FEBRUARY 2, 7:23am: The Cavaliers have issued a status update on Love, announcing that the veteran will undergo non-surgical treatment on his broken hand. He’s currently projected to be sidelined for about eight weeks, according to the team.
JANUARY 31, 11:55am: It remains uncertain whether or not Love will require surgery, but the Cavs are expected to rule him out for up to two months, tweets Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. That would put the big man to miss all of February and perhaps all of March as well.
JANUARY 30, 8:18pm: After sustaining a left hand injury Tuesday, Cavaliers forward Kevin Love is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, Brian Windhorst of ESPN tweets.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin adds that an X-Ray has revealed a non-displaced fracture in the big man’s fifth metacarpal. That’s different, Jason Lloyd of The Athletic tweets, than the bone Love broke with the Timberwolves back in 2009.
Per Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, Love was removed from the Cavs’ tilt against the Pistons in the first quarter and will be further evaluated on Wednesday.
Assuming the current diagnosis remains, Love will miss his second straight All-Star Game with an injury (last February he had minor knee surgery). This year, Love has posted averages of 18.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, although the entire 2017/18 Cavaliers season has been mired in drama.
This is the latest setback in a down year for the reigning Eastern Conference champions, a team that’s already said to have been actively seeking reinforcements via trade as the February 8 trade deadline approaches.
And the sky continues to fall in Cleveland
This has gotta get Kemba, Simmons, Tatum, Dragic in
For what?
The Heat do not have any allstars, so I think Dragic will be the choice.
Ellington?
We gonna pretend Kelly Olynyk doesn’t exist?
Realistically, only Dragic is a worthy All-Star from the Heat. Simmons or Kemba seem more likely since Drummond already replaced Wall.
I’d give Ellington a vote the dude has been playing extremely well
I really hope you are kidding with Olynyk and Ellington deserving consideration.. since when is 11 and 5 for Olynyk or 12 and 3 for Ellington all-star worthy? Goran doesn’t even deserve it with guys like Simmons, Kemba, Middleton, Schroder, Porter Jr all sitting out there still
that’s great!! now only if LeBron tore his ACL!! I hope the cavaliers don’t make the playoffs that would be sweet!!
Jeez
don’t wish injury upon a player
Wtf is wrong with you
Who wishes an injury upon anyone? You’re a joke!
Yeah, definitely not a Cavs fan or a LeBron fan for that matter, BUT wishing an injury to ANY player is bush league AF. The Cavs will rally, probably make a trade. The conference finals will still go through Cleveland.
Bush league is a nice way of putting it. If they didn’t have a butt hurt commenting policy in place you can say what we all think about someone wishing injury on someone.
With how Cleveland is playing now there’s almost zero chance they make it out of the east unless they make a trade. Boston, TOR and honestly the Bucks with Parker coming back are all better right now
lol it’s just payback since you know he was the one that jumped up and hit Gordon Hayward which ultimately lead to him breaking his leg
Yes because Love has a history of being a malicious player. You are a horrible person.
cyclical karma? like olynyk wrenching on his shoulder,
That’s totally uncalled for. I understand that you dislike LeBron, but to wish an injury upon someone is just stupid.
Settle down mother theresa
Wishing LeBron or any player tearing an ACL is like saying I hope your smash your knee in a car accident … dirty and uncalled for … I don’t know you so I’d never wish you harm and I’m assuming here you don’t know LeBron … and to clarify … I’m not a Cavs fan … go Wolves!
I didn’t realize that hoping something bad happened was “dirty.” You do know that hoping something happens doesn’t make it happen, right? Also, if you hope something and it happens, it wasn’t your fault.
it means you’re a real Richard
Cranium
Can somebody ban this clown like really you wished one of the best players in the world to tear his knee ?? Watch when the league loses superstars and idiots like you will call the league “watered down”
Wow…
Nance Jr for their own first
Randle, lake show should keep nance. But I get the Home coming story it would be for Nance.
Can he cover durant? I would not assume that although he has a high defensive rating.
That would be a cool father-son thing.
in other news: the Chiefs trade Alex Smith to the Redskins!
