The Clippers will continue to pursue trades for DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams following their blockbuster deal with the Pistons, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets. The Clippers shipped power forward Blake Griffin to the Pistons in a stunning move on Monday involving five other players and draft picks.
The Clippers are seeking young players and draft picks for Jordan and Williams, according to Wojnarowski. However, the team will also continue to discuss contract extensions with those players if the price is right, Wojnarowski continues.
Despite trading Griffin, the team doesn’t want to tank and go into full rebuild mode, Wojnarowski adds. Their objectives are to stay competitive, as they demonstrated by obtaining two starters for Griffin; acquiring more young players and draft picks; and creating payroll flexibility (Twitter links).
Jordan, who reportedly hasn’t come close to an extension agreement, has a player option on the final year of his contract next season worth $24.2MM. He’s averaging 11.9 PPG and 14.8 RPG this season. Williams has an expiring $7MM contract. He’s enjoying a career year, averaging 23.5 PPG and 5.2 APG. As of a week ago, Williams hadn’t made any progress regarding an extension.
The Cavs are reportedly one of the teams interested in both players.
BUCKS MOOOOVE
No way man. We have Parker coming back Friday. There’s no more tolerance, let alone room for injured millionaires on the roster.
Jordan is over rated
Agree. He’s this generation’s Ben Wallace. He’s only good in that particular situation. Take him out, and watch him get massively exposed.
Just keep that Nets pick!
There is no way Jordan and Williams/or Bradley for the bklyn pick and filler doesn’t happen. It makes too much sense for both teams. Cleveland gets a defensive anchor and a huge upgrade at center in Jordan. Taking in Jordan would limit some lineup flexibility but it would also let Love cover the 4 position, which he is better fit for. As for Bradley, he would provide the defensive ball stopper the Cavs crucially need. Although Bradley is limited and cant guard bigger defenders , he is easily the Cavs best perimeter defender aside Lebron. Williams could provide the scoring punch that Isaiah is lacking as he recovers. If the Cavs dont want to bank on Thomas getting healthy then Williams would slide in perfectly for that role. Thomas is then expendable as a trade piece for a wing defender or draft capital. As for the Clippers they get a rarity in the NBA an unprotected lottery pick which could be vital for their rebuild. I assume players like Tristan Thompson or man shumpert would come back also serviceable rotation players with decent contracts. The only thing stopping this deal is Lebron not committing to the Cavs long term. Kobi Altman has shown great reluctance to part with this pick but this could elevate them to a team that would challenge the Warriors and most definitely beat the Celtics. Go all in for one last season with the best player in the NBA
25 words or less, not a short story…
don’t read it then
I’d argue that the cabs might explode trading IT, if. The clippers are interested. Helps them stay competitive, and he and Lebron haven’t worked too well together.
I agree here. He is certainly not untouchable
I’d be looking to part with TT, Shumpert, IT and Rose. Throw in a pick or two and ask for DAJ, Williams AND Bradley (if he’s able to be traded)
That wouldn’t pass in my fantasy league – why would anyone want that trash from Cleveland?
He is being a troll don’t mind him.
DJ and Bradley for the Nets pick and fillers makes some sense for the Cavs. Can’t see them doing it though unless TT is involved and the Clippers have been very reluctant to take him back in a deal. While moving all three of Frye/Shump/JR instead might not be a bad “consolation prize” I think any DJ to the Cavs trade has to include TT for the deal to get any traction from the Cavs side.
So the two guys you mentioned are 26.7M combined. Mind you, the Clips would have to want to take them on and tossing them a Brooklyn pick that is getting worse and worse looking does not sweeten it as much as you think.
To complicate it, the players you are suggesting they land, cost 38.4M roughly. So the numbers don’t work. Subtracting one out, doesn’t work. They would invariably have to add another player. And who would they add? Wade? Calderon? Green? You’re adding people that teams don’t want.
So on top of numbers not working, it doesn’t make sense. Brooklyn has no reason to not try late in the season as the pickmisnt theirs and they already have only a 6% chance at number 1. If the Cavs are going to add players, like Jordan, they are giving up more than Tristan Thompson and Iman Shumpert.
C’s get Williams for Smart it’s a ironic last name for the dumbest player
Bradley can’t be traded…
Love for okc to get Williams but unless lac wants Kyle singler and his man bun we don’t have much to offer. (Although let’s be honest they’re dumping all of this salary to make a run at PG13 in the off-season among other stars too.)
How about turd ferg, Patterson, and a second rounder for Lou? That’s literally the best they could likely come up with….
I think the Cavs will get both guys. They should get on it ASAP.
Remember when DJ agreed to sign with the Mavs and Blake, Pierce, JJ Redick, and Chris Paul held him hostage? Now DJ is the only one left from that group…
I would rather have Jaren Jackson Jr than DJordan. JJJ is going to block a mess of shots in the NBA and Jordan averages about 1 pg. The pick is better
Now, assuming health, the Clippers actually have a good bit of solid depth moving forward.
PG’s: Austin Rivers, Patrick Beverly, Milos Teodosic
SG: Lou Williams, Avery Bradley, CJ Williams, Wesley Johnson
3’s/4’s: Tobias Harris, Danilo Gallinari, Sam Dekker, Montrezl Harrell
Bigs: DeAndre Jordan, Boba Marjonovic
I would go ahead and trade Lou Williams and DeAndre Jordan, and get the best possible mix of young players and draft picks. Then, continue building through next year’s draft, which is absolutely full of talent. I would even try to trade up to get one of the elite talents in the draft, ie. Colin Sexton.
Also, I would keep Bradley to rotate with Beverly next year to create a solid rotation of excellent backcourt defenders. Then, add a more versatile big in free agency, and they’d end up becoming a fiesty, versatile, competitive, and a hard-nosed team.
They would actually become a team that would be easy to root for..Which, the past few years, the Clippers just kind of seemed obnoxious…Although, alot of that was Chris Paul to be honest..Now, I cannot stand the Rockets..since I already didn’t like the no defense, constantly arguing about getting fiuled, and floppy James Harden…
The Rockets are 11th in the league in defensive rating and Gallo embellishes contact just as much as Harden.
Pelicans should get lou
