Stephen Curry and DeMarcus Cousins won’t be suspended for leaving the bench area during Friday’s preseason finale, writes Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Both players stepped onto the court during a skirmish between Quinn Cook and the Lakers’ Lance Stephenson, but the NBA office ruled that the incident didn’t rise to the level of an altercation.
Curry could have been forced to sit out the season opener Tuesday night against the Thunder, while Cousins’ suspension would have taken effect once he returns from an Achilles injury.
The play happened in the fourth quarter when Cook committed a hard foul on Stephenson, who was driving to the basket. Stephenson swung his right arm in retaliation, and officials and players stepped in to break them up.
Curry and Cousins both walked onto the court, but assistant coach Jarron Collins quickly moved them back to the bench area.
If it was Lance that left the bench instead of Steph or Boogie they would’ve been suspended
You earn your reputation.
Benefit of the doubt when exemplary conduct has been the norm.
You’re probably right A Thug Like Stevenson would have been suspended one game. I mean just look at that particular play, with swinging his elbow toward a guy that fouled him. His reputation is again Justified. No surprises here in Life or in the NBA.
But no punishment for Stephenson for the Elbow and no suspension for those Crossing the out-of-bounds line onto the court. Fine.
Gary! How ya doin my friend?
Everything is fantastic. How about yourself?
You earn your reputation. I’d argue that CJ McCullom has a great reputation. A total of 4 flagrant fouls, 8 technical fouls and no ejections in 5 years. Where as Cousins has 118 technicals, 6 flagrant fouls, 13 ejections and has been suspended for 49 games in 9 years.
McCullon was suspended for 1 game. In this exact. same. situation. A pre-season altercation. He jumped up from the bench, took one step towards the court, and then immediately sat down. He did not “further the altercation” in anyway, yet he was suspended for the season opener.
The only difference in this situation is that the Blazers season opener was against the Suns, and not a nationally televised game.
Boogie isn’t even going to play in the season opener. But, if you suspend Boogie, you have to suspend Curry. It’s very clear how the NBA assess things.
Pretty rude, to be suspended for being outstanding instead of behindstanding.
Great point.
Preferred treatme. Bad look for NBA
How about good look for the NBA – not suspending players who don’t deserve to be suspended.
Are you saying Stevenson should have been suspended for throwing that elbow?
Definitely not, the situation was diffused.
It’s Stephenson.
Whaaaa…..you’re not gonna suspend steph when they play the thunder game 1? Surely you jest NBA.
Big surprise they’re not suspending all stars
