Despite rumors to the contrary, Terry Pluto of the The Plain Dealer hears that the Cavaliers have indeed entertained the idea or trading the Nets‘ 2018 first-round pick (currently 8th in our 2017/18 NBA Reverse Standings), but only for the right return.
Pluto reports that the Cavs will only trade the all-but-assured lottery selection in exchange for a younger player who is under contract for a couple of seasons. A short-term answer who can become a free agent this summer, like Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, will not entice the team to surrender Brooklyn’s pick.
On the other hand, an expiring contract like Jordan’s would make sense in exchange for the Cavs’ own 2018 first-rounder opines Pluto, who suggests a deal that would send Iman Shumpert, Channing Frye, and their own first-round pick to Los Angeles in exchange for Jordan would work within the salary cap. Whether the Cavs or Clippers would be interested in such a deal remains to be seen.
As for the Brooklyn pick, a previously mentioned trade candidates from a rebuilding team who is relatively young, under contract through this offseason, and has already been linked to the Cavs is Hawks swingman Kent Bazemore. However, it’s hard to believe the Cavs giving up a potential lottery pick for Bazemore at this point.
With KLove out for 2 months, I’m not willing to give up Channing Frye. Shump, JR, TT yes.
Exactly!!!
Cleveland will go back to being irrelevant when Lebron leaves this summer.
Yep
nets pick and IT for damian lilard
nice!!
First of all, salaries don’t match. Secondly, it’d be Nets pick and IT for an emphatic hell no. Like why not throw in McCollum for TT while you’re at it
McCollum wouldn’t be enough … cmon now man … they’d have to add in Nurkic and their first too
Throw in Dan Gilbert for Paul Allen and you can have the Blazers first from 2020 too
If you think POR would give up their all star backcourt for the crap that CLE is willing to deal you’re as delusional as a CLE fan gets
Why does everyone talk about Channing Frye and Iman Shumpert like they are actual good assets? Why would the Clippers want them, especially when they are paired with only a low 1st round pick?
Shumpert and Frye are commonly mentioned because of their contracts. Cleveland would have to send out close to Deandre’s cap hit in order to make the trade work.
Shumpert’s contract expires after next season and Frye’s expires after this season. So if the Clippers don’t expect Deandre to re-sign (or aren’t interested in re-signing him in the first place), this deal would make some sense for LA. Clear cap space for 2018 and 2019 and pick up a first round pick.
They are both on expiring deals I believe, so that has some appeal to teams looking crap relief but for the most part it’s about making money work on the cavs end and getting something for Jordan before he walks this offseason.
Yeah I get that from the Cavs perspective, but not from the Clippers. They are also possibly going to be in the playoffs as well. And to get nothing more than a first rounder in the low 20s is just a slap in the face to the fans. Shumpert and Frye will do nothing other than keep the bench from floating away during the game.
Trading Blake Griffin is fine because the return was stuff can help in the future AND this season during a playoff run. Who cares if people they will just be destroyed in the 1st round? At least they would have a chance. Teams that miss the playoffs don’t even have that. It’s one thing for a team like the Kings with no chance to be selling off veterans for less than face value, but it is completely different for a team in the playoff hunt to be selling. It’s just a mockery of the sport.
Shumpert has a player option
As the headline says, it’s the lottery-bound Nets pick on the table, not the Cavs pick. That’s why this article exists.
The Clips would be lucky to get that pick for a player who underperforms himself. At least Frye can shoot. Shumpert has been injured, but Williams will probably be leaving.
As this article says, the writer suggests Frye, Shumpert, and THEIR OWN first round pick should go to LA for Jordan. That is why my comment exists.
I see. I skipped the Pluto part.
Only trade for a young superstar
He can fill in for LBJ
Who
Josh Jackson of Phoenix.
Cleveland was willing to trade Love or Kyrie for a package with Jackson last summer. Phoenix said no. They may have changed their mind now.
Shumpert, Zizic, Nets pick for Tyson Chandler and Josh Jackson.
IT and nets pick for damian lillard
You forgot Leold james! HaHa
IT, Nets, Frye, shumpert, for lillard and cj
Also some trade exceptions here and there
You must be a Cavs fan.
Come the end of the year the nets pick will be a top 2 pick anyway so might as well keep it for the offseason or take full advantage of lebron’s uncertainty and acquire the future
It’s my way of saying not worth trading during the season
I’d find a new way of saying that because that’s not what I took from the read.
Maybe smith as well
I swear, people have the wildest trade scenarios….
Thank you to all these stupid NBA writers for making up a Dame trade narrative so that now endless commenters will make stupid trade ideas involving him for no reason. If they trade either of them, it’ll be CJ, and you won’t hear any rumors about it. It’ll come out of nowhere. Neil Olshey is very close with Woj and I bet if anything happens (which it probably won’t!!!), it’ll be a Woj bomb out of nowhere. It’s irresponsible of these writers to fuel stupid trade speculation. Propose a trade that works damn it don’t just say “I think this is the year they trade Dame or CJ” (thanks Marc Stein for being a senior NBA writer and not having ANYTHING better to write about)
The Portland rumors have come from Portland. Because of McCollum’s and Lilliard’s salaries they can’t get frontcourt help. says they may entertain trading Lilliard or McCollum this summer. These “rumors” (remember this is NBA Hoops Rumors) came from the Trailblazers site, not the networks.
