Sixers rookie guard Zhaire Smith suffered a left foot injury during a development camp in Las Vegas on Monday, the team announced this morning in a press release. According to the club, the 16th overall pick is headed back to Philadelphia for further evaluations on his injured foot.
The Sixers’ announcement doesn’t offer up a preliminary diagnosis and is short on specifics, so the severity of Smith’s foot injury isn’t clear. Training camps will begin in less than two months, but if Smith’s recovery is a short-term one, he could still be ready to go by the time the preseason begins.
Here are a few more odds and ends from across the Atlantic division:
- The Raptors‘ deal with Greg Monroe signals that the team appears to be “punting on the concept of elite room protection,” according to Eric Koreen of The Athletic, who suggests that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Meanwhile, Doug Smith of The Toronto Star views the decision to sign a veteran like Monroe over an untested developmental player as a reflection of the Raptors’ title aspirations.
- During their rebuilding process, the Nets have showed a knack for turning marginal players into reliable contributors. Net Income of NetsDaily wonders if Treveon Graham could become Brooklyn’s next project of that sort, following in the footsteps of players like Joe Harris and Spencer Dinwiddie.
- The 2018/19 season has yet to begin, but oddsmakers are already looking ahead to 2019 player movement. As NBC Sports Boston relays, the Celtics and Knicks have been installed by one bookmaker as the early favorites for Kyrie Irving‘s free agency.
Treveon Graham is going to be a dark horse for Most Improved this year
That will go to Myles Turner.
Kyrie Irving is overrated, he only looked good because he played under Brad.
Whatever. The Cavs wouldn’t have a title if not for Kyrie.
Blah blah blah, Lebron could have easily took the shot but he let Kyrie take it. Remember when the score was 89-86 and Bron hit that bomb to tie it up? Remember the block on Iguodala? Lebron iced the game.
Remember Kevin Love guarding Steph Curry at the 3 point line to keep him from getting a shot off as time expired? Without Kyrie and Love, Cleveland doesn’t win. If Draymond plays in game 6, Cleveland doesn’t win either. If Golden State had Kevin Durant, Cleveland doesn’t win.
Kyrie and Love are both trash and overrated.
That crossover speaks for itself, my friend.
I love Brad Stevens, but he didn’t get Kyrie drafted number one nor did he get Kyrie into all those finals games.
And lose all but one of them. Kyrie and Brad will be in the Finals next season. Boston can pay Irving $180MM and has the assets to acquire Jimmy Butler. The Knicks can only pay $139MM and don’t have the assets.
Irving 180 million? He’s not worth more than 120.
Kyrie is far from overrated. He’s one of the best ball handlers in the game. If not the best. So unless he was working out with Coach Stevens since he was 16 then ur statement is not valid
He’s a great one on one scorer and that’s it. Very limited defensively and a subpar playmaker, he makes no one better.
Kyrie is better than Magic ever was…….figured I stir the pot
You need to stay off the pot.
IStand by my original comment some time ago, when Irving was with the Cavs if LeBron had not carried him,he was nowhere.
Kyrie is a very good player, a star in fact, but not a superstar, for example last year he was around top 20-25 with the season he had, so he have to improve a lot, is a good scoring PG, but that is only secondary, the important thing is assists, & that is very poor, he just scratches 5 APG in his career & last season, that is poor for a PG that is meant to be elite, shows he is a shoot first past last guy, don’t like this type of PG, if you wanna score 20+PPG, then you need to give 8-10 APG. That is why I don’t think Kyrie tips the scales for a team aspiring for a ring, Boston should trade him before the summer, get the most for him & play Rozier, which is a cheaper version of him.
Yip , Kyrie’s play at the point obviously didn’t work well for Boston last year. What an abysmal season they had. Ship him out get em out here. U off your meds?
