The Clippers’ Patrick Beverley is at the top of the Suns’ list of potential point guards, but the teams haven’t been able to work out a price, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
In a video, Charania says L.A. is asking for a first-rounder in exchange for Beverley, but Phoenix has only been willing to offer second-round picks. Charania calls Beverley a “culture setter” and says the Suns “view him as a guy who could come in and play a very good complementary role to Devin Booker” similar to what he did alongside James Harden in Houston.
Phoenix has been without a starting-caliber point guard since trading Brandon Knight to the Rockets last month. The team has been exploring several options and has apparently focused on Beverley as the best fit.
The Clippers are willing to part with Beverley because they have a crowded backcourt and 15 players with guaranteed contracts. Beverley, whose $5,027,028 deal is non-guaranteed, received full medical clearance in June after undergoing microfracture and meniscus surgery on his knee last November. He played just 11 games in his first season after being acquired from the Rockets.
I don’t know if I would call Knight a starting-caliber point guard right now. The Clippers are dumb if they think they can get a 1st for a player that they might cut from their roster anyway.
Pat is nowhere near someone who might be cut from a roster lol
I didn’t mean that he isn’t any good. They won’t cut him for performance, but his deal is the only non-guaranteed deal and they have a surplus of guards. They may not have a choice but to cut him, barring any injuries or trades.
A top ten pick for a quality back up guard on an expiring deal coming off an injury…
I think he’s more than a quality backup. He is an all-defensive defender, has good 3pt shooting, and has some playmaking abilities. Probably still not worth a top 10 pick, but a distant pick from Suns or Clippers attach a second or two and it could be worth.
good 3-point shooting is a streeeetch.
For 15-16 and 16-17 he shot .4 and .382 with more than 4 attempts per game. When a lot of people shooting .35 being called a shooter, I would say Beverly is a good 3pt shooter.
If Phoenix thinks that they won’t be a lottery team then it’s a good move
Doesn’t have to be a pick for next year’s draft
it wouldn’t be unprotected i’m sure and it wouldn’t be this years
Beverley is a perfect fit there, just gotta not overpay for him and hope he stays healthy
Hope he goes to Phoenix , he is on my Fantasy bench…Gets more PT
they better settle for a couple 2nd round picks
Wouldn’t mind them throwing a first for Beverly and Bradley
That would be a solid trade for both teams.
Phoenix is delusional to think they getting a lock down guard who can shoot the 3 for 2nd rounders. Got give up something to get something.
Good choice. Send the first but get something besides Beverly. 2 2nds not enough. Suns’ pick probably won’t be as high as in 2018.
clipp’s can be top 10 in the west – land a chip and they’ll make some noise
IDK why the Suns would do such a thing (I guess they are a bad organization).
Why are they/should they rush for an expiring 30 y.o.? Could be a chance Clips cut him if they already have “15 players with guaranteed contracts.” Or they’ll just let him walk next year for nothing. Either way they should know they’re asking for too much (unless the pick heavily protected).
Maybe try developing a PG instead of wasting a pick on someone that probably doesn’t want to be there at this point in his career?
Then again they’re the Suns. Stupid is what they do and why they’ve been like this for so long.
I truly think that would b a good fit. He can give the appropriate skill set next to Booker and all the wings and Ayton. Not a score first guy. Good defender. Plus the Clippers r kind of in transition mode in the back court. They have Evans and SGA at point also Robinson and Thornwell at the 2. So I could c a trade involving Bradley and Beverly for one of the surplus of 3s and a protected top 5 first rounder. Maybe Devon Reed, Arthur and a protected first for Bradley and Beverly. Gives LA a young wing in reed to develop with those 4 I already mentioned and Arthur to match salaries and a first to build on that young group with
PHX would have to send more salary. Something like Chandler, Bender and a second for Bradley and Pat Bev which the suns shouldn’t do imo. Darrell Arthur and the MIL protected 1st is all I would give up for Pat Bev. The pick is unlikely to convey so idk if the Clips would do it.
