In an NBA season packed with incredible performances and remarkable statistical achievements, we wanted to let you make the call on which 15 players are most deserving of All-NBA recognition.
Last Monday, we opened voting for the All-NBA First Team. We moved on to the Second Team on Wednesday, and then opened the polls for the Third Team on Friday. The results of all those polls are in, so let’s check them out.
- Guard: James Harden (Rockets)
- Guard: Russell Westbrook (Thunder)
- Forward: LeBron James (Cavaliers)
- Forward: Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks)
- Note: Antetokounmpo was the third-leading vote-getter at forward behind Anthony Davis, who won the voting at center.
- Center: Anthony Davis (Pelicans)
- Guard: Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers)
- Guard: Stephen Curry (Warriors)
- Forward: Kevin Durant (Warriors)
- Forward: LaMarcus Aldridge (Spurs)
- Center: Joel Embiid (Sixers)
- Guard: Devin Booker (Suns)
- Guard: Victor Oladipo (Pacers)
- Forward: Ben Simmons (Sixers)
- Forward: Paul George (Thunder)
- Center: Karl-Anthony Towns (Timberwolves)
Your top vote-getters in the final round of polling that didn’t quite earn spots on the Third Team: DeMar DeRozan (Raptors), Kyrie Irving (Celtics), Jimmy Butler (Timberwolves), Al Horford (Celtics), and Nikola Jokic (Nuggets).
My personal All-NBA choices would look pretty similar to yours, albeit with a few small changes. Booker was an out-of-left-field choice for the Third Team here, and I’d expect DeRozan or Irving to take his place in the actual voting. I’d want to make room for Oladipo on the Second Team, likely at Curry’s expense — Curry was phenomenal, but only appeared in 51 games, which hurts his case. Rudy Gobert also didn’t play a full season, appearing in just 56 games, but his defense was so game-changing for the Jazz that I’d be tempted to put him on the Third Team in place of Towns.
What do you think? Do you disagree strongly with any of these choices? Do you expect major discrepancies when the official All-NBA teams are announced? Let us know in the comments section!
Devin Booker all nba 3rd team? Lol
Kyrie and Demar over Booker and Oladipo
I wonder with all the positional flexibility if it will mess with the actual votes like it did on here. With the NBA moving this way it may make sense to change to G-F-C and 2 “flex positions”.
Yeah, I was going to mention this. I don’t have access to the official ballot, so I can’t confirm which position(s) each player is listed at, but I know Butler, Simmons, Davis, and a few other candidates are considered both G/F or F/C. Will be interesting to see the impact that has.
Booker over DeRozan? Wow that raised an eyebrow.
Irving, Butler, Paul, and Curry all missed a bunch of games. Curry is still clearly better than these other 3.
Oladipo, who had a great year, gets a little lucky with all these top guys being injured. 2nd team seems right spot for him. And he has actually a strong case to be ahead of RW. IND and OKC both won 48 games, and sure looks like Oladipo did this with less.
3rd team is tougher for the guards. DeRozan for sure, but then who? What about Thompson? He had a solid year again with stellar defense. He played 22 more games than Curry, too. Did Curry really do more in his 51 games compared to Thompson’s 73 games? Or Simmons could be at guard spot, too.
3rd team C is pretty weak, but KAT seems like right choice. Though Aldridge is being listed as a F for 2nd time, and Giannis can play every position.
That was a messed-up third team. Mine would look like Adams’, with Olidipo on 2nd and Gobert on 3rd, with Curry, Irving, Butler, and Draymond Green. Thompson, Simmons, Derozan, & Jokic out Yikes! Too many great guards but we knew that.
No raptors? Can I call Derozan a F, he’s pretty tall… Or Simmons at least…
