Having turned down Jahlil Okafor‘s request for a buyout, the Sixers remain focused on finding a trade involving the third-year big man, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
According to Wojnarowski, Sixers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo is determined to land some sort of “asset” in an Okafor deal. However, a trade may ultimately revolve around future second-round picks in exchange for Okafor, league sources tell Wojnarowski.
It has been a busy week on the Okafor front. We heard last Friday that the 76ers are working Okafor’s camp to try to find a workable trade, but the club wasn’t able to find a deal before the rookie scale option deadline on Tuesday. Philadelphia declined Okafor’s option for 2018/19, which prompted him to ask for a buyout, as he confirmed on Wednesday. The former third overall pick further expressed his frustration with his current situation in a conversation with reporters.
The Celtics have been mentioned as a possible destination for Okafor, but a few other teams have displayed interest in the 21-year-old as a “reclamation project,” per Wojnarowski. Woj’s report suggests that an Eric Bledsoe trade may help create the “moving parts around the league” necessary to pave the way for an Okafor deal. While it’s not clear if the Suns have interest in Okafor, Woj does note that they’re monitoring the situation in Philadelphia.
To me an Okafor for Bledsoe deal would make a lot of sense.
The problem is some people in Philly think that Simmons is the ‘Second’ Coming! So unless Philly makes some concessions Okafor is going to sit on the Philly bench for awhile
Alot of people outside of Philly feel the same way about Simmons. And we also have Fultz,McConnell, and Bayless to play the point. We’re pretty good at the 2 as well. Bledsoe might be in the same situation here that Okafor is, but would cost an extra 10mil this year, and another 30 the next 2. And I think with as good as Simmons has looked, plus as good as Embiid has looked, that 30 mil in the future would be better used on a impact free agent. Or atleast on somebody who wouldn’t cut into our future spending flexibility.
The real problem with Okafor is it took 2 years and everybody questioning his commitment for his to get himself into good playing shape.former top picks don’t lose their value for nothing.the 6ers logjam at center played a role, sure, but that didn’t hurt the 2nd round pick from the same draft as Okafor.Holmes played his way into Okafors minutes. The only problem with the situation is Okafors, because unless the 6ers need that roster spot or get something in return, they have no need to do anything.
Bulls in a Bobby Portis deal
Collangelo needs to go!
He got nothing for Noel and now will get nothing for Okafor.
What was he going to get for Noel? He’s a defense first big who can’t shoot and is now riding pine in Dallas. I was in favor of keeping Noel over Jah, but both bigs have limited value. Jah can’t play defense or space the floor, and Noel offers zero offense. What kind of return are you expecting? If anything, BCo deserves some credit for not messing up the foundation he inherited from Hinkie. His track record was uninspiring in Phoenix and Toronto, I say he has done a decent job furthering the process
Do some homework
He inherited those 2 duds from Scam Stinkie. It is addition by subtraction.
As a Mavs fan, Noel sucks
No thank you!!!!!
I would take Nikola Mirotić!!!!
