The Bucks are expecting to meet with Derrick Rose for the second time this summer, Chris Haynes of ESPN.com reports. The two sides previously met to discuss his fit alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Malcolm Brogdon.
Haynes adds the compensation remains the main obstacle stopping Rose from joining the team.
Milwaukee is currently over the tax by approximately $1.6MM, though it still has the tax-payer’s mid-level exception at its disposal. That exception comes with a starting salary of roughly $5.19MM, as Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors recently outlined. The club has used a small portion of it to sign Sterling Brown.
The organization may need to shed salary in order to make a competitive offer. Haynes suggests that John Henson could be a prime trade candidate should they make that sort of move.
don’t sign him long term and it’s a good move
No. It’s not a good move, by any measure.
And I’m sorry, for someone to be a “prime trade candidate” that requires a player to have an in-demand skill set and/or an attractive salary.
Henson has neither.
So if “prime trade candidate” means if “the new GM staples a 1st round pick to the lazy goofball and finds a team who probably doesn’t have $10m of cap space anyway so they’ll have to take back a contract of a guy they’d have to release and then stretch just to sign a glass knee self-indulgent prima donna” then yeah. OK.
Wow such hate for a person you don’t know. Now if Rose does decide to do a one year 5mil deal he would undoubtedly make the Bucks a better team. Ok so no he’s not a great defender but he still can score and last season with the Knicks he showed a willingness to try and get his teammates involved. The only reason he isn’t resigning with the Knocks is because Jackson and Mills wanted to blow up the team to build around Porzingis and Hernangomez. So stop you’re blatant hating for a player you don’t know and probably was a fan of at one point or another because he will be an asset to the Bucks core lineup.
I think most of the comment was directed to Henson, outside of the ‘glass knee’ part.
If Henson actually did what you assert, Krahril, THEY WOULDNT BE DESPERATE TO DUMP HIM.
I watch 60 Bucks games/year. Henson is unplayable.
He doesn’t get stronger.
He doesn’t develop his game.
He doesn’t make people around him better.
He is so weak teams just attack him directly eliminating his one competent skill- weak side help.
He can’t shoot.
He can’t finish.
So yeah, let’s pay him $10 mill
Rose wasn’t a serious target for the Knicks after the season because he doesn’t facilitate playmaking for the rest of the team, which is built to score. Rose excels when he IS the main player/option. KP didn’t get enough touches with him at point. Talented, but not team productive. And he’s not what he once was, either.
Ummm… Henson does have a skill set that teams want? He is a great shot blocker and overall defensive presence, and he can score in the low post and high post. Henson can also make his free throws unlike most big men. The only thing making him invaluable is his huge contract.
Chandelier knees. Go to the clippers. Ha Ha
Best move of the summer Rose ist really one of the best and he comes in a good shape
As long as he stays healthy & motivated, DRose will be a big asset to any team. Kidd’s high basketball IQ will certainly help him figure out what’s the best way to play Rose & make him a very significant piece in a winning team at this point in time. People tend to forget that Rose is not even 30 so if he’s healthy & motivated & used the right way in an appropriate system, he can certainly still make an already good team even better.
Would be a great signing if it was 2011
1 and done
6 years and 3 knees ago i was so happy as a bulls fan..
You guys act like DRose is a pickup off the streets. He averaged 18-4.5-4 on 47% shooting. That’s pretty damn good production. Yeah the injuries are a concern but if the bucks don’t overpay for him I would like him in MILW. not to mention the Knicks played him 33 minutes a game last year. With Brogdon/Delly the bucks could get away with playing Rose 26-28 a game and save what’s left of those knees.
Did you actually watch him play though? Dude never looked to kick it out to Melo or Porzingis on drives and he has a broken jump shot. I get it, the pg market has dried up, but I could name you 20+ points that are currently better than him without including any points younger than Kyrie
