JULY 15: The Celtics announced in a press release that Allen has been waived.
JULY 14: The Celtics will release point guard Kadeem Allen and give his two-way slot to someone else next week, tweets Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe.
A second-round pick out of Arizona in 2017, Allen saw action in just 18 games for the Celtics, averaging 1.1 points in 5.9 minutes. However, he was a G League All-Star with Maine and was named to the All-Defensive team.
Boston only has one two-way spot filled, but the team extended a qualifying offer to Jabari Bird, who held a two-way contract last season, and may view him for the same role in 2018/19. Keep track of all the two-way deals with our Two-Way Contract Tracker.
Odd timing based on the fact he’s playing a summer league game vs Heat right now.
He is a really good defender, so I assume he’ll get picked up by someone
He was not an asset to the Celts. He was a liability.
Anyone can defend easier than offensive game, so to me doesn’t say much to say he is a good defender.
wrong…
Exactly!! If playing solid defense was so easy, you would not see so many players with crazy measurables and athleticism that can’t defend to save their lives…
Ask Wiggins how easy it is to lock down an NBA player..Ask Jalil Okafor, Zach LaVine, or even ask the reigning NBA MVP James Harden…He looks like a matador out there on defense, yet he’s so gifted offensively, he won the most valuable player award…
There are WAY MORE players that are capable of putting up 20 points a game, then there are lock down defenders in the league..FACT!!
Disappointing…hoping Bird gets a spot on the main roster
I agree. Bird’s earned a spot.
