In what has been an eventful offseason for Carmelo Anthony, the former Knicks star ended up signing a one-year with the Rockets. After a disappointing year with the Thunder, Anthony joins a Rockets team that came within one game of reaching the NBA Finals.
For Rockets point guard and Anthony’s close friend, Chris Paul, the signing is a good thing. Paul spoke to reporters – including Mark Berman of FOX 26 Houston – about the signing and expressed optimism for both sides.
“Melo, I’m excited about it,” Paul said. “That’s my brother. I’m not only happy for our team, but I’m happy for him. When you know a guy that well you’re able to push each other and motivate each other and that we both have a common goal, wanting to win a championship.”
In his first and only season with Oklahoma City, Anthony averaged 16.2 PPG and 5.8 RPG with a shooting line of .404/.357/.767. He never developed the chemistry that he and the Thunder hoped with Russell Westbrook and Paul George — and later complained of his role with OKC.
While Anthony’s role in Houston is unclear — with a bench role a possibility — his new teammates have spoken highly of the 10-time All-Star. Reigning NBA Most Valuable Player James Harden has given his approval for Anthony joining Houston to chase an NBA title.
You can putt lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.
As I said can’t see the fit of Melo in Houston, but neither saw it with CP3, having 2 ball dominant PG’s in a team I thought wouldn’t work but it did, so I will wait at least 20-25 games to see how they gel before passing judgement, but wouldn’t be surprised if they prove me wrong & it works.
I’m a huge CP3 fan and I like Harden and Melo..really want to see those guys get a ring and I was really pulling for the Rockets last year. Sucks that an injury stopped them from going to the Finals and if always seems to be that way with CP3..he’s always getting injured in the playoffs or a teammate of his is getting injured in the playoffs. Pretty terrible! With that being said..I just don’t see how they they or anyone else could think this team stands a chance unless the Warriors chemistry goes to crap or they have some major injuries because the Rockets got worse this offseason. I do like that they added Melo but you lost Ariza and Moute and both those guys were very solid players for the Rockets plus both were way better on D than Melo. I just don’t see the. Having a chance and I think they’ve gotten worse and t guys like Melo and CP3 are now one year older. Wish them luck and hope I’m wrong and I hope they do somehow get to the finals. If not I do hope somehow CP3 gets a ring before he retires even if to with another team
HOU GS
CP3 – Curry
Harden – Klay
Tucker – KD
Melo – Draymond
Capela – Bell then Cousins post a/s break
It should still be a competitive series but the rockets need CP3 for the entirety.
Lol @ anyone who thinks Houston is better minus Ariza but plus Melo.
GS has a cakewalk in 2018-19
Anyone who brings up melos 3 point shooting but fails to mention his garbage defensive skills just plain doesn’t know a thing about basketball. Yeah melo can shoot a 3…so? He literally stands there on defense as people go right around him to score. How much a player makes has zero merit on his skills on a court and debating his talent. It’s beyond stupid to say because such and such makes more than than you will ever see, you can’t have an opinion on him.
Melo is a terrible defender. That being said, he will likely guard Draymond and he is not an athletic 4. He’s more of a point forward so Melo will guard him at the top of the key and try to get in passing lanes. Boxing him out will also be key. Tucker guarding KD is crucial, as is Harden on Klay. CP3 should slow down Curry and CC can guard a hobbled DMC. I wouldn’t write off HOU just yet.
