Details of the Timberwolves’ reported offer for Kyrie Irving aren’t known, but Andrew Wiggins isn’t part of Minnesota’s proposal, according to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News (Twitter link). Wolfson adds that for the Wolves to have a real shot at acquiring Irving, their offer would need to include Wiggins “and more.”
The No. 1 overall pick in 2014, Wiggins was initially drafted by the Cavaliers before being sent to Minnesota for Kevin Love, and Sam Amico of Amico Hoops hears that the fourth-year forward wouldn’t be opposed to a return to Cleveland.
However, according to Wolfson (Twitter link), the Cavs would want “something of substance” in addition to Wiggins if they were to send Irving to the Wolves. A deal between the two sides isn’t at all close, and given Minnesota’s reluctance to offer Wiggins – let alone additional pieces – it looks like a long shot at this point.
Assuming Wiggins remains in Minnesota, as expected, there’s a good chance he and the Wolves end up working out a contract extension this offseason. Owner Glen Taylor confirmed over the weekend that the team is discussing a five-year max deal with its young forward, and Wolfson has another update today from Taylor.
According to the Wolves’ owner (Twitter link), Minnesota has formally put an extension offer on the table for Wiggins, whose agent is due to be in town later this month. In the case of a five-year, maximum salary deal, not a lot of negotiating is required, so it sounds as if the two sides have a chance to get something done within the next few weeks.
He isn’t worth the max that’s for sure. Let him ride out and the season and let the market develop for him.
would you say otto porter is worth the max? if he’s getting the max just do it now and keep him happy
Wiggins is one of the worst defenders in the game. Next year, only 3 teams will have salary cap. Let it ride out. I prefer Irving over Wiggins any day.
And you think Kyrie is so great at defense too? By RPM, Kyrie was 28th among Point Guards in it due to how bad his defense was. Not saying Wiggins is any better defensively, but I’ll take his potential in that area any day.
I can’t believe how many people have been sheepishly reporting Wiggins can’t play D. Stop looking at the numbers only! He has gaurded the other teams best parmiter player since day one. They a players that can score on anyone so if he holds harden to only 20 points rather then the 35 he would get on anyone else then the numbers may say it’s not a good game but the eye test is different. He does need to work on his rotation in help D but this is from the fact he takes that time to rest ( not that I think he should be, I would rather he rested on O when he doesn’t have the ball) but I can’t blame him. He plays a lot of minutes and is needed to score.
Makes no sense to give him a max extension now. Wait and match any offer he receives next year because he might not receive a max offer. Otto happened to receive a max offer from Brooklyn and the Wizards matched it
Kyrie is going to look good in purple and orange
What’s the point of getting Kyrie when you have Ball as a pass-first PG? Not only that–Kyrie and LeBron hate each other at this point. They will never play together again, under any circumstances.
Purple and Orange not Purple and Gold. LMAO!!!
Porter is better !!!
I would let the market play out on Wiggins too. A max for him would be for 29.6 million a year, which is far too much for him and too much for a team’s third best player. Wolves will want to max out Towns next year and will have to pay Butler in 2 years to keep him in Sota. It will be crucial to keep cap flexibility around those two in order to continue adding pieces.
you can cancel kyrie to Minnesota
Kyrie Irving > Kevin Love. Thus Wiggins, a 1st round pick, and a solid role player (thad young type) would be the ask.
Wait till 12/15, trade Wiggins + Teague for Irving + shumpert
Depending on how they start out the season, may not want to trade either.
I know Wiggins has to be tired of getting trade because of LeBron. Minnesota doesn’t need Kyrie anyway. They have enough scorer.
Right… And Minnesota keeps knocking at that door year after year. And one of these decades, they’ll get in the playoffs.
I keep telling you people, 4 quarters don’t equal a dollar. And Kyrie puts people in seats. Wiggins wishes he could put people in seats.
I agree, this all smoke. Come 12/15, it will be at least Wiggins and Teague, for Kyrie.
Cavs would take that trade and run with it. The Wolves would be stupid to do that.
Towns/Butler/Wiggins/League is better than Towns/Bulter + Irving
They should keep the 4 (Towns, Wig, Butler and League) together. League is more what they need (ball-distribution and solid 3 point shooting) than a high usage guard. They don’t to have 2 ball-dominant guards and a C like Towns. Teague offers balance.
Wiggins and Teabue don’t put people in seats. Kyrie does. You also have to look at it from the owners perspective. If I’m going to have to pay someone like Wiggins 150 Million, he BETTER put people in the seats. And he doesn’t.
is
Well then I guess the Wolves aren’t getting Kyrie
I think Wiggins and a smallish piece for Wiggins etc it’s a small sacrifice
I’d say wait it out.. playing with Butler and Teague should help with defense problems for he’s not a shut down defender.. if he falters and proves he’s not worth a Max, then trade him at the deadline.. personally I think Irving will start off the season in Cleveland so maybe flip him then.
