Lakers point guard Isaiah Thomas is en route to New York to have his ailing hip evaluated, tweets Lakers beat reporter Mike Trudell.
Thomas was ruled out of the Lakers’ last two games on Saturday and Monday due to the hip. He was sidelined for a portion of last year’s postseason due to a right femoral-acetabular impingement with a labral tear in his hip. The injury carried over into 2017/18; after he was traded to the Cavaliers, Thomas did not debut until January 2.
Thomas struggled in 15 games with the Cavaliers, averaging 14.7 PPG and 4.5 APG as the team struggled to mesh. The Cavs went in a different direction at the deadline and traded Thomas to the Lakers.
Thomas has played well in 17 games with Los Angeles, averaging 15.6 APG and 5.0 APG.
It has been a tough past year for Thomas, who finished fifth in NBA Most Valuable Player voting last spring. He is currently on his third team in less than a year, and has not been healthy for most this season. Thomas, who is set to hit free agency after this season, made his desire for a max contract clear in 2017, but that outcome seems very unlikely now.
He’d be best served taking up some cap space next year as Lonzo’s backup. He’ll get plenty of views being in LA, and the Lakers will be willing to take on one year of sizable salary if and when they strike out on lebron
That’s what I’ve been thinking. Something similar to the Redick deal minus a few million
As they did with KCP and kinda Brook Lopez, they’re willing to make deals that don’t compromise them financially
And this guy wanted the Celtics to back up the Brinx truck…lol
Wouldn’t you if you knew it was your chance? I’d venture to say you would do the same…lol
As would anyone. Sucks to be him and sucks more the Celtics saw he would never be the same player and gained a 10x better player back for him. His greediness ruined him in Boston.
He was never really worth the max to begin with. I always said that Boston should trade him
and was thrilled when they did.
I’m still sad that he hasn’t gotten healthy yet, because he’s a great one-way player who will fit in somewhere nicely.
recently when asked about a potential return to Boston he said “anything’s possible…” despite him acting like a total baby about the trade for the past 8+ months… if he swallows his ego and could somehow fit in the Celtics cap (sign and trade could actually work w/ LA) he would be a perfect fit as Boston’s 6th man next year. I don’t think it’s likely… but it would be fascinating to watch.
Really? Sad? Lol
hes clearly not a max player….selfish , injuries and hes gonna be 30….
Hard to figure what team he fits; post Lakers.
Wish him well;
but he needs to realize he can’t command his future like he could have previously injury.
Prior to his injury
He should have never balked at the celtics original extension offers. He wanted $200 mil. He’ll be lucky to see $75 mil in his career at this point.
struggled in 15 games with the Cavaliers, averaging 14.7 PPG and 4.5 APG
played well in 17 games with Los Angeles, averaging 15.6 APG and 5.0 APG
Read that again.
He’s gunna go somewhere that gives him the most possible shot taking opportunity like Orlando, Atlanta, LA Clippers or Memphis. But his role would b either as a tiny 2 guard or cone off the bench.
