The Celtics are unhappy that the Cavaliers are asking for more compensation in the Kyrie Irving trade and may be planning a hard-line response, tweets Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe. The Celtics front office believes it was fully honest about the condition of Isaiah Thomas when the teams discussed his injured hip prior to completing the deal. The Cavaliers seem to think that Thomas is months away from returning to action, according to Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune (Twitter link), who also speculates that Boston could offer to include Terry Rozier to get the trade completed. There’s more from the Atlantic Division:
- A pair of Sixers players are vowing to be ready when training camp opens next month. Markelle Fultz, the top pick in the draft, told Jessica Camerato of CSNPhilly that he is optimistic after suffering a lateral sprain to his left ankle during the Las Vegas Summer League (Twitter link). Robert Covington, who was shut down for the season in late March with a slight tear of his lateral meniscus, also expects to be fully healed by camp (Twitter link).
- Rookie point guard Milton Doyle is confident that he can earn a roster spot in Brooklyn, according to a story on NetsDaily. A first team all-Missouri Valley Conference player last season at Loyola, Chicago, Doyle signed a training camp deal with the Nets in early August. He caught the eyes of team officials by averaging 10.5 points per game during summer league play, but he may be ticketed for the G League.
- Phil Jackson’s reign as president of the Knicks didn’t turn out the way he hoped, but New York Liberty president Isiah Thomas doesn’t think Jackson harmed his legacy, relays Marc Berman of The New York Post. “Believe me, Phil, myself, Donnie Walsh, Larry Brown, Lenny [Wilkins], all of us go back and try to figure out, man what did we do wrong?,’’ Thomas said. “If we can do it all over again, what would we do different? That’s the thing we love in New York. It brings out the best in you as a person because you really get pushed to the wall in terms of trying to figure out how to win and put it together and satisfy the fan base. That’s why we all want to crack that egg.” Thomas also praised Carmelo Anthony for the way he handled a string of negative comments from Jackson.
The C’s should stand its ground and say if you want more then a 2nd is all you get they only thing that could happen is the trade gets nullified and the players need to understand it’s a business they do it just as much as teams do it so just get over it and play then leave when you’re free to
Terry Rozier?!? Are you kidding me?!? I think the young Cavs GM is surprised he got so much in the deal so he’s getting greedy and trying to get even more from C’s. Heck LeBron and the Cavs tank the first half of the year anyway so why do they care if IT is delayed. I hope Ainge & Wyc say no and call their bluff because they can’t get a haul like they got any place else.
Check out the guy’s job. He’s the beat reporter for the Jazz. Sounds like someone is still REALLY upset about the Heyward signing. LOL!!
Yeah, if I’m the Celtics, the absolute MOST I am willing to give up is their own 1st rounder or maybe 2 future 2nd rounders…But that is absolutely it, and that is ONLY if they decide they are willing to give up anything at all…
If the Cavs want more, then, if I was Boston, I’d simply tell them to try and find a better deal elsewhere….Because, deep down, the Cavs GM has to realize he can’t get more from anyone else….Whether he is a naive rookie or not; regardless, he knows he got his money’s worth with this trade…Heck, he might have even got more than what Kyrie is truly worth. This is especially the case if you look at what the Pacers, Bulls, and Kings got for each of their respective All-Stars…
These “fans” that are saying to take out I. Thomas and replace him with Tatum, Smart, or Brown are just crazy!! Even more idiotic, I actually read one “fan” saying that Boston should replace I.T. with BOTH Tatum AND Brown!?! Are you kidding me!?! lol hahaha…What a joke!!
That’s like saying Boston is just going to go ahead and hand over their Lakers pick just to go ahead and get the deal done…There is less than a 0 % chance that actually happens…Also, there isn’t much more of a chance that Boston adds Rozier, it just doesn’t make sense from Boston’s perspective…
C’mon people let’s get real here…The Cavs are not going to get a whole bunch extra from Boston by pulling this bush league b.s.. I mean it may work out for the Cavs, and they just may come away with an extra 2nd rounder or two, but yeah, that’s about all Cleveland can even hope for from Boston…Like I said previously, the most the Cavs may get is Boston’s own 1st rounder, but even that is highly unlikely…!!
So you think it’s fair to essentially trade a PG who probably won’t play, Crowder, Zizik, and the Brooklyn pick (which isn’t a guarantee for a top prospect) for a 4-time all-star? To me this trade is essentially Irving for Crowder. I like Crowder, but not enough to ship Irving to Boston. If Boston doesn’t want to include Tatum and/or Brown they should send Rozier with one of their million first round picks they have stashed at the garden.
I agree. Kyrie is a huge talent. We’ve taken him for granted for the same reason he wants out of CLE. (LBJ’s shadow) TECHNICALLY Brooklyn ‘a first round pick may be not be as attractive to say, an arbitrator??? Hmmmm… Zizic? We know almost Zero. Crowded? Sure, he’s a good ball player. IT? Injured and 1 year left. He’s a stop-gap to satisfy LBJ and fan base.
It should be 2 first rounders, IT, Crowder, Zizic in exchange for Kyrie Irving and CLE 2020 2nd RDer
Yea. But it’s not. And the whole question here is if the Celtics withheld medical information. Considering the whole world knows about the injury you can’t say info was withheld. And saying “we know zero” about Zizic isn’t the same as him not having value. He was a 1st round pick who has potential to be a great rotational player this year.
The Cavs can have another 2nd round pick or go pound sand.
Did the physical show that IT couldn’t play this season? Or just what Boston had stated all along, that he most likely won’t be ready for the START of the season.
For the Cavs- it’s a tough call. As much as they want the talent to help them get back to the Finals this year, they also want that very high draft pick if or more likely when Lebron leaves after this season. Porter or Bagley would be a good start on a rebuild – OR could be huge trade bait to bring in another star in order to keep Lebron in Cleveland.
IT is worthless at this point. Give up a second rounder and get this done.
Before Ainge does anything he will have specialists review the results of IT’s physical that Cleveland conducted. IF the results align with what Boston already provided prior to the trade then Ainge tells Cleveland to pound sand and let’s the NBA investigate. But, if Cleveland found something new/different than Boston medicals then expect the C’s to anti-up an appropriate pick or player.
I think we can all agree it won’t be a player if anything it’s a 2nd rounder or maybe if there lucky a one of the C’s own picks witch will be at the bottom of the first
Agreed. Makes sense.
Null the trade and let Cleveland get less from someone else than they did from Boston! I mean who else besides Boston has the nets first round pick?
Well, I think there’s only 1 “nets” pick so….
