The Celtics have signed 2016 No. 16 overall pick Guerschon Yabusele, according to the team’s website. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but since Yabusele was drafted within the last three seasons, he’s under the same restrictions as the rest of the rookie class.
Yabusele played last season for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association. After the season concluded, he came stateside to play for the Maine Red Claws, Boston’s G League affiliate. He played in five G League playoff games for the Red Claws, where he averaged 12.8 points per contest while shooting 49.0% from the field.
The French native was considered one of the best international prospects entering the 2016 draft. He played professionally in France for three seasons before declaring for the NBA’s draft.
Hayward
Crowder
Brown
Tatum
Morris
Yabusele
All SF, Yabusele will play like 9 minutes per game, another example of terrible asset management by Ainge. Yabusele, Tatum or Brown and a pick would’ve been enough for Butler/PG13 but instead the Celtics are just overloaded
yabusele and the Celtics pick would not of been enough for Butler or pg13
A first rounder next year, Brown/Tatum, and Yabusele…outweighs Oladipo/Sabonis by a mile and arguably better than Dunn/Lavine/Markkanen combo.
That would be to much for the C’s to give up for players who may not stay past their current contracts I believe the C’s were smart in those deals but I do agree the need to trade 2 or more of the young players they have and maybe that will at the deadline for Cousins or another big
So its not smart to move those assets for Butler (who has another year left after this year) but it would be for Cousins (who is a free agent at the end of the year)? The Bulls and Pacers called Ainge’s bluff and while Ainge still walked away with a good deal (Hayward), the asset management was terrible. At some point the number of players will catch up to the Celtics and they will likely have to cut talented players. I also wouldn’t be surprised if some future aspiring draftees in the next couple of years (mainly late first rounders and second rounders) avoid working out for the Celtics in fear that they’ll be forced to ride the bench and eventually hit free agency with little to no playing time to boost their stock.
No I agree with you a 100% at the beginning of the off season I was all for getting Butler but I’m not mad that we didn’t because we ended up with Hayward scoring was never the problem it was rebounding and I would trade for Cousins because I believe he would sign up to stay
Scoring was a huge issue for the Celtics in clutch situations, one guy had to shoulder the entire scoring load when it counted. Thats not how teams win in the NBA.
Yabusele is too big to play SF, probably a big PF, it says he’s 260
Yabusele and Morris are both PFs… not that it really matters in Stevens’s system. It’s really just a PG 3 guys and a big. They mix and match there will be plenty of playing time to go around. Before the traded the 1 pick people were flipping out about guard overload but now they add 2 wings and all heck is breaking lose. It’s fine.
Strongly agree Connorsoxfan.!
Ainge tried to get both with great assets but the teams would rather send them out west so they don’t have to face them
I know I missed something so can someone tell y it’s the G-league now not the D-league and y did they change it
Gatorade sponsorship.
Also, Google is your friend. ;)
I’m sorry you had to go out of you way to answer it
Lol
About the only qualm I have with Ainge is the AB deal. I felt like the Celtics should have held onto him longer as insurance in case IT can’t go out of the gate with his hip injury, and I felt Bradley was vastly underrated as a leader on that club.
That said, Ainge has positioned us well, and I’m at least glad he’s gotten treatment for his infatuation with guards.
Maybe it never occurred to U Ainge critics that C’s didn’t want George….period. He is over rated, over paid and a choker in the clutch. O-fer with game winning shots. He passes to a teammate and then criticizes the guy for taking the last shot!! Get out of Indiana….good riddance! He will screw OKC!
I agree to a certain extent. The C’s needed a BIG time player. Hayward will be a great addition. And maybe all these guys mesh well and are the deepest team in the league. Maybe ever! And that’s a problem for LBJ. His mins will begin to catch up to him. They should’ve cut them this year. The Celtics will win the East. And then win the title as well.
