JULY 17th, 6:25pm: Jerebko has officially signed per team release.
JULY 12th, 9:25pm: Free agent forward Jonas Jerebko will sign a two-year, $8.2MM deal with the Jazz, tweets Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com.
The 30-year-old has spent the past two-and-a-half years in Boston. He was part of the Celtics’ rotation throughout last season, averaging 3.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 78 games.
Jerebko is the second free agent signing of the day for Utah, which reached an agreement with Thabo Sefolosha this morning. The addition of Jerebko is a clear sign that the Jazz intend to part ways with Boris Diaw, whose $7.5MM contract for the upcoming season won’t be guaranteed if he is waived by Saturday.
Utah has multiple options for signing Jerebko, depending whether it chooses to operate over or under the cap. The Jazz are able to fit Sefolosha and Jerebko under the cap and keep their $4.3MM room mid-level exception, tweets Bobby Marks of ESPN.com.
The 6’10” Jerebko, a native of Sweden, made $5MM with the Celtics last season, but seemed destined to go elsewhere as Boston concentrated on freeing up cap space to sign Gordon Hayward. The 39th pick in the 2009 draft, Jerebko spent his first four-and-a-half NBA seasons with the Pistons.
I’ll miss Jerebko. He at least brought his all and intensity each time he stepped on the court. Plus I’ll never forget him call out Kevin Love to stop flopping lol.
I would have liked to see him stay in Boston, but there wasn’t any room for him. I wish him well though as Whenever he did play, he played hard.
Good for Jonas. Good guy who provided a lot of energy and life off the bench for the Celtics. I hope this is not the Jazz thinking they are getting back at the Celtics for signing Hayward. Just seems a little odd but Jonas can help a lot of teams off the bench. I just get the impression the Jazz are still pissed off that GS made the move but maybe that’s because we heard that rumor all year long. As if GH knew he was going to do this all along. Probably not the case.
GS?
I wish we could have kept him instead of signing Baynes. But Baynes is known for his rebounding whereas Jerebko is more known for his offense game. I just think that since both Baynes and Jerebko are the same height Jerebko could work on his rebounding ability and make it one of his strong suits and maybe he would be willing to take the 4.3(rough guess) that we offered Baynes for 1 year instead of taking almost double for 2 years but play for a system that he knows and it is an organization in win now mode where as the Jazz aren’t(especially after loosing Hayward and Hill)
Boston needed a big. Jerebko is more or a 3/small ball 4
Utah is team Euro ball
I’m going to miss the Swedish Swish so much
Jerebko a real team player in Boston. Good luck, Jonas.
Another player leaving that has weakened the Celtics.
If you think this weakens Boston there is something wrong with you. Not sure what games everyone else was watching last year but he just frankly wasn’t that good. He wasn’t the worst player ever and I wish him luck in Utah but he’s just not that great of a player. I think Morris has been hidden by playing in smaller markets throughout his career and though Bradley may be the better player, that trade isn’t as big of a drop off as some people seem to think. Olynyk and Amir are the only other notable losses and they just weren’t that good.
