Teams hoping to see Michael Porter Jr. slip in the draft may be in for a disappointment. A pair of reports indicate the Kings, who hold the second pick, and the Grizzlies, who have No. 4, plan to take a long look at the Missouri star.
Both teams will have representatives on hand Friday when Porter participates in Priority Sports’ pro day in Chicago. It will be his first time playing in a public setting since declaring for the draft, and it will allow teams to judge the condition of his surgically repaired back.
Sacramento has shown “significant interest” in Porter over the past year, league sources tell Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated. A strong workout could move him up the Kings’ draft board, but maybe not all the way to No. 2. Woo speculates that Sacramento could be willing to trade down in hopes of landing Porter with a later pick.
Memphis was among several teams that met with Porter at last month’s Draft Combine, and the organization believes he can provide scoring and versatility, writes Michael Wallace of NBA.com. Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace looks forward to receiving Porter’s medical records and seeing him in action.
“He’ll be evaluated, and I’ll be up there in Chicago – several of us will – to see his pro day,” Wallace said. “And we’ll go from there.”
Ayton, Bagley, Jackson Jr, Porter jr, Bamba, Doncic, Carter jr, Mikal Bridges, Kevin Knox, Trae Young, SGA, Miles Bridges, Lonnie Walker, Troy Brown, Robert Williams, Colin Sexton is how I can see it going the first 16 picks, although obviously trades will likely be involved and that could easily move certain guys, like Sexton up
If that’s your order, Knicks don’t take Knox and Sexton isn’t falling that far.
It’s probably going to have to involve trades. Otherwise, it’s hard to see certain fits. I’d agree Sexton should go higher, but to who? I dont see a fit with anyone until Phoenix, unless the Clippers take him with one of their picks
Knox2Knix. Already called it
Neither of these franchises can really afford to miss on their lottery picks this year. Kings are a disaster trying to open a new arena. Grizzlies are in freefall trying to stay out of basketball purgatory. Add in some bad deals and neither team can afford to miss out on a franchise altering player by taking a chance on Porter Jr. They can’t even try again next year, as the Celtics own each of their first rounders lol
Kings have had a new stadium
Dude obviously is oblivious to what the Kings have the arena has been open for 2 years..and the front office has changed a lot
Yeah I will admit I’m oblivious to the Kings. There’s a reason it’s known as basketball purgatory. And as a Grizzlies fan I know Joerger’s style and I wouldn’t say it’s ideal for spectators. My negligence about when the arena opened aside, it hasn’t changed the fact that they are a terrible team with very little optimism in sight. They can’t afford a miss here
There’s a top 4 in this draft, and then there’s Bamba and Porter who have the athletic profiles to disrupt that. But I see the guy possibly jumping into the top 4 being Bamba more than Porter. Memphis, though, I doubt will take a one position C at #4 or Porter (except at the direction of a trade partner). Knicks should start exploring a trade up (Orlando might be easier than Memphis) or trade down (wouldn’t trouble me, as it’s a deep draft, and they might be able to get an equal or better prospect in the mid 1st round vs #9).
I see a top three – Ayton, Bagley Jr, Porter Jr., but one of them has an asterisk (Porter) due to potential injury risk.
I see 3 levels– 1,6,15.
Missouri star. 53 minutes of stardom.
With MPJ is all about his health, if he is healthy, as I think it is, seems to be a similar injury than Embiid had, in that case I think the #2 is quite right definitely a big steal beyond the top 3, I do think teams sometimes need to take risks, & yes maybe he cannot deliver over the years through the injury but if he can he is a franchise altering player, an absolute beast, I would take him ahead of Doncic, Bamba & Young & in no way can he be taken behind Jackson Jr. By the way is it only me but I think Jackson Jr is being hyped so much, really cannot see him ever been in a similar level than Ayton, Bagley or even Bamba & Carter Jr.
