be tough for Philadelphia to add five rookies to a squad full of young talent, so it’s likely that the team makes some sort of move. Stay tuned to Hoops Rumors for the latest on the Sixers’ situation.
Bucks should buy one
Bucks have 0 roster space for another pick.
Bucks have no room for another pick
They are starting a G-League team next year and the CBA allows 2 two-way contracts.
It’s the perfect team to buy 1 or 2 extra 2nd Rounders
NETS
Heat should buy
They need to,package a few picks and okafor to some sucker …
Allen Crabbe and Meyers Leonard + 20′ 22′ 1sts and swap rights in 24′ for however many 2nd round picks they want.
Blazers are in the worst cap situation in the league. That clears just under 30M. Sixers don’t have to pay anyone except Embiid during Crabbe and Leonard contract.
You need to add players on phillys side of things
Yea I’m seeing that in the trade machine and realgm.. But that’s 2016 numbers – 8.89M cap space. They have $24,803,891 in cap space going into next season. It’s telling me no, based on this year’s cap figure, but I feel like just adding the non-guaranteed contract of Henderson would make it work based on 2017 cap figure.
I figure out how to make it work, I want 22′ and beyond with Lillard and CJ both UFAs at that point.
Crabbe and Leanoard are solid but overpaid. They can attach one maybe 2 firsts to sweeten the deal but they don’t need to get rid of all those first rd picks plus two role players just for some seconds. Better trade is Crabbe/Leonard plus first for a second or two.
Just look at their cap situation, they have to find someone to take a couple of these guys. They already said they’d attach a 1st to Crabbe, Turner, or Leonard. If you can take 2 from them, you should get 2 firsts at min.
They are in cap purgatory for years.
How much does a team pay for a 2nd round pick?
Last year it ranged from $730K (Nuggets acquiring No. 56 pick to use on Daniel Hamilton) to $3MM (Nets acquiring No. 42 pick to use on Isaiah Whitehead). The Warriors and Cavs each paid about $2.4MM to acquire the picks that were used on Patrick McCaw and Kay Felder.
Cool thanks that seems like a lot for a player that probably won’t even make the team
Many 2nd rounders do. McCaw was worth it.
What do you think it would cost to buy one? Can I buy one if it is a good price?
