JULY 10th, 8:06pm: The signing is official, according to a press release on the team’s website.
JULY 1st, 8:05pm: Veteran point guard Jose Calderon has agreed to a deal with the Cavaliers, according to a tweet from his agency, Priority Sports.
Calderon, 35, will receive a one-year contract for the league minimum, which will pay him about $2.3MM, relays Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, although it will only count roughly $1.47MM against Cleveland’s cap. Facing potentially huge luxury tax payments, the Cavs have been searching for inexpensive help for their bench.
The addition of Calderon may be a sign that free agent Deron Williams won’t return to Cleveland after signing with the team in late February.
Calderon split last season between the Lakers and Hawks and put up career lows in scoring, assists and field goal percentage.
But deron Williams was so good
I really hope you’re being sarcastic hahaha
Not sure if he has anything left but gotta be a step up from deron
Lebron needs to go dog mode this coming season, he is going to become a laughingstock if he keeps losing to the Warriors. And for those saying he’s going to the Lakers, thats not happening.
Your comments on EVERY post make me wanna scream. Like Lebron, a laughingstock?? Dude come on.. even if he went into straight dog mode he couldn’t beat the warriors
They did already though.
I think some of you need to start watching more games instead of just getting on espn or letting TV fill your head with stats. I am by no means a Lebron James hater but I saw every single game in the Finals and Lebron simply just got outplayed by Durant, Durant came up huge in 4th quarters and Lebron did not. Lebron should have known if he lost his matchup with KD the series was over.
dude said he watched every finals game Hahaha, 5 games and he put up #s. He and kyrie can’t beat 4 all stars. I don’t even like LeBron but you sound uneducated
I have to agree with the fact that numbers are not all telling.
Its not about putting up relatively good numbers, its about outplaying the opposing team on any given day.
You can fill the stat sheet all you want but the only thing that matters is winning.
Players don’t win championships, teams do.
Are familiar with LBJ’s stats in the finals? Outplayed? Look…the Warriors team was much better with Durant. Cavs would need to play a near perfect series with Kyrie, Thompson, Smith, Love and Kover playing near perfect. It didn’t happen. But stop being a revisionist. Lebron shot 56% from the floor, 39% from 3 pt line and scored 34 pts with 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 1.5 steals per game. In fact, he was 8 pts shy of leading BOTH teams in points, rebounds and assists for the 2nd straight finals.
How do you know for sure he’s not going to the Lakers next year?
Lebron didn’t want to play with Wiggins when he came back to Cleveland. He doesn’t want to play with a developing team at this stage in his career. Lakers are young and still will be when Lebron can be a free agent. Plus why would he want to go West when he’ll have to face the Warriors, Spurs and Rockets just to get to Finals.
So if LeBron would be a laughingstock, would that make Kyrie and Kevin Love (along with the rest of the Cavs players from the last three years) laughingstocks too? And what about the rest of the league? LeBron and his Cavs are the only team to beat the Warriors when it mattered, so is the rest of the league laughingstocks too? People like you (aka LeBron haters) will always find a reason to bash on him. And I’m not saying he’s not deserving of some of it, but there’s always a reason whether it be “Kyrie was the reason they won it last year” or “with the Cavs roster, of course they should’ve won” or “Curry was hurt” or “LeBron didn’t do enough to carry his team.”
You forgot Draymond and the BS technical foul, which led to the suspension…
But seriously saying LeBron and the Cavs being the “ONLY TEAM” to beat the Warriors when it really mattered that isn’t a very strong case for your side of the argument…Only a VERY FEW, limited number of teams even had that opportunity to beat the Warriors…Which, in turn, excluded some pretty solid teams…
Obviously, no sane person considers Lebron, nor his team, a laughing stock…That’s just complete nonsense, and there’s no need to even respond to that…lol
LeBron and the Cavs are far from laughingstocks.
The Knicks were a laughingstock this year and the Nets draft situation puts them in that boat too.
