One season after going 41-41 and missing the playoffs by virtue of a tiebreaker with the Bulls, the Heat improved by three games in 2017/18 and made the playoffs as the No. 6 seed with a record of 44-38.
However, the Heat were faced with a difficult first-round matchup against the red-hot Sixers, who finished the season 16-0 and, just last night, eliminated the Heat from the playoffs in five games. Earlier today, we asked for your thoughts on Miami’s offseason outlook with a Community Shootaround post. Now, we want to know specifically whether you believe the Heat should trade Hassan Whiteside.
With over 20% of the team’s guaranteed salary for next season owed to Whiteside, the Heat dangerously close to the luxury tax in 2018/19, Whiteside’s playing time dwindling dramatically in the later part of the regular season and into the postseason, and Whiteside’s publicly voiced displeasure with his new role, President Pat Riley may need to decide this summer whether Whiteside is worth the headache and, if not, whether he can find a suitable trade partner for the big man.
Unfortunately for the Heat, they do not have a first-round pick this summer to attach to Whiteside’s contract which may make it difficult to entice a team to take on his contract. However, the Heat do have their 2019 first-round selection to deal if they so choose. Regardless, assuming a deal is tenable, what do you think?
If you were Pat Riley, would you trade Hassan Whiteside or would you keep him with the hopes that he can return to his 2016/17 form? Vote below in our poll, then jump into the comment section to share your thoughts.

Can*
Lmao exactly.
Can is exactly right. Whiteside stuffs stat pages, but his real value is considerably less than what his numbers suggest. He’s not Jo Noah obviously, but he’s a bad fit on big deal guy. May be difficult to move him for cap relief or fair player value without attaching younger assets or picks.
I don’t think you’re getting really any value back. You will get trash for trash basically… as I put together below lol.
Trade him, he has no hustle, he needs a Cavs tupe team just help with he’s size and rebounds, no much scoring he’ll be great for the Cavs, Raptors, Celtics, Rockets. For us he’s not showing much help. I wish we could get Kawhi for him.
Cavs – Thompson & Cedi, but Whiteside has same limitations as Thompson.
Celtics Horford > Whiteside.
Raptors Ibaka & Valanciunas > Whiteside
Rockets Anderson better run & gun fit than Whiteside.
Rockets – LBJ
Heat – Anderson & Nene
Cavs – Whiteside & Tucker – but I don’t see the Cavs doing that unless LBJ forced them to do so by just telling them he’ll opt out and leave.
I saw something about Biyombo and Vucevic for Whiteside.
I feel like that would be a waste for Orlando though. Vucevic is an expiring contract. That holds value in a league with terrible contracts.
Dude.. None of those teams would trade for him
Okay I guess you “Can” trade him…
Heat don’t have their 2018 or 2021 pick. They can trade their 2019 pick, not their 2020 or 2022 (two in a row).
DeAndre Jordan for Whiteside & Richardson & 2019 pick.
or
DeAndre Jordan & Harris/Gallinari for Whiteside, Dragic, and Richardson.
Whiteside for Brandon Knight, Tyson Chandler, and Miami’s pick back. That would be a smart choice actually – Knight is coming off injury and basically a ?, but Chandler is expiring. And their pick gets them a decent player.
Trades that won’t involve any draft picks – All are Trash for Trash.
Whiteside for Matthews.
Whiteside for Biyombo and Mack.
Whiteside for Mozgov & Lin.
Whiteside for Noah & Dotson.
Whiteside for Koufos, Temple, and Shumpert.
Whiteside for Randolph and Koufos or Temple or Shumpert (if Shump opts-in).
Zero percent chance Phoenix includes a pick in a deal for him. I do think Whiteside-Matthews might make a good deal
Phoenix owns Miami’s pick.
And there are few near “untradeable” contracts bc one wants to waste a roster spot. Knight is one of them. Noah, Mozgov, and Deng round out that list.
Who would the bucks give up for him?
Henson & Delly for Whiteside.
Good Luck. Embiid exposed him as a non championship caliber center. Riley has dished out some regrettable contracts.
