New York is looking to sit down with Carmelo Anthony over the next few days to discuss the possibility of keeping him on the roster. However, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that the small forward intends to tell the Knicks that he would like them to go forward by trading him to the Rockets.
Anthony expects the team to carry on a rebuild without him on the roster. He’s been willing to waive his no trade clause for either the Cavs or Rockets, but Wojnarowski hears that Houston is his preferred destination at this time.
The Rockets are determined to complete a deal with the Knicks and the franchise believes Anthony is focused on playing in Houston next season.
The Knicks have paused trade talks with both teams. Scott Perry, who was recently hired as the team’s GM, wants an opportunity to talk with the franchise’s star player. Wojnarowski adds that Perry has a history with Anthony and “strong relationships” with some of the small forward’s inner-circle.
Perry and team president Steve Mills are evaluating whether it makes more sense to hold onto Anthony through part of the 2017/18 season in order to rehabilitate the 32-year-old’s trade value. Phil Jackson, who was fired by the organization last month, publicly tried to get Anthony to waive his no-trade clause, something that arguably hurt the 10-time All-Star’s trade value.
The franchise realizes that convincing Anthony to accept returning to the team remains a long-shot. Anthony didn’t come to the acceptance of waiving his no-trade clause easily, which means the team can’t expect him to shift his decision on a whim, Wojnarowski notes.
Big mistake by rockets
If he is cool being the third fiddle, I am ok with him coming here. It’s like what Kenny Smith said, the 3rd best defender on opposing team will be guarding him. He will get shots.
great point, has melo ever had that?
maybe as a rookie
If you guys get Melo down there you will be in great shape because you will get USA basketball ball Melo. He proved that he can play off the ball and catch and shoot when surrounded by other superstars.
2 guys that always want the ball and can’t play defense on the same team. Can’t be a good thing
I highly doubt anyone takes Ryan Anderson to make a trade happen
The haters can hate, but Carmelo is welcome in Houston.
as long as they don’t take andersons deal just trade him
I would love for Melo to stay and try to work it out with the Knicks but i understand that he was put into a public awkward situation here by more than just Jackson. So many if Melo goes, I’ll still be a Knicks fan but also watch more Rockets games next season if that’s where he ends up.
How about
Melo to Rockets
Anderson, Taylor and a Rocket first rounder in 2020 and a couple of 2nd rounders to the Nets
Bledsoe to the Knicks
Russell and Onuaku to the Suns
Nets get a bunch of picks to take on the Anderson contract and lose Deangelo Russell
Suns get 2 young players for Bledsoe including Bledsoe’s possible replacement
That is absolutely terrible for the Nets. Terrible value they are getting for Russell. Anderson has a bad contract.
Russell is not a very good asset. Moving him and taking on Anderson who can be flipped later… for a future first rounder and 2 second rounders
Anderson would be a good flip candidate to a team looking for a stretch 4
Plus the Nets need draft picks
Russel is there only asset why in gods name would they do this.
Russell is not a very good asset
What you think of Russell doesn’t matter. What does matter is that the nets took on the mosgov contract and got rid of brook to get russel
I was never a big believer in Russell. But you’re right the Nets wanted him so they won’t do that deal.
So in essence the Nets would have traded Brook Lopez and a 1st round pick for Mozgov, Anderson, Taylor, and a 1st and couple of 2nd rounders. Their net gain of taking Mozgov’s and Anderson’s contract is Taylor and couple of second rounders. Awful value from their stand point.
He fits more w Cleveland than the Rockets. Shump, Frye and Thompson are more palatable than Ryan Anderson. What do you guys think? I’d take any combination of those three as the Knicks over a 3 yr deal w Ryan Anderson.
Agreed. Shumpert, and Frye, and Thompson plus a 2019 1st Rd CLE pick. For Melo and 2nd Rd pick in 2019
The Knicks act like they can afford to get rid of Melo when they never could! Without Melo they would easily be the worst team in the NBA (they’re not far away as it is). Every team has made significant moves except the Knicks. I don’t blame Melo for wanting out but the Knicks have nerve to act like they don’t need him, seems the incoming GM is reminding them.
The don’t need him. They will be bad with or without him. Might as well shoot for ping pong balls at this point. Every team has not made significant moves. Even if you think that I’m pretty sure pacers fans are not jumping up and down on the return for George despite his wanting to leave. The Knicks need to be really bad for few years and shoot for top three picks. That’s how they are going to have to build this team because as we have seen no free agent signs with them and in some cases they don’t even meet with them.
Man the Knicks sure ruined it with Carmelo, they could have got another 2 years from him till he had a opt out. Make no mistake if Melo lands on the Rockets they will be able to give Golden State a run. You would have three players in Paul,Harden, and Carmelo who can all create their own shots and produce at a high level. Melo would undoubtedly have the best supporting cast of his career in Houston and might be able to upset the Warriors if the trio sacrifices for one another like Boston did 08 to get a ring.
Kevin Love to the suns
Bledsoe and the suns #1 pick to the Knicks
Melo to the cavs
Suns are not going to take on a bigger contract and give up a pick. They likely would ask for a pick from the Cavs
He will end up in Huston one way or another, wether he is traded or bought out
Just trade him for some BBQ sauce and let’s move on.
The mavs could get involved.
Hey ladies, I’m new to this but tell me: who would bark at this deal:
HOU gets Melo
NYK get Powell and Matthews
DAL gets Anderson, Ariza and a 1st from HOU
Why?
Houston get their superstar. Sure they have to give up Ariza, but he’s on an expiring contract anyways and they should be able to sign some SF vets for the min.
Dallas gets rid of Dwights and Wes’ Albatross contracts and adds lots of spacing + they can still sigh Curry in 2018
NYK gets two high character guys for their rebuild and can open a new chapter. Dwight still has upside too. Cap wise, the net difference will be 10m for Dwight in 2019/2020 – that’s it.
The trade works financial wise according to espn trade machine.
What do you think?
I’d say the first round pick should go to the knicks.
Why would the Knicks buy out Carmelo all u smart guys. He’s owed 55 mil. If a trade doesn’t happen he’s stuck and its his own damn fault. No for Melo for me.
