The Jimmy Butler trade market appears to be coming back to life after briefly going dormant early in the regular season. After word broke on Thursday that the Rockets have made the Timberwolves an offer that features four first-round picks, multiple Friday reports have suggested that the Heat are once again back in the mix.
The Five Reasons Sports Network first reported (via Twitter) that the Heat were engaged in Butler conversations, with Stefano Fusaro of ESPN subsequently confirming (via Twitter) that Miami and Minnesota have re-opened those discussions.
The Heat were the team most frequently linked with Butler during the preseason, with reports suggesting that they nearly reached an agreement with the Wolves that would have sent Butler to Miami in exchange for Josh Richardson, Dion Waiters, and a first-round pick. However, Minnesota reportedly asked for more, causing the deal to fall apart.
In the days leading up to the regular season, discussions between the Heat and Timberwolves temporarily came to an end, with Pat Riley reportedly telling his players that the roster would remain unchanged to start the season. However, just 10 days into the 2018/19 campaign, it appears the Heat are once again exploring what it would take to acquire Butler, perhaps spurred into action by the reports on Houston’s latest offer.
The Timberwolves are said to be showing “no inclination” to accept the Rockets’ offer, so it’s possible that the Heat remain the best bet to ultimately land the All-NBA swingman. The emergence of Rodney McGruder this fall could give Miami another intriguing trade chip or could increase the club’s willingness to surrender Richardson.
When will this end? Seriously. How many people truly care at this point? If he is such a cancer like everyone says in Minni then this needs to be finished ASAP.
My god bruh just take Josh and move on.
I keep thinking that Minny is crazy, but it only takes two teams to drive up a bidding war, and it only takes one team to overpay and make this a big win.
I just doubt the ability of the current leadership structure to make a wise decision.
Another report said the last Miami offer was Richardson, Olynyk, and a 1st. They then asks for the medical reports. Then Minnesota asked for more picks. I wonder if Butler has a breaking point?
This offer is mentioned in today’s Miami Sun Sentinel.
According to Amico Hoops, Glen Taylor has removed Thibs from trade discussions and told him to focus on coaching. He needs to do that permanently.
Minneapolis Star Tribune says Butler is questionable tonight because of illness. Says they are jokingly saying he’s being traded.
James Johnson, Kelly Olynyk, Dion Waiters, 2019 unprotected 1st round pick for Butler and Dieng
No Richardson, no deal.
Then no deal lol
I’ve said it before, and i’ll say it again I’d explore Whiteside and Waiters for Butler and Dieng. Anything with Richardson or Bam is a deal breaker for me
I would say take the rockets offer, but they will be low first round picks
The first couple definitely should be, but who knows with the 2023 and 2025 picks. A lot can happen in 5-7 years in the NBA. 7 years ago, the Warriors were one of the worst teams in the league and the Bulls were one of the best. They should definitely take that offer if there is no protection.
i hope they dont make the mistake of trading Josh, he is the only untochouble there, he’ll bebetter than Butler at the end. trade everyone else but him please
I am pretty certain Miami has already made a silly offer like that (Johnson, Olynyk, Waiters) and the Wolves of course either laughed or hung up the phone.
It’s only a silly offer for someone that has never seen anyone play basketball, and doesnt understand the contract situations of Butler and Dieng. That trade works for Minnesota for multiple reasons
Trying to figure out how Johnson, Olynyk and Waiters, along with a 1st for Butler and Dieng works for the Wolves. This gives the Wolves 3 bad contracts for 3 years, when they only give up 1. The Wolves would be sitting on $40 million with that, instead of the $17 if they kept Dieng. Then just a 1st for Butler, when he said he would like to go to Miami? This is a complete joke of a trade idea…unless you are a Miami fan.
James Johnson plays the 4 next to KAT, and adds toughness and most importantly, defense. Minnesota was interested in him when he was a free agent. Olynyk plays the 5 off the bench, and gives them shooting they need, and he can make plays for them at times as well. Waiters can be the starting 2 guard once he is healthy, or he can be a backup PG, and he could theoretically play PG if they decide to move on from Teague. These guys would add depth they need, and it matches salaries. And then theyd get the Heats 1st round pick. That’s for 1 year of Butler, and the Heat would also take on Diengs contract which has a lot of negative value right now, with Taj Gibson making him non existant for them, and having 3 years left on it
Why should any team give up multiple assets, or someone with trade value like Richardson on his contract, for 1 year of Butler, who has demanded a trade and made it an issue, especially when Minnesota also wants that team to take back Diengs contract? That’s good value. 3 rotation players that fill needs and a 1st round pick, while also getting rid of a contract for a player that has been nonexistent since Taj Gibson got there. That’s also more than they gave up by the way
Again, you need to do a better job of reading the news. It’s been all over the internet that Minnesota wants Richardson, and Miami has offered him. You might not like it, but I think it’s up to Pat Riley and Glen Taylor.
And he was taken off the table when they stupidly didnt take the deal. Now the price has changed
And just b/c it was reported that was the offer, it doesnt make it true. That’s why I continue to refer to them as reported offers. Media leaks is a big part of this, if you didnt realize it. Minnesota is trying to improve its offers.
You have a problem with understanding. You need to better understand how it works. Josh Richardson plays the same position as Butler and has potential. Minnesota is looking for equal value in trades. These reporters get their information from players, execs, etc, They aren’t shooting from the hip like you. If Minnesota says they won’t accept a trade without Richardson, they won’t. Riley and Thibs don’t read blog sites to get advice in trades. If this trade is made, it will at least include Richardson.
The whole point of trading for butler would be to pair him and Richardson on the wing. Richardson is on one of the best value contracts in the NBA. There is no way he should be included in a Butler deal. And he wont be
Lol @ equal value for a guy with less than a year before free agency, and having demanded a trade, and made a scene at practice, etc. San Antonio got bodied by Toronto in that trade lol
Ptn-1.The understanding problem is yours. That’s why you rely on talking head opinion.
2.Optimally, Butler=G, Richardson=F. That’s why Luke mentions the emergence of Macgruder.
3.MIN like anyone else wants more than equal, and there is more than Richardson that is desirable.
5.Tired of this.
Maybe get a 72 hour window to sign him to extension before Trade happens.
thibs is gone by xmass
Hope So. !!!!!
At this point been a Heat fan, I will not give them Richardson, not even 1 for 1. Timbs have had really good deals, and time to think about it, they’re just f***** around with the Heat and Rockets. At the end they are going to get nothing for him when he hits free agency.