I guarantee you they haven’t come from Portland. Neil Olshey is very tight lipped when it comes to trades. The “rumor” that they need to break up those two started when McCollum signed, there’s always going to be speculation when two players are paid that much that play basically the same position. Marc Stein’s predictions piece predicted this and since then they ran away with this storyline because Dame met with Paul Allen. Nobody knows what they talked about at all but that sure hasn’t stopped them from acting like a trade of CJ or Dame is imminent. Go watch ESPN and look at how they’re obsessed with the idea of a Dame trade. Look, when Woj, Neil Olshey, Paul Allen, or Damian Lillard say something, then you’ll know. Writers talking out of their ***es right now.

These are opinions, if you don’t like opinions, don’t read them.
Links go to the same page, which provides nothing. Stein is not a Portland writer. Just another fail.
Basically, they’re not trading the pick. Nobody is giving them that. Cavs were the only team that valued that pick as being that kind of asset.
Dwight and Marvin Williams for Nets Pick, TT, JR, Frye
And Charlottes first goes to Cleveland
So someone gets a few more pingpong balls
I was wrong about LeBron and 5 years. Terry Pluto of Cleveland. com writes about many Cavs topics today. Says LeBron could sign for 5 years and $250 million (I personally don’t see Gilbert doing that).
The article is where this came from. Says Gilbert hasn’t said anything about selling team, but has been buying up 1% shares. Pluto suggests trying to get Tyson Chandler. Says they’ll trade this for young player. Reason Cavs didn’t get Eric Bledsoe is Suns wouldn’t give up Josh Jackson. Gilbert offered Kyrie and Love in separate trades. T.J. Warren is playing well now and Jackson is underperforming. Gilbert likes Jackson, wonder if he’d try again. Phoenix has 2 low 1st picks they could throw in. Gilbert likes Marquis Chriss too.

Boston says they’ll trade Marcus Smart for a 1st pick per CBS.
I liked it when he talked about the ownership shares.
Cavs had a lot of chances to get Bledsoe– he was often on the block in Phx. Very frustrating for LJ. Not sure how long his honeymoon in Milwaukee will last either, since they are underperforming. Since the current PGs may be leaving, a Bledsoe trade could still happen, as Gilbert negotiates with James coming up. It would be a good goodwill gesture, as well as filling a position. Gilbert does like IT though.
Dallas sends Dennis Smith, Seth Curry, and Nerlens Noel for IT and 1st pick or Phoenix sends Chandler Thompson, Josh Jackson, and Marquis Chris and late 1st for Crowder, Calderon, Zizic, Shumpert and 1st.
Oh good lord. NBA2K wouldn’t accept that trade even if you cheated.
I don’t think Dallas will ever give up Dennis Smith, but Nerlens Noel is a thought for Cavs pick or 2nd round pick.
Phoenix is up to Suns owner. Chriss has been a semi-bust. Jackson is underperforming. He wants to unload Chandler. He doesn’t want big contracts. Crowder, Zizic, and Brooklyn pick he’d like.
Well as the linked team to that Nets puck, I’m sure the Hawks would add anything short of Denise Schroder to get that pick. They may even add Schroder and Bazemore in the same package I’d the Cavs are sending that BK pick and IT ( who they’d peddle to another team for a first). Atlanta aldo already owns Cle 2019 (1-10 protected) 1rst round pick. So it would be beneficial to both teams to work something out.
Make that Tyson Candler, Jackson, Marquis Chris, 1 or both late first picks for Crowder, Calderon, Zizic, Shumpert, and Brooklyn 1st.
Crowder, Shumpert, Zizic and a non-Nets pick for Jordan? If you add Lou Williams or Bradley add in Frye and make the pick the Nets pick.
that’s fair.
Anthony Davis is going to Boston!! L old James is retiring!
In the past I have advocated using the Nets pick and Frye/Shumpert for Kent Bazemore. But since the pick now looks lottery, and Bazemore is already 28, and Frye is more important… for whatever it’s worth, I can’t root for that unless Crowder or expiring IT replaces Frye, and the pick is only the Cavs#1.
For the Brk#1, it would take that and matching salary for Bazemore plus Dedmon or Muscala….
Really the Cavs should just start Rose and Osman in the backcourt, with Frye, TT and LJ, but Lue is the chooser.
In season deals are not going to (and shouldn’t) involve swapping out half the rotation players on each team, at least for the team looking to win. The KI was poorly conceived. It’s architect shouldn’t be allowed to double down. If they can move IT for anything useful or otherwise marketable, just do it. Then, if possible, add some young legs to the perimeter. Too late to reconfigure the team for this year.
