The Trail Blazers have agreed to acquire Gary Trent Jr. in a trade with the Kings after Sacramento selected him with the 37th overall pick, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (via Twitter).
According to Wojnarowski (via Twitter), the Kings will receive a pair of future second-round picks from Portland in exchange for Trent. The Blazers will also send cash to Sacramento, per the NBA’s official announcement.
Trent, 19, made an impact as a shooter during his lone season at Duke. He connected on better than 40% of his long-range shots while averaging 14.5 points per game. He could provide another weapon in an already high-scoring Blazers’ backcourt.
Trent Jr is a steal in this draft!
Portland has had a terrible draft in my opinion. They better hope Simons turns into something. They didnt do anything to address their wing depth, defense, or general depth. I had them taking Jacob Evans, who ended up with Golden State. There were also still multiple guys on the board to address their needs. At least Trent can shoot, but he cant play defense. They’ve had a few bad drafts in a row
You act like your opinion is superior to all. “I had him… there are… they should have…” I think NBA gm’s know what they’re doing over some random internet commentator with a highly flawed mock. If you didn’t watch him at Duke, he profiles as a poor man’s Arron Afflalo who is a volume scorer and improving defender with footwork. Portland gets a developing 2 guard to learn behind Dame and CJ and their guard oriented offense allows Trent good opportunities to showcase his offensive skill set.
Simons is a project but has even higher upside.
I said “in my opinion.” You’re the one constantly being hostile on here
And lol at flawed mock. You do realize that a lot of the guards/wings taken in the late teens/early 20s, through the mid 40s are relatively similar level players…I dont know why I wanted my time responding, but it’s one of those days for me, so whatever
Agree. And it sure seems like Simons has the worst scouting reports of this group of guards you mention, so why Simons goes before most of them is a mystery. It’s like he gets points for AVOIDING college.
“Combo guard” Simons averaged 20.4 points & 1.3 assists in the Under Armour Association, I type smirking. They already got good years from Napier & Connaughton.
I like the looks of Simmons & GTJ, really pleased for Portland, but also I think CJ might be on the move, lots of SG’s for Portland, I think they are gonna trade CJ this summer, mark my words.
