James Harden, who recently signed a four-year extension with the Rockets, wants to remain with the franchise for the rest of his career, as Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com relays.
“I know where home is,” said Harden. “I know where I want to be. I know where I want to retire ultimately and where I want to win a championship. Everything is going to happen here in Houston, and that’s the reason I’m here forever.”
Harden had two seasons left on his current deal before he committed to the four additional years with the team. GM Daryl Morey said inking the 5-time All-Star for the maximum salary over the maximum amount of years was an “easy” decision for the franchise.
“We would do more if we could,” Morey said. “This is the most they allow us to do. You work your whole career if you’re myself to get a player of James’ caliber and now Chris [Paul‘s] caliber. We’re excited. … We would have done longer and more money if we could.”
Here’s more from Houston:
- Morey added that Harden is constantly consulted on personnel moves, MacMahon passes along in the same. “My job every day is to try to put the players around him to win a championship,” Morey said. “That’s our only goal here. I know that’s James’ only goal. His ability to recruit other players like Chris Paul, like all the players around the team, is the modern way that I think teams are going to be built.”
- Harden believes adding Carmelo Anthony would help the Rockets, but he’s content with the roster as it currently stands John Weinfuss of ESPN.com passes along. Talks between the Rockets and Knicks on an Anthony deal have stalled, but the small forward reportedly expects to be dealt to the franchise.
- Paul is excited for the opportunity to play alongside Harden even though it may mean sacrificing ball-handling duties, MacMahon adds in a separate piece. “That’s the coach’s problem over here, to figure that out. I think coach said it: When you want to win, you’ll do whatever it takes. I know James has that; I know I do. Whoever is in our locker room from day one, we’re going to talk about sacrificing and doing whatever you have to do to help us win,” Paul said.
Carmelo would be a. Horrible move
Carmelo would be a horrible move
How? He’d be a fantastic catch and shoot, pick and pop, and post isolation scorer for the Rockets. Watch his Fiba highlights and you’ll see how well he’d be in the Rockets system
Exactly. Just some Carmelo hater.
I think people are used to seeing the Melo in NY who never really had a great supporting cast and had to do more than he should of. When he’s not the go to guy or the only guy he’s actually a good passer for a 3 and he can knock down shots.
Whoever thinks this is not a good move doesn’t know basketball! It’s very simple we need a roster that can score 120 ASAP! Carmelo will be a very consistent 25ppg with this group. I know CP3 loves Ariza, but I’d take Lou Williams back for him in a heartbeat.
Remember 120 ASAP.
Does scoring 120 mean as much if you give up 125??
Look. I see your point. I’d love to think we could lock our opponents down to 114. Which would give us the worst defense in the league. (Probably )
But we’d have 82 games to figure that out. Before we reached a threat in the playoffs.
If only Gordon Hayward thought this way.
sincerely,
Utah fan
Dear all Melo haters, double birds to y’all. Dude catches so much hate for so little reason. I want to see Melo win!
Not a hater just a fact Carmelo had a chance to leave New York. He chose to stay for money not a chance at a ring
He also stayed in New York because he loves the city and he wanted to build the Knicks into a perennial playoff team again. He wanted to help build a winning team instead of join one which should be respected. However, the management in New York has been atrocious and thus he now realizes that he can’t help the Knicks anymore
People also forget that these athletes have personal life’s too. Melo’s wife loves New York and that played a huge role in his resigning there. I’d love to see him play for the rockets because I think he would be absolutely devastating as a third scoring option for them.
205 supermax is why he is in Houston forever, don’t play
If Houston gets melo they they might make it to the semis or even the finals
