8:04pm: The deal is official, according to a Nets press release.
5:45pm: The Bucks will acquire center Tyler Zeller from the Nets in exchange for shooting guard Rashad Vaughn and a second-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter links).
The Bucks will forward their second-round pick to Brooklyn in this summer’s draft if it falls between 31 and 47 overall, Wojnarowski adds in a separate tweet. Otherwise, the Suns will receive it as part of the Eric Bledsoe deal. Brooklyn was mainly interested in adding the draft pick, Wojnarowski adds (Twitter link).
Milwaukee will be Zeller’s fourth team. He played the last three seasons with the Celtics before signing a low-cost, two-year deal with Brooklyn. His $1.93MM contract for next season isn’t guaranteed. Zeller, 28, started 33 of 42 games with the Nets this season, averaging 7.1 PPG and 4.6 RPG in 16.7 MPG.
The 7-footer provides another big body in the middle. The Bucks have utilized John Henson and Thon Maker at center for the most part and also have Marshall Plumlee in reserve.
Vaughn, who has played all three of his seasons with the Bucks, has seen spot duty this season. He’s appeared in 22 games, averaging 2.7 PPG and 7.9 MPG. Vaughn, who is still just 21 years old, was the 17th overall pick of the 2015 draft. He’s making $1.9MM this season and becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer.
didn’t give up anything so why not if he can rebound he would be useful
Nice. The big body we need
Ha ha ha… Tyler Zeller sucked for 3 seasons in Boston! Who knows maybe he’ll be a star in Milwaukee?
Sometimes … all a player needs is a change of scenery
Tyler Zeller was a significant piece for Boston his first season there. He got squeezed out of the rotation the next two years despite Boston’s constant hole at PF/C. There’s a lot worse bigs out there who get more minutes/are paid a lot more. As a backup rotational big, teams could definitely do worse.
This. People don’t know this but he actually led the team in Win Shares in the 2014-2015 season. Zeller was a fine piece for a little while.
This could potentially be one of the underrated moves at this year’s deadline. No additional money or years, and only give up a 2nd with a player who was out of your rotation. Nice move for the Bucks.
I’m waiting on Dionis to break this trade down.
Lol…seriously
Where is he?
Maybe he got banned…
still think BUCKS might make a move to improve the bench by trade or FA after the trade deadline and they should buy out Mriza Teletovic contract it has been a disaster still think Andrew Bogut is a possibility
I wouldn’t think Bogut is an option after this deal.
Bogut is redundant at this point. But a bench scorer like Lou Williams would fit a need with both Brogdon and Delly currently out while bolstering their offensive output off the bench.
No way the Bucks are trading a future 1st to get a Lou Williams-at-peak-value rental.
That’s an Ernie Grunfeld move.
Not saying I would offer up a future 1st but I would offer up DJ Wilson or a couple 2nds if the Clippers drop their asking price.
Nets clear the way for Allen and Okafor to share the 5 spot, and pick a 2nd. Not bad really. Plus, add to their stash of disappointing 2015 draftees. Bucks, not sure. Is he really an an upgrade from Henson or Maker?
it’s not an upgrade from Maker or Henson.
but it’s a 3rd option, which they didn’t have, in case of injury.
I like it. Cheap NBA player who can competently play some backup C minutes when called upon.
Fair enough, they gave up nothing really. Just think with all the bigs on the market, they could have upgraded.
