The Knicks have been in touch with free agent point guard Rajon Rondo, according to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders (Twitter link). However, the two sides haven’t set up a meeting at this point, per Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog (Twitter link).
While a report on July 1 indicated that New York had reached out to Rondo’s camp, Marc Berman of The New York Post suggests that the club didn’t formally make contact until today (Twitter link). Ian Begley of ESPN.com, who initially reported the team’s contact with Rondo on Saturday, reiterates that account, though he acknowledges that “no substantive conversation” happened over the weekend.
Regardless of when the Knicks first touched base with Rondo and his reps, it’s clear that the team continues to explore all its options as it contemplates adding a veteran guard to the roster. Here’s more on that search:
- Some people who have been in contact with the Knicks recently got the impression that the team’s interest in Rondo isn’t particularly strong, per Begley.
- The Knicks have heard from the Celtics, who are open to trading Marcus Smart, but it’s not clear whether or not New York is interested in Smart, writes Begley.
- Derrick Rose and Shelvin Mack remain on the Knicks’ radar, according to Begley, who hears that the team is on the lookout for a mentor for rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina.
I wonder if Smart becomes part of a gigantic deal for Porzingis. It seems incredibly unlikely but if they offered, Smart, Crowder, the Nets pick, the rights to Yabusele, rights to Ojeyle (big guy they just drafted in the second round, not signed yet), and the Clippers first rounder, I think whoever the heck is in charge of NY would have to think long and hard about that.
With you on this Connor. And they could even offer more and it would be ok. Because the Celtics are in a unique position to overpay in order to win now, while still retaining an elite young core for several more years. They could even throw in the protected Lakers pick too, and still I think celtics fans would be elated to have this core rotation:
Isiah Thomas, Terry Rozier
Avery Bradley, Jaylen Brown
Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum
Al Horford, Semi Ojeleye
Kristaps Porzingis, Ante Zizic
Strike Ojeleye as he goes in the trade
You guys are making trade proposals for bigtime players where “Ojeleye” is a relevant component of the trade. Think about this…
No he’s basically a throw in. But he can be a solid rotation big. Also his biceps are the size of my head so I’d love to have him on my team just to sit on the end of the bench and scare people lol
I think IT should be traded. I love the guy but his size hurts him defensively. Teams will exploit that in a 5 or 7 game series. He shouldn’t be the primary scorer on the team. He should be the Celtics third option. Unfortunately for him, third options don’t get max deals and I’m pretty sure IT wants a max contract. It’s in this mindset that I think he should be dealt.
Danny Ainge is not letting go of that nets pick.
The Knicks will not trade Portzingas….
I hope! Being a Knick fan is like having a root Canal without novacaine.
No reasonable team would, but the Knicks aren’t in that category so, to quote KG, “Anything is possibllllllllllllllllllle!!!!!!!!”
I would take that trade in a heart beat
As which team?
^^^How could you not take the above trade?
The knicks aren’t winning ANYTHING the way their current roster is constructed. Not even with their own picks are they going to be competitive.
i agree, this would be a good trade for the Knicks, KP is a good player but he gets hurt to much and this year im sure he will get hurt again. the players they get from the celtics, they can trade if they want at trade deadline for more picks..tank tank tank….i would also do a Melo for Love trade cause to me Love is a better player and the best part he doesnt have a no trade clause, so at trade deadline you can trade him for picks and expiring contracts…TANK TANK TANK..now is the time for knicks to go the 76ers way and get picks and young player….
Both teams. Knicks aren’t going to win for at 5 years. If they got Smart, Crowder and 3 really good picks in the next two drafts then they may make themselves very attractive very quickly. And have all the young favorable contracts. And Boston can send LBJ into the sunset and make their own run with their own super team. You’re right! They are in a very unique position
If we have 16mill in cap, you mean we can’t absorb Bradley and Crowder with their annual salaries if 5 & 8 mil (estimate ) ? Boston just wants cap room, GO GET THOSE PIECES! and cut or trade the other crap we have on the bench.
