The Clippers have decided against converting Tyrone Wallace‘s two-way contract into a standard contract, Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times tweets.
Wallace reached his 45-day NBA limit at the beginning of the month and now must remain in the G League under the end of its season. The Clippers need to sign him for the rest of the season or give him a 10-day contract in order for him to return to the NBA — the team still has several weeks before the deadline to convert Wallace’s deal, but it appears the decision has been made.
If the Clippers reach the postseason, they will not be able to add him to the postseason roster. He will become a restricted free agent this summer.
Wallace signed with the Clippers in early January after they waived Jamil Wilson and was productive. He averaged 10.1 PPG, 3.4 RPG and 2.5 APG in 21 games with the Clippers. The 6’5” shooting guard was a second-round pick by the Jazz in 2016.
When a player hits 45 Days does that mean 45 games or 45 days on the roster including off days?
I believe it’s 45 days, but with the ability to shuttle someone back and forth to the G League there’s not much need to have them on the roster if it’s not a game day anyway
I think The definition of a nba day for a 2-way player is defined in much more complexed terms.
The rules for an NBA day of service for a two-way player are extremely particular, which has made it sort of difficult to track how many days most players have actually used. Here’s the relevant excerpt straight from the CBA:
“A Two-Way Player will accrue one day of service for an NBA Team (an “NBA Day of Service”) for each calendar day during the NBA Regular Season during which the player
(i) is on the NBA Team’s Active List for an NBA game,
(ii) participates in any practice, basketball drill, conditioning, workout, or other such activity with one or more players on the NBA Team under the direction and supervision of the NBA Team, or
(iii) travels with or at the direction of (including remaining on the road with) the NBA Team, other than if the only travel during that day is return travel to the NBA Team’s home city that takes place between 12:00 midnight and 1:00 a.m; provided, however, that a Two-Way Player will not accrue an NBA Day of Service for traveling between his NBADL team and NBA Team.”
Like to believe J West will re sign this guy. Clips under never been able to find “diamonds in the rough” type players until Ty Wallace. Probably be A Rivers replacement after the season.