Now they can blame their losses on Kevin Love’s hand
Lmao!!
Terrible to see a player get hurt. Crazy the year the Cavs are having. I think for sure Lebron leaves this offseason and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to the Rockets.
I agree LeBron goes to Houston
I think the sixers are a dark horse in the east. Young team all drafted kind of Warriors esque. The east is an easier path
Time to blow it up. Trade IT for a draft pick. Use the Lakers 6-30 from my Sixers? They need a pure scorer in the worst way. I think they’d actually take an injured Kevin Love too since he has 2 yrs left, perfect compliment to Embiid and Simmons.
Love, IT, Shumpert and Frye to the Sixers. +2 wins
Dwight Howard, Kemba Walker, Batum, and Marvin Williams to the Cavs. +3 wins
Redick, Amir Johnson, Trevor Booker, and Tristian Thompson + Lakers 6-30 and lottery protected Sixers pick in 2018 or 2019.
Complete rebuild for Charlotte with a solid young player under an okay contract in TT. Sixers get legit scorers. Cavs get defense, rebounding, a legit PG, and a future beyond LBJ if he leaves, but better supporting cast to persuade him to stay.
Novel complete.
So the Hornets are giving up Kemba Howard and Batum for basically Tristan Thompson and. Protected first? Care to explain why Charlotte would do this deal? Even with the cap savings they’re getting little of value
Two 1st round picks. Lakers pick is 9th, Sixers pick is 15th. The Hornets want to dump salary in the worst way, that is the only reason Walker is even available, if you’ve followed the storyline. This draft is deep. If Lakers pick is not converted make it 2 Sixers picks in alternating years. Dumps like 65M lol c’mon dude.
56M saved next season. I inverted. That in itself is HUGE. Beyond huge.
Your trade proposal sucks. Everyone’s does.
Hey I’ve called some actual trades before they happened. Got Prince Fielder/ Ian Kinsler down to the dollar figure included in the trade too. Can’t be worse than what I’ve seen from the radio guys in Philly like Spike Esp in who did segments on just fake trades.
I actually kind of like this, but I don’t think it’s necessary for Philly, and I would also probably think 1 more asset should go to Charlotte from Philly or Cleveland, probably a young player
money prob works, Anderson or TLC or Korkmaz are the expendables.
Kevin Love is definitely extending that hand injury just so he doesn’t have to keep playing for the Cavs. Come on dude a left hand injury? 6-8 weeks? That is nuts, don’t blame him though the Cavs suck.
Did he check with the rest of the team first before having it announced he would miss time? Prolly faking it.
Good comment!lol
Take the rest of the season off buddy. The Warriors got it covered.
Should swoop in and get Mirotic from Bulls. Sure Bulls want a 1, but they might be willing to take a chance on Crowder bouncing back…
I bet Isaiah Thomas is calling for a team meeting so everyone can see the X-rays in person and decide if it’s really broken or not.
Well, there’s goes LeBron’s convenient scapegoat. Wonder who the Cavs blame for all their problems now, with Love out.
The problem would be that Love is out. If Olynyk didn’t go WWE on him, they may have won the 1st meeting w GSW.
This attached to the wrong reply. fml.
Chisoxfan – reference? All I read is that the recent inquisition was led by Thomas. James has always been pro-Love. Gilbert is not, he likes IT.
At this point you’re about three years out of the loop. Since you’re not familiar with behind the scenes antics (and several on-court) I suggest doing your own research on the Cavs. Start with googling Chris Bosh’s advice to Love about LeBron. LeBron’s been treating Love like the red headed step child, as Bosh predicted. Subtle comments to the media, leaked discord to LeBron’s mouthpieces in the media and, ultimately isolation and open challenges from teammates. That’s how LeBron operates.
Don’t bother, he won’t listen.

Since Chisoxcity failed to back up his sinister claim with a reference, I’ll provide it. What is there shows no disrespect, much as Chisoxcity would like there to be. Instead we see that Bosh “told” Love (via media) that personal sacrifices are necessary to achieve team goals. Love already knew that and wanted that and got that. It is widely known that what held back Love the most, though, was Irving, and this year, a positional switch.
