The subject of trade rumors for most of the year, Carmelo Anthony is frustrated by reports that Knicks general manager Steve Mills is putting those talks on hold and may be having second thoughts about a deal, according to Frank Isola of The New York Daily News. Isola suggests that the other teams involved in a proposed four-team Anthony trade scenario are also frustrated by the latest developments.
While Anthony’s camp appeared to be pushing for most of the week to complete a deal – likely with the Rockets – a report on Thursday night indicated that the Knicks had paused trade discussions with Houston and Cleveland. The move coincided with the arrival of new general manager Scott Perry, whose new deal with the Knicks was finalized today.
According to Isola, it’s possible that the Knicks just want Perry to settle into his new job before moving forward with an Anthony trade, but the club’s changing stance still comes as a surprise to many of the parties involved. As Isola writes, Anthony has expressed a willingness to waive his no-trade clause for the Rockets, and has been preparing to be sent to Houston.
“From what I understand, Carmelo is under the belief that he’s going to the Rockets,” a source tells the Daily News. “That’s what the Knicks have been telling us; that they’re trading him. I can’t imagine that after all he went though last season with Phil [Jackson] he’s happy with this.”
Isola suggests the parameters of a deal are in place, with some details that need to be finalized, and adds that two people close to the talks think something will get done eventually. Earlier reports from Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com and Marc Berman of The New York Post suggested that the Knicks want Anthony to meet with the new front office and head coach Jeff Hornacek, and may be more open to keeping him. However, Anthony isn’t expected to be very receptive to that idea.
Berman also indicated that the team holds out hope that Carmelo would be willing to expand his wish list to more teams besides the Rockets and Cavs, which perhaps is a hint that the Knicks may not be entirely satisfied with their return in the proposed multi-team trade.
According to Isola, Anthony is concerned about his public image and doesn’t want his potential departure from the Knicks to be messy. It may be getting too late for that.
making 25 mil.. Cry about it
You already are crying about it
he’s not making 25 MIL so that’s why he’s crying about it haha
Lol seriously man people are really out here to hate on anyone making more money than them haha
The craziest thing about people who think athletes should do anything people say because they are getting paid millions, is that it really shows what kind of person they are. It shows you would do anything if someone was paying you and not have any self respect for yourself. Melo doesn’t want to play for an organization that has treated him terribly, so it’s not about the money it’s about his pride as a man. Which if you believe people should shut up because they’re getting paid (like people that hate on Kaepernick too), then you probably lack any sort of self respect or pride.
No offense, but everything you posted is a load of crap. NBA players are the most spoiled professional athletes in the world. I find your feeble attempt at making excuses for them laughable.
How are they the most spoiled athletes in the world? Being an NBA player means you’re in the top .0001% of basketball players in the entire world. Why shouldn’t they deserve millions and a say in where they play?
He is getting paid millions and he did get to choose where to play! Nobody forced him to sign that deal with the Knicks.
Carmelo brought all his problems on himself. Refused to play defense or embrace triangle. He could have done something special under a guy who won 11 championships but refused to get it. And let’s not forget the embarrassment of knocking up a stripper recently, leading to his divorce. I just hope this doesn’t lead to Marbury territory though it’s getting there.
Seriously they are entertainers. They didn’t cure cancer or make the world better for humanity. Sorry but too many are impressed by their own self importance. They just play basketball!
You’re one of FEW Intelligent ones, Respect!!!
Can you explain your reasoning behind this statement?
My last comment was aimed at another comment. Trade Rumors really needs to work on the Android app comments section. It doesn’t work well.
Keep him.
If he really, really wants to go to the Rockets ….
…let’s hear HIS concessions !
How can HE help the Knicks trade him ?
His market stinks not knicks fault
I agree. Market is also limited bc of his no trade clause and the 15% kicker doesn’t help. It’s a lot of money for a player that is trending down. Knicks are dysfunctional and I could care less that he’s frustrated.
There’s just so much working against a Melo trade for them to get decent value and for someone to be able to take on the salary. He’d likely have to waive most of his trade kicker, if not all of it, and there are only a few teams that could probably make a move for him, where it also makes sense, but then the question is if he’d waive the NTC. There is no iteration of a deal where I can see Houston or Cleveland being able to trade for him…
I actually had to look this up. I didn’t realize NBA players could decline the trade kicker. Good call
CP3 waived most of his trade kicker in the move to Houston
His frustration is valid. Jackson was publicly verbal about his desire to trade Melo since the 2016 trade deadline. Melo stood pat and repeatedly stated he wanted to remain a Knick. Then Jackson gets fired but Mills made it clear that he also was committed to trading Melo. Then Melo finally caved and said he’d be willing to waive his ntc in order to go to Houston or Cleveland. A deal gets close to done and now they want to put all trade possibilities on hold. So yea, he has a right as a human being to be frustrated. I personally want Melo to stay. He was the only reason I started watching Knicks games religiously. But no Matt where he is playing next season I’ll continue to watch him play. Hopefully it’s for the Knicks because I truthfully do not believe Porzingis is ready to lead the Knicks and their new youth movement.
I know melo wants to go to Houston but why? no offense to CP3 but in terms of playoff experience he can’t tell melo nothing he’s been further in the playoffs then him he needs to head to clevland where he can learn a lot of shit from lebron even kyrie and kevin love because they are champions
Phil might have been a blowhard but, well, he wasn’t necessarily wrong when he said Carmelo would be better off somewhere else…
Damn you guys are harsh. Would you guys rather the owners make all the money? Look at the macro…Billionaires who won’t even fund their own stadiums and you all get mad at a basketball player who makes a small fraction of the amount Dolan makes
A, if you don’t like how overpaid athletes are, stop buying the jerseys, tickets and League Pass. They don’t get paid millions if we fans aren’t buying billions.
B, to stubborn to learn from Phil??? Max was a disaster. He wanted the team to run the triangle, but didn’t want to put in the effort to teach it himself. He did not add the kinds of players who fit in the triangle system. How was Derrick Rose a good addition for the triangle? John Paxson, Derek Fisher, those are triangle point guards. Pat Beverly would have been a much better fit, but Phil went out and got Rose!
C, like Melo or not, he is a well liked guy in NBA locker rooms. The ten cabcer thing is far overstated. A rumour comes out that Portland would like him, and CJ McCollum takes to social media with a picture of Melo in a Blazers uniform. Yeah, there’s a guy who’s heard all the rumours and isn’t interested in Melo coming to town!
LBJ has stated that he would love to play one season with Wade, Paul and who? That’s right, Carmelo Anthony.
Look, I’m not an Anthony super fan, I do agree that his production is sinking, his contract is killing his trade market and he’s made discretions. I’m just tired of how much people rip the guy.
