FEBRUARY 8, 7:48am: The Cavaliers and Clippers continue to discuss the possibility of a Jordan trade, and have had conversations with possible third teams as they explore ways to make a deal, league sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
FEBRUARY 7, 5:59pm: Clippers center DeAndre Jordan is the “number one target” for the Cavaliers in advance of tomorrow afternoon’s trade deadline, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. Appearing on a podcast with Chris Mannix, Charania says Cleveland’s front office continues to hold out hope of a deal.
The Cavs’ dream scenario is for L.A. to accept an offer that includes what Charania calls one of their “bad contracts” — either J.R. Smith or Tristan Thompson — along with Cleveland’s first-rounder in exchange for Jordan. The Clippers reportedly won’t consider the deal unless Brooklyn’s unprotected first-round pick is included.
Smith is signed for $14.72MM next season plus a non-guaranteed $15.68MM in 2019/20, while Thompson will make more than $36MM over the next two years. The Nets’ pick is No. 8 in our latest Reverse Standings, and Cleveland’s falls at 24th.
Jordan is putting up typical numbers in his 10th season with the Clippers, averaging 11.5 points, 14.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. He could be a difference maker for a porous Cavaliers team that is 28th in the league in defensive rating. Jordan can opt out of his more than $24MM salary for next season and become a free agent this summer.
Not a fit. Not a stretch 5. Not worth nets pick.
Elite rim protector, rebounder and taking bad contracts. Your dreaming if nets pick isnt included.
Half season rental and extremely limited offensively. Plus, DJ is not the magical puzzle piece that puts it all together for the Cavs, so there’s no reason for the Cavs to move the Nets pick for DJ. I agree DJ should be worth a lottery pick, maybe not a lottery pick that is likely to be top 5 but a late-ish lottery pick seems right.
One more day of this soap opera !
IT, triston, cavs pick = deandre, Bradley. Then go get George hill. All plus defenders and available
Lol why would LA do that trade? Given IT is still banged up, they would be giving up the two better players and taking on Thompson salary just for the 24th pick?
Maybe I’m not understanding something. Perhaps you’d care to explain to me how having 2 better players helps the Clippers, who won’t win a championship, get a better pick of their own?
They need a new alpha and playmaker in IT. Replace deandre with Triston and sell tickets with the kardasians in the front row in LaA. And add a draft pick
Toss is Osman too. Solid player and can move
You forgot D rose awesome 6th man
Throw in wade. I want to see him and LeBron break up
Not getting a lottery pick for a 2 month rental.
Hoops Hype says Cavs not making trades because they don’t have any players other teams want.
Cavs player asked about Jordan responded “At this point we’d accept Montell Jordan.”
If the Clippers hold on to Deandre, they better pray he doesn’t opt out. The only thing to be had here is pride, and not the good kind. They threw the white flag on the season when they traded Blake Griffin. As it stands right now, they’re almost assured the 14th pick. If they trade DJ, they should fall a bit and the 10th pick should be conceivable, plus, they’d have whatever pick they’d get in the trade. Sure seems better than settling for the 14th pick to me.
Lebron still thinks this is NBA 2k18, with a glitch to turn “team chemistry” off. Dude, you can’t keep signing and trading a small village of NBA players and expect everything to just fall in line within 5 games.
I really feel sorry for Cavs fans. Gotta be like watching your house slowly start to go up in flames, in the middle of nowhere, with no water or fire extinguisher.
Cav’s got a championship , came down from 3-1 and won game 7 on the road. I think ppl in Cleveland are happy that the house won a championship.
As a Cavs fan I agree with this statement. LOL We got our championship. Everything else is gravy. That’s what 50+ years of losing does to you. I can only imagine the depression over the city if we DIDN’T win that title. Indians lose 3 in a row and blow it 2 years in a row… Browns…. Well…. BROWNS. Ugh… Thank you Cavs. lol
The GM isn’t up to it, and is burdened by having made the KI trade and not wanting to look completely inept. He went the feeble volume route, and then vastly overrated the value of the two main assets, IT and the Nets pick. Cavs need to cut bait on IT for whatever he can fetch, and get a PG that fits. Forget the rest, they’re not good enough to go all in. At this point, keep the Nets pick and hope they fall back into the bottom 5 or so.
they should offer a pick swap in the trade. The cavs pick and then the cavs do a pick swap of nets for clippers pick at 10-14
I’d only give up the pick if they’re able to get Jordan AND Bradley or Austin Rivers…
Would it be allowed if the Cavs trade their entire roster except James for the clippers roster except DaniloG?
So, Clips won’t consider the deal without the Nets pick, and Cavs won’t trade the Nets pick for Jordan. Then what are they continuing to talk about? How many times can each team repeat its stance over the course of week? One or the other must be reconsidering, or talks are at least on hold. Considering their love of this pick, it would be hysterical if they traded it here.
The Cavs need a Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley and Evan Fournier to complete with the Ws. Jordan is useless other then to protect the rim vs the Ws and most of there Offense is perimeter based.
And to get rid of IT, JR, and Shumpert
That puts Bradley on Curry, Fournier on Klay, and Tobias on Durant. And frees up Bron to guard Draymond. Zaza is a non factor. So u need someone like Korver to b able to guard Iggy.
Nice comeback.