I am quite familiar with “behind the scemes antics” on the Cavs, however, I prefer to stick to true things not made-up things by hostiles.
Chisox’s “passive-aggressive” charge means he has nothing to go on. But anyone can gossip, and that gets ratings.
Oh great, a LeBron apologists. Many reputable journalists/analysts have already discussed this issue extensively. The animosity LeBron towards Love (and Love’s indifference to it). The parallels to Bosh during LeBron’s Heat days are uncanny, and Bosh’s comment was prophetic. Bosh told Love outright that he would be scapegoated and ostracized by LeBron when things didn’t go well, despite his Love’s own willingness to sacrifice his stats and importance on the team. It’s not my job to provide you specific references (Google is your friend). I surmise there’s a reason you haven’t done your own research, or simply choose to ignore what is public record.
I researched and found your source and you were wrong about it. There is nothing like what you said, this time “scapegoated and ostracized” Others making the same sort of claim– and there are other gossips doing that– also can NOT find or quote any real-life reference outside of other gossips. If Love wanted to be buddies with James, well that did not happen, but there is no obligation for that.
If you can’t prove your claim or call it an opinion then YOU ARE A FRAUD.
Maybe try reading your own recommended link with your eyes open.
And why is it James’ job to ostricize or not ostracize? He has 2 friends on the team left, probably about the NBA average. Love is a grown man…
Here’s a little fun fact for you: Love was NOT popular in Minnesota. He abandoned them worse than James did Cleveland. Maybe you forgot. Wolves fans did not miss him personally.
And the only actual evidence for the topic you raised that I have seen was one parenthetical comment by a cleveland.com (C. Plain Dealer) beat writer: “Love is not the most popular player on the team, but…”
Lol
So for every game, the Cavs will have only one or two areas of advantage– the 3 and maybe, the bench. There could still be enough to make a run. If not… another excuse now exists that might help keep James in town.
What excuse would that be? LeBron’s already has one foot out the door with the pacif-aggressive behavior towards everyone in the organization. It’s quite possible the Cavs don’t make the Finals this year. That would certainly be the nail in the coffin for him wanting to quit on his team… again.
Apologies for the spelling, just woke up.
The excuse, obviously, is that a failure to reach the finals is due to a temporary problem– Love’s injury– not to some lasting structural issue.
BTW it’s not called “quitting” when players leave in free agency. It’s a free country and James at the time had never lived outside of NEOhio. Why does James get your special negativity? Or do you call everybody who changes teams a quitter. Anyway James ‘un-quit’– most teams that lose a player in free agency never see him on the home side again.
LeBron broke his commitment to Miami when he abruptly left after a loss in the NBA finals. “Not one… not two.., not three… not four…”. Given Cavs fans reactions to LeBron when he left the first time, they all felt LeBron quit on them too. Basically, LeBron has loyalty to nothing and no one but himself, as you yourself described it.
Dumpster fire @ the mistake by the lake!!! Pacers fans singing: “you didn’t get enough!!!” Love can’t be the whipping boy now. IT traded….who rents him?? He is a loose cannon and expects max deal….no thanks.
Oh no! Who is going to be lebrons scapegoat now?
This just goes to show if you take away LeBron’s superteam, and hold him to the salary cap like most teams, he’s not the king anymore. Just like his first tenure in Cleveland.
Whatever you said has not been proven, depending on what you mean. Is there no other topic or team for you to discuss? Sorry you have to live in Cleveland where you hate the teams.
I do like Kevin Love and Kyle Korver!
Love and Klay Thompson are good friends. Let’s trade up and get Luka Doncic. Get Love’s friends in here and LeBron’s senior citizen community outa here. Then I will be a Cavs fan. I’m an NBA league pass kind of guy. I’m rooting for OKC now too! Yes LeBron was proven the first time in Cleveland. He couldn’t beat Boston. Now Cleveland stinks again so he’s taking the approach if you can’t beat the Warriors, you might as well join him. Afraid of going to Lakers because it might hurt his legacy???
I’m a real big Kyrie Irving fan. He left Cleveland too.
