Among all their coaching candidates, the Knicks are showing particular interest in former Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer and former Cavaliers coach David Blatt, tweets Marc Stein of The New York Times.
Both men interviewed for the job in the past five days, and Knicks management “ramped up” its background work on Budenholzer and Blatt this week, according to Stein.
Budenholzer officially ended his relationship with Atlanta this week after requesting permission to interview for openings in Phoenix and New York. He has withdrawn from consideration for the Suns’ post, but is said to be particularly interested in joining the Knicks. Budenholzer led the Hawks to four straight playoff appearances before this season, but didn’t want to remain with a rebuilding franchise.
Blatt has been coaching in Turkey since being fired by Cleveland midway through the 2015/16 season. He took the Cavaliers to the finals in his only full NBA season, but was dismissed amid rumors that LeBron James preferred to have a former player as his coach.
Take both and can Perry.
he doesnt want to be in a rebuild but wants the knicks job lol ok. just say u dont like atlanta bro
From everything I’ve seen, Bud wants to avoid tanking – not rebuilding. He’s OK with being a bad team that is building, but if the team is looking to tank for draft picks then someone else can have the job.
From some of the rumors at the end of his tenure with the Hawks, I can’t really say I blame him.
Haha exactly
Is it possible San Antonio trades Kawhi to New York for Porzingis and a first and Lebron comes over?
Not worth it. Leonard for the Knicks 18′ 1st rounder and Lee would be the only way that is an acceptable trade. Trading away Porzingis for anything less than multiple first round picks in the same draft, would be the Knicks continuing to make poor decisions.
Kawhi is linked with the Knicks since he got his medical work done there plus he wants Pop to switch up certain ways he handles practices. It would take a lot of compromising on Pop’s behalf to keep Kawhi in SA and I just don’t see Pop giving Kawhi his way. The Knicks could easily hire a coach Kawhi would want to play with and it’s the big market he seeks.
HH – SA will get more than that. No reason why they’d ever do a deal like that.
Kawhi to NYK isn’t a bad thought. I know he had a good relationship with Budenholzer in SA too.
Having said that, I’d think NYK would be the one looking for SAS to give assets in a Kawhi for Porzingis swap. AGE and Distance to unrestricted FA are big factors.
Or the Knicks can just wait to sign him. If he isn’t traded to a team he likes, he’ll hit the free agent market.
Henderson, are you frickin’ kidding, Lee and a 1st??? Going to take A LOT more to get Kawhi out of SA.
And it’s going to take a lot more for the Knicks to let go of Porzingis.
