Chris Paul will be a free agent this offseason, but he’s not looking ahead to the possibilities that this summer could bring. “Not at all,” Paul said when asked if he’s thought about his upcoming free agency (via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle). “Not one time. Not once. I just always worry about right now.”
The point guard is happy in Houston and it’s easy to envision him remaining with the franchise — after all, when he decided to join the Rockets, it wasn’t simply about him. His family moved with him to Texas, which means his free agency is about more than basketball options. It’s about life decisions.
“That’s what happened when the trade happened,” Paul said. “I love it here. I love it here.”
Paul will be eligible for a five-year deal worth approximately $205MM this offseason. GM Daryl Morey wouldn’t discuss potential contract specifics, though he said that top-shelf point guards like Paul have a history of playing well late in their careers.
“Obviously, when we get someone as great as Chris Paul or James Harden, the plan is to keep him here,” Morey said during the season. “He’ll have a choice when the season ends. We feel like we set things up well. It should be an easy choice for him.”
He will resign after they get LeBron
Then that will be three guys that need the ball in their hands. Harden and Paul made major adjustments for the other I don’t think they can accommodate a third.
Funny, calling these guys ball hogs…what’s their record again?
They are making it work with two guys …..what I said was bringing in a third ball-dominant player will be tough to accommodate.
We don’t know what their record would be. Probably pretty good, but how do the salaries work, and ball dominant guys who don’t have the ball all the time are less effective than they are/were with the ball. See Carmelo Anthony.
Keep dreaming.
Why would Harden want to give up his shine to Lebron? Don’t see Lebron coming to Houston at all. If anything Lebron signs with Charlotte.
Your just love pushing that fantasy land idea of Lebroj to Charlotte
Yea well why wouldn’t he go there? Kemba is a 20 point scorer and Howard’s game will only elevate playing with Lebron, not to mention Malik Monk who has all the makings of a 20 point scorer next season if he gets 25-35 minutes next season at the shooting guard position. Plus he gets to stay in the East, Kemba and Howard are veterans and Monk is absolutely fearless offensively.
Because theres better options. Teams that actually made the playoffs and have 20 point scorers. Lol its so obvious man
Um the market size. The quality of team and staff. And Michael Jordan owns it if you hadn’t noticed. They are not know to get along. So please explain how Kemba and Monk are a better 2 and 3 than Harden and Paul, Simmons and Embid, Ball and Kuzma and Cousins/George
Hell how is Charlotte a better situation than…
NY’s market, Porzingus
LA market, Jordan and a lot of role talent
Butler and Towns in Minnesota
Lillard, McCollum Nuric in Portland
Popovich, Leanord,Aldrich, I’m SA.
And these teams have virtually little to no chance of signing him.
Philly is Houston’s only rival in pursuit of James.
Dude Harden is not going to want to play with Lebron, no way he goes to Houston.
LA, then if Philly makes a good run in the playoffs they are a threat.
He would figure they were one guy away like the Celtics were before Kyrie. One guy away.
LA is trash an no where close to contending. He’s not going there.
With three max guys they are immediate contenders.
LBJ will probably stay in Cleveland, and somebody (KL) will come to him.
If Kawhi comes to Cleveland the Celtics and Sixers might have to wait another 2-3 years before they smell a Finals. Lebron and Kawhi would be absolutely insane.
That ship has sailed. He came back, his conscience is clear, time to do him now (again.)
I don’t see LBJ in Houston being an issue as it relates to sharing the ball. The Thunder have struggled with it, but that’s because they have two “semi-willing” passers, and a third that doesn’t know what to do in his new role. All three of LBJ, Harden and Paul are generally in the top 10 in assists, and all three are averaging at least 8.8 this year. They’ve all shown they’re willing to share, and I think it would be the same even with all three out there.
It’s not an issue for the Thunder either. Their top 3 play fine, the rest of the team does not.
The Thunder have a lot of players who play their roles pretty good(Grant,Felton,Adams,Brewer).
Houston is a terrible fit for Lebron for the simple reason that Harden wouldn’t want him there.
You have no idea what Harden wants no matter how many times you say it.
Yes those players are willing passers. Very willing. But here’s the thing I’m going to be the one to create and pass and then you shoot a jumper. That’s how they rack up those assists. Each guy wants to be that creator. If LeBron was in Houston Harden and Paul would become spot-up Shooters, which they would be very good at but you would take away from their overall game. Plus as the Warriors are seeing now you’re not going to be able to fit all those salaries without paying major, major tax.
