Kevin Durant is not only one of the top players in the NBA, he’s also one of the league’s most outspoken figures. Whether it’s his blunt honesty on social media or weighing in on social issues, Durant’s comments are never far from the forefront.
Durant spoke to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated on LeBron James‘ decision to sign with the Lakers, praising the three-time NBA champion’s move.
“I thought it was the perfect decision, the perfect move,” Durant said. “He did everything you’re supposed to do in Cleveland, the perfect next step for him. He’s kind of breaking down the barriers of what an NBA superstar is supposed to be. You feel like you’re supposed to just play it out in one spot. I think he did a good job of giving you different chapters. And it’s going to make his book more interesting when it’s done.”
Durant also weighed in on Golden State signing All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins, a move that drew a wide range of criticism from around the NBA.
“It was expected. Nobody likes a great thing. Greatness is rare, it’s different, and people don’t like different, so I get it,” Durant said. “But I think for DeMarcus I liked his approach, our approach to it, coming in, wanting it just to be about basketball, once you look at it that way, it works out perfectly.”
Check out more Warriors notes below:
- Ethan Strauss of The Athletic (subscription required) looked at how the Warriors’ current ownership group came into power and how the current team has been formed.
- Tim Kawakami of The Athletic (subscription required) writes about why the Warriors are not concerned about the possibility of having to pay upwards of $300MM for their roster due to luxury tax penalties. “I feel like we’ll do whatever we can to keep winning,” Warriors’ president Bob Myers said. “And I think the players will do whatever they can to keep winning — not knowing what that will exactly look like.”
“Durant’s comments are never far from”
I believe you are missing a noun after your preposition.
It reads better without “away” IMO. Not sure if that’s what you meant, you cut off “forefront”. Look I cut off the noun BEFORE the preposition and I like that too! What do I have against nouns and final periods
It’s starting to sound a lot like KD might leave GS after the 1st year in the new building…but what if they win these next 2 years and have 4 in a row? How do you leave that? You would have to go for 5, right?
If he is ever going to have legacy like Jordan or Kobe, he has to prove he can do it without being on the all star team.
Players know repeating is the toughest thing to do no matter what team they’re on. Personalities get in the way Etc and that’s why the Warriors are so special.
All the star players put their egos in the back seat and work together for the common good. That’s why it works, that’s why guys go there.
To be in Jordans League I think Durant and the Warriors have to win five in a row.
If you think about it. Even Jordan could have won the six and maybe the two he sat out but I don’t know.
The 2nd three in a row was accomplished because of the first three in a row. If you know what I mean. The drive and motivation was there to do it again.
If Jordan had stayed the two baseball years they may have one 6 in a row. Not sure about 8.
Anyway I think Durant and the Warriors need to win five in a row. That’s three more for elite status in NBA history, and I don’t think they can do it. It’s extremely tough.
The Bulls should have won the 1st year without Jordan, after the first 3 peat. That call the Knicks got was a joke. People would be looking at Scottie Pippen in a different way if he won that championship as the guy. I dont think Houston beats the Bulls if that were the series
AGREED!
Scottie doesn’t get enough credit for what he is/did
Well Kobe & MJ they weren’t exactly on lame teams. Specially Kobe he was just riding on Shaq for the 3 first rings, but who cares a ring is a ring & KD is way better player than Kobe was, even without any ring.
Yep you’re right. Kobe’s teams were stacked. Ron Harper Robert Horry Brian Grant Horace Grant some pretty great players just like the Warriors David West Shaun Livingston Andre Iguodala.
Shaq who was the most dominant player in the league, by far. Match him up with a all time great guard kobe and that is pretty stacked if you ask me. But that’s Jerry West working his magic.
Should check your facts about Kobe riding Shaq’s coat tails.
I remember when people hated on Kobe early in his career, and spoke about him like he was JR Smith
Who cares about the rapist? Kobe is nothing special. Should of been imprisoned. Money and fame bought his freedom. Kobe absolutely was carried by Shaq, the greatest center of all time. Kobe and Jordan shouldn’t ever be mentioned in the same breath. Durant doesn’t need to win anywhere but golden State. Impetuous children don’t decide his legacy.
I don’t hate greatness but I think Durant is confusing power for greatness here. The Warriors are a very talent heavy, powerful team but because they are so talented people will always have cause to question what they have had to overcome to call themselves “great.”
I think what will be funny is, if Durant leaves the Warriors still have a $25-30 million space open . See which one of the other superstar critics comes running as fast as they can to get a ring.
It’s just not fair!!!
