JULY 11: Jeff Green has officially signed with the Cavaliers, reports Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. The team announced the signing in a Tuesday evening press release.
JULY 7: The Cavaliers have reached a deal with forward Jeff Green, Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today tweets. Brian Windhorst of ESPN adds that the deal in place is a one-year pact worth $2.3MM.
After signing a previous one-year, $15MM deal with the Magic last offseason, Green averaged 9.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. The considerable pay decrease on the heels of a career worst season comes with a drastically improved chance of playing for a winner and is a low-risk, high-reward move for the reigning Eastern Conference champions.
The 30-year-old has bounced around since coming into the league in 2007/08, some of his best years coming early in his career with the Thunder, and as a result it’s been difficult to truly assess what he’s worth. That, perhaps, has never been more evident than when one compares the contrasting deals the forward signed this summer versus last.
wow
it would be nice to make $2 million in just 1 year. set for life after that.
$2m will not set anyone for life. Divide $2m by his anticipated remaining years of say 45? That’s $44,000 and that’s not considering that probably 40% of that $2m is going to agents and taxes.
So what you’re saying is my less than 44k is worthless? Dang Donald.
Very underrated signing, on the Cavs he won’t be ask to do much but do his best defensively and knock down a couple shots. He is certainly capable of that.
Lol defense
In Cleveland thats all he would need to focus on.
I’m really surprised that he’d sign for this little, but I like this move for the Cavs
He’s 30 and can’t produce in a big role, sure he has come to grips with that playing in Orlando,Memphis, and Boston. On the Cavs he serves as a good option when Lebron hits the bench for some rest to at least score and defend better then Jefferson.
what makes you think he can score or defend better than Jefferson?
He’s younger.
lol that’s it? You’d think talent might play a factor but I guess not.
Your logic is flawed. I’m younger than lebron but he is a far superior basketball player.
Lebron as an athlete is amazing but as a basketball player he is overrated in my opinion, he has no go to moves and freezes up in big moments and shies away. I am just saying Jeff Green can play the 3 and the 4 and play in this current up and down small ball game.
Critiques Lebron’s game
Praises Jeff Green
…..you can’t make this shit up fam
LeBron does have go-to moves, he either bullies his way to the rim (via postup or drive) or does his little jab step (if he doesn’t have his dribble) or step back (if he does) jumper.
Dionis, lebron’s arguably the best driver in the NBA. Smart players who study lebron’s game know the best way to guard him is to give him the shot. You’ll live with them.
Once he left skid marks on the floor. He’s a freight train. That’s his go to move
LeBron actually plays pg, sg, sf, pf and c. All in the course of a game. With numbers that boggle the mind. One of the all time greats if not the goat.
The bar isn’t set very high in that regard
Exactly…I didn’t say he was a stud but that’s still worth more than the minimum and he could have gotten much more money had he signed elsewhere
Wow solid signing for the Cavs. Worst case scenario it gives them a slightly younger and more athletic version of Jefferson who could be counted on more to give LeBron a rest. Plus, with LeBron and Kyrie’s passing and driving ability, it should give him open jumpshots/easy cutting lanes to operate with.
Lebron needs to put a ski-mask on and stop getting passive when he needs to close out games.
Hard to close out games when they’re down 15 against the Warriors
So he should put a ski-mask on to limit his vision? I mean I get the reference (I think); he looks to pass more than shoot, but that’s just the way he is. He isn’t the cold-blooded shooter that Kobe or MJ (and I’d even say Kyrie) is. I think that LeBron knows his limitations as jump shooter and while I agree he should be a bit more agressive and look for his own shot, you can’t really fault the guy if he’s passing the ball to an open shooter. As the leader of the team, and one of the best players in the world, he should be trying to make sure he gets the big shot opportunity, but if he’s giving up a contested jumpshot/drive to the rim for an open shooter on the perimeter, its up to his teammates to make the shot.
So what? If he missed the layup in the paint you’d probably be arguing he should’ve passed it Korver “One one of best 3 point shooters in NBA history!!!”
I don’t blame you Dionis, I just think you’re being brainwashed by SAS ESPN;masters of creating controversy out of thin air
Cavs should have kept David Griffin. Now that he’s gone they’re going after the most overrated players in the league smh. Jeff Green and Jamal Crawford are NOT GOOD
Yeah Jamal Crawford the 3X sixth man of the year is not a good player
lolololol as if the voting system actually means anything ahahhahaah. They just vote for whomever has the highest ppg off the bench most of the time. BESIDES it’s not even relevant!!! How old is he now? 38? Yeah good luck with that. Fancy dribbling and shot making is fun to watch but fun doesn’t make you better.
Exactly, how that doesn’t make them better? Dribbling creates penetration which lead to fouls or open shots. Why df wouldn’t shot making make them better either? Stick to porn young fella
Key words here are “fancy” and “fun”. Making tough shots can at time be useful but I’d rather have a guy who puts himself in position to take and make easy shots rather than just chuck it. Same with the dribbling. It looks really great, but it doesn’t always translate to the penetration you’re talking about. At this stage of his career Crawford ain’t penetrating into the paint, and if he does he isn’t finishing.
Cavs need 2 way players that can hit open shots and defend. With Lebron and Kyrie on your team you definitely don’t need someone who’s strength is creating his own shot, and weakness of bad defense.
Dude didn’t have to go so far initially, but Jamal Crawford is a terrible fit on the Cavs.
I disagree. If Korver can fit on the team, then Crawford can too. At the very least, it gives the Cavs someone other than Kyrie and LeBron who can create their own shot. Love has lost some of the aggressiveness to do so while JR Smith’s “creating your own shot” is basically a fadeaway contested shot. Granted Crawford’s is a lot of the same, but he has some dribble moves that allow him to create a little more space.
Korver doesn’t fit either lol
Tell that to the Warriors (or at least Steph Curry).
It’s called depth. It’s a great thing that all teams need, especially teams that are cap-strapped.
I like it offensively for them. I’d like it a lot more if they had any capable defenders, besides LeBron and Shumpert.
Shumpert can’t shoot a rock in a ocean.
Shumpert’s a black hole on offense. When the ball comes to him you don’t see it back. I was so happy to see him go. He’s a poor man’s Patrick Beverly with a horrible shot.
You mean like Love? You young bucks heard a talking head once say Love can’t defend. It’s repeated and in till all the Millennials are saying it. Quick. Who had the best defensive rating in the cavs last season. Kevin Love did.
How will his family survive on a mere $2.3M?
Lol
Jeff signed a one year $15M with the Magic last year. This year he signed 1 year Veterans minimum. It shows you his regression, but I like Jeff
man they should try to get thabo sefloshia, luc
Mbah a Moute or tony allen
Imho Mbah a Moute would be he best fit.
He will help them beat GSW(jk)
I really like this signing
Cavs should have signed Tony Allen and played him in units with Kyrie. Allen’s lack of floor spacing wouldn’t matter as much since Kyrie never gonna give the ball up anyways
Never is a long time for the best pg in the game.
I love Kyrie Irving and I think his game is perfect as is (besides the fact that his defense could use some improving), but let’s calm down about the best PG in the game. Curry, Paul, and Westbrook are all arguably better.
Westbrook and Curry are better than Kyrie, but he’s on of my favorite players too.
