As losses continue to pile up for the Kings, Willie Cauley-Stein suggests that Dave Joerger run the team like a college coach, relays Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee. The Kings are now 1-7 in their last eight games with a roster that features 10 players with three or fewer seasons of NBA experience.
“If you’re not doing your job right, next man up, you get your turn next time it comes around,” Cauley-Stein said. “I think it’s got to happen like that, even for myself.”
The Kings have fallen to last in the West and are third in our latest Reverse Standings.
There’s more tonight out of Sacramento:
- The team is being careful with first-round pick Harry Giles, who has yet to play this season because of physical concerns, Jones notes in a mailbag column. Giles hasn’t practiced much in front of the media, but team sources say he has shown impressive athleticism and shooting range in controlled settings. He is also a fast learner who has picked up the game through film sessions. Jones reports that Giles’ knees are in good shape and the Kings are focused on building up his strength to start playing.
- The Kings’ only shot at picking up a first-round pick before the trade deadline is if a contender wants to take a chance on George Hill, Jones adds in the same piece. Hill is making $20MM this season, so matching salaries would be an issue, especially since Sacramento already has a full roster. Jones thinks the Kings might make a stronger effort to acquire a first-rounder next year, when their pick will be sent to the Sixers or Celtics.
- Bogdan Bogdanovic isn’t a typical rookie, and the Kings aren’t treating him like one, Jones writes in a separate story. The Serbian shooting guard is 25 and has years of international experience, making him one of the leaders on a young team. The former draft-and-stash prospect agreed to a three-year, $27MM deal last summer. “He’s not a rookie,” Hill said. “To you guys he is, but to us, he’s a seasoned vet. He’s been battle tested and been playing high-level basketball his whole life now. He just knows how to play the game the right way. We feed off that. He plays with that edge, that grit, he just wants to win.”
I’m really looking forward too seeing Giles get on the floor and see what he can do. As much as I like Z-Bo he’s just not a great fit with the Kings youngsters and be better off with a playoff contender, sadly feel the same with Hill, just wanna see the young guys playing hard together and keep working on trying too gel and take this year as a learning year get NBA experience and already seeing progress and hope too see much larger progress after the off season and in training camp and hope for a great start too the 18′-19′ season and be able to try and snag a high lottery pick for the 18′-19′ season. I know everyone wants to win now, but the Kings just hit the reset button this last summer, it’s going too take a little time but things are getting done right from ground up and won’t really see (fingers crossed) true progress for another couple years. People forget the Lakers hit the reset button couple years ago and are still not that great and just hoping as “Lakers” to land big name players but are still not doing that great, so as for us Kings fans just need to be patient a little longer, and should be happy with the potentional talent that we have and just need time too work things out as a team. Love too see Jakar Sampson as a back up big man, athletic, shooting is getting better, runs, rebounds, him getting O rebounds and kicking it back out for a buddy bomb does sound nice.
I’d like to see FOX get more time going forward.
Think they need to let him loose and see how he evolves for the rest of the season
Fox,Giles, and Hield should be the only untouchables on the Kings roster. Bogdanovic is decent but I don’t see a star.
Bog is really good, look up his highlights in the Euro league. Once coach let’s him play his natural position he will flourish and be one of the best players on the Kings.
Joerger has had him in and out of the starting lineup and he flops everytime he starts, no breakout games nothint. He is a role player nothing special, he is good off the bench, Hield is the starting shooting guard. Joerger needs to get fired, dude has no idea what he is doing with the rotations.
I take it you didn’t watch the game tonight and see Bogi kicking butt?
About time, that is what I was expecting the way Divac was hyping him up before him coming over. Watch him go 9 points 5 assists the next game.
