2:07pm: Rose will likely make a decision this weekend, tweets Sam Amick of USA Today. The Lakers and Cavs appear to be the favorites, but Amick notes that Rose’s agent – B.J. Armstrong – has also been talking with the Bulls.
The Bulls are an unexpected addition — they already have a handful of point guards and a reunion with Rose doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense for the team at this point, so we’ll see if there’s any follow-up on that front.
1:15pm: The Cavaliers are reportedly engaged in “serious” discussions with Derrick Rose, but Cleveland isn’t the only team pursuing the veteran point guard. According to Chris Haynes and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com, the Lakers have a Thursday meeting lined up with Rose.

The Lakers have been in the market this summer for a veteran point guard to serve as a mentor for rookie – and Summer League MVP – Lonzo Ball. The club used its remaining cap room to sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, but still has the $4.328MM room exception available to offer free agents.
If Rose’s decision comes down to Cleveland vs. Los Angeles, he’ll have to weigh a handful of competing factors. ESPN’s report suggests that playing on a contender will be a consideration for Rose, and that would be a big check mark in the Cavs’ favor. Playing in Cleveland would also allow the former MVP to be closer to his family in Chicago.
However, the Lakers hope to pitch Rose on the fact that they can offer him a larger contract and more playing time, per ESPN. As Haynes tweets, sources say that Rose “just wants to play ball,” so if the Lakers can sell the free agent point guard on a significant, defined role, it’s possible they’ll gain the upper hand on the Cavs.
The Bucks have also met with Rose, though it’s not clear if they’re still in play as a potential landing spot.
Interesting. If he chooses the Lakers for more money and more playing time I wonder how Lebron will take that strike out after being disappointed in their off season. I think he’d be stupid to go to Cleveland with really no playing time available there especially in the playoffs and you’d get half the money the Lakers can give you. More playing time and more money is a no brainer even if you do have a chance to go deep into the playoffs with the Cavs but let’s face it you’re not getting past the Warriors if you make it to the Finals and might not get past the Celtics in the playoffs either.
Cavs are still better than anyone in the East. The Celts signed Hayward (great) but lost their best defender in Bradley along with Olynyk. They gained 25 points and lost 25 points. Hayward does give them a solid go to guy to compliment IT but still, Avery was an important part of that team.
Not sure about Rose tho. He’s Kyrie without the outside J. He would be interesting as a 2nd squad type but his durability is suspect. If he signs for the minimum then he’s a steal.
KnicksCavsFans, say what you want but I still say the Celtics improved, they did lose defense you’re right but adding Haywards offense and also adding Tatum who I think is going to be a very solid player improved that team while the Cavs did nothing to improve in my opinion. I don’t think anyone will beat the Warriors unless one or two of their players get hurt but with the Cavs staying idle and being another year older I don’t see how anyone thinks they are absolutely a lock to make it to the finals. I get it that they have Irvine, Lebron who is still the best player in the league and Love but in this league with teams gettting better you can’t stay the same and even Lebron and Irvine know that which is why they aren’t too happy with this offseason. They most likely will make it again but it’s not a lock and if they do make it and face the Warriors again they still lose unless a miracle happens.
My little sister’s 8th grade JV team is better than anyone in the East. It’s not saying much.
The champion will come from the West, again. Rose would be wise to take the money, extra playing time, and nice weather of L.A.
Didn’t the Cav’s win just 2 seasons ago
Key words there “thebare”..2 seasons ago, they are no match for the Warriors.
People said they weren’t a match for the Warriors 2 years ago too
I think Rose is after money. He keeps taking all these meetings and no deal yet. Rose still has a lot left in the tank but I’m guessing his knees are every teams issue. I think it would be in his best interest to sign with the Lakers for one season, continue to build his value, then after the season look for a long term situation but as a backup. That way he maximizes his time on the court without further injuring himself.
I agree ^
2nd that.
Lakers can offer more money, more losing, more wear and tear on his body, more workload to carry the team, and more time spent on a non-contender.
What a deal!
yup
Except LA is a way better place to live than Cleveland
Says someone who’s probably never left the West Coast….
I’m from the Midwest, and have been to Cleveland. Yea…..LA is a way better place to live than Cleveland.
New York to LA ? Media frenzy! Cleveland w/ old LeBron cold weather!
Tough choice. HaHa
Cavaliers finals contenders. Lakers lottery team. Haha. Players want winning. Not geography. Ask Kevin Love.
I would like to ask K. Love but I haven’t seen him since the finals!
Did he play?
Yes he played in all 4 rounds of the playoffs. Last time I checked he was an all star. And how about those Lakers. How many playoff rounds did they participate in lol.
“Come lose with us while we put a heavy workload on you, age you a year, and dump you into free agency next year after helping us train and improve your replacement!”
– Lakers pitch to Rose
What heavy workload are you talking about? The Lakers are gonna want to get as much burn out of Lonzo, KCP, and Clarkson as possible this season. Rose will be the backup and may even have to play some off the ball to get minutes in LAL this year.
In the end, he probably goes back to Chicago
Signed with Cavs today.
Would you rather play alongside Kyrie or Ball? I think you push JR to the bench in Cleveland, but I think Clarkson starts in LA.
The Lakers starting lineup is Lonzo, KCP, Ingram, Randle, and Lopez. Clarkson is first guard off the bench
Not if we sign D. Rose
forgot about KCP so yea where does Rose fit in
Trade Bledsoe Knight Len and Chandler and acquire Derrick Rose and Drummond and the Suns has the brightest future of all teams
LMAO!!!
Coz of his health issues, coming off the bench & playing “quality minutes” instead of major minutes in a title contender like the Cavs would be more reasonable for D-Rose right now. It could also preserve his body & prolong his career if reinvents himself right now to an instant offense & impact player off-the-bench. From MVP to Best Sixth Man in a championship team.
Rose won’t start on any of the teams in question, let alone get a lot of minutes.
The Lakers interest caught me off guard because of Clarkson, so maybe Magic has a taker for that contract too.
the bulls tho…
Separate of where Rose ends up, does anyone else find it funny that just 12 months ago he was touting being a max player on a “Superteam”.
If he wants a longer off season then by all means join the Lakers
beany boy is mad at the Lakers. LA must have caused beany boy a lot of pain in the past.Too bad beany. And there’s more pain comin’ for you from the Lakers in the years to come.
You really think the Lakers can complete in a loaded West? They’d be the 5th or 6th best in the East at best.
As a Bulls fan, the lakers would be stupid to add rose to be a mentor to lonzo. Their games are complete opposites. Derrick is a shoot first guard with no three point shot to speak of London is a pass first shooter I love Derrick still but he needs to land in the right situation in order to succeed. Being the cavs sixth man would be a great fit as he can have the ball in his hands a lot with his only objective being to score. The spurs would also be a good fit as Popovichs system is very kinda to attacking point guards (tony Parker). Same with Rick Carlisle system but there set at pg. bucks also could use an scoring pg sense Giannis will have the ball in his hands. I think Derrick should go to the spurs and carve out a role as a sixth man. He could be the bill Walton of our generation. A former MVP who’s often injured who reinvented himself as a sixth man on a championship caliber team
You make gold points. Bulls/Rose fan here, also. Wherever he goes, he can’t play a ton of minutes. We both know how that movie ends.
Come on Twolves sign and trade for him. You know you want to Thibs. We can pay him 7 mill for being on a contender
Cleveland will be a irrelevant soon enough. LBJ is leaving again, Kyrie wants out. Teams gonna blow real soon