LeBron is reaching the finals consistently. I wouldn’t consider any olympic 3-time Gold medalist and 5-time silver medalist of any event a “laughingstock.”
And thats referring to NBA championships only.
A hypothetical comparison to olympians of course.
I’m soooo tired of everyone acting as if that Draymond Green missing 1 game was the reason the Warriors lost. Ummm…he WAS on the floor for the other 3 losses. In game 6 Green scored 8 pts and the Cavs blew them out by 14 pts. In game 67 Green had an amazing performance leading the Warriors with 32 pts, 15 rebounds and 9 assists and the Cavs STILL pulled out the victory. Let’s stop actingnot probable as if he the 2nd coming of Jordan.
Jordan and Kobe never went to 7 straight finals. He’s in Jerry West territory if they keep losing though except he already has 3.
Irrelevant
I’m not going to complain about a minimum salary signing (especially given their cap situation), and as a source of veteran experience, Calderon is one of the best out there. But that being said, this doesn’t help them get any younger, and the Finals showed that a bunch of mid-30s guys can’t keep up the Warriors. I’ll take it, but this is just kinda “mehhh” for me.
Agreed… what’s the point of bringing in veterans who ride the pine all season if you aren’t using them to help develop young players? I’m worried LeBron is unintentionally sabotaging the future of the Cavs (3yrs down the road or so) by bringing in his buddies to sit and not really contribute on the court. I’m curious as to whether his input on roster moves is one of the hang ups that is leaving the Cavs without a GM/President?
Who cares about three years down the road? Win now. It’s that insane “wait for next year” that led us from 1964 to 2016. LeBron at this stage of his career wants to play with veterans he trusts instead of some rookie that he knows nothing about. Enjoy the run. Enjoy the championship, the flag raising and the ring/s while you can. In three years we’ll be back to cheering on the likes of Christian Eyenga again.
William was having a good year in Dallas up until he went to the Cavs. He just didn’t fit in there I don’t think. People clowning on his clearly didn’t pay attention to what he did before went to Cleveland. Calderon to me doesn’t really seem like he has much left. I think the Cavs are done, teams around them have money to spend, are getting younger and have a lot of talent. Cavs will still be great next year but I don’t see them ever winning another Championship with this roster. Sadly they need another super star which is crazy to think when you look at who they already have. This is why I think Lebron will leave when his contract is up. He will probably either go back to the Heat or maybe even the Rockets with Chris Paul.
I can see LeBron and Chris Paul and Paul George teaming up on the Lakers next year.
I honestly can see George Paul and Lebron but the only reason I think Chris Paul wouldn’t be a fit is because of Ball and if it came down to picking one I’d take the younger player in Ball.
The CP3-Harden experiment would have to go horribly wrong for CP3 to leave after a year. He supposedly wanted to sign there, but the Rockets would’ve had to jump through hoops to sign him to a deal. The trade made it easier for the Rockets as they were able to trade most of the assets they would have to sign Paul in one deal as opposed to multiple deals.
No they need a system. Spurs had a old roster and they were able to go the finals and beat the miami heat. Iso basketball doesn’t work .. only in crunch time situations. Lebron and irving hate motion offenses and offenses where they dont touch the ball. The pistons back in 04-05 were old and they were dominating younger talented teams. Although it’s a different league, spurs are capable of competing with and beating the warriors because of the system they have in place.
Trey Burke would’ve been an equally cheap, younger, and better signing
Trey Burke is not an NBA player.
Well he couldn’t shoot last season and that’s all he would be good for at this point so I doubt he has much left in the tank to help against GSW.
Next year 2017-18 I see D. Wade, C. Bosh coming off the bench and giving the CAVs an upset over GSW. Time and unforeseen events happen to all great teams. When u see the CAVs winning without LeBron on the floor. They will be ready too take a second title! After the Western Conference get to beating GSW. Cleveland will be ready for them. Did u notice KD was out for 6-8 weeks before the playoffs . He was completely recharged for the playoffs and if the CAVS bench performance likely could went too 7.
