As expected, the three players at the forefront of the scuffle that broke out in last night’s game between the Rockets and Lakers have received suspensions. Adrian Wojnarowski has reported (via Twitter) that Brandon Ingram will be suspended for four games, Rajon Rondo three games and that Chris Paul will sit for two games.
As a result of these suspensions, Ingram and Rondo will miss the Lakers’ upcoming games against the Spurs, Suns and Nuggets (with Ingram missing another contest against the Spurs later in the week). Meanwhile, Paul will sit out games against the Clippers and Jazz before returning to action.
Financially speaking, Bobby Marks of ESPN has reported (Twitter link) that Ingram will lose $158,816 for his four game suspension, Rondo will lose $186,207 for his three missed games and Paul will miss out on $491,782 for the two games he will be suspended for. The financial penalties are based on total salary divided by 145 for each game of the suspension.
Marks also notes that the Rockets will receive a $245,891 credit (half of Paul’s lost salary) that will be applied to their luxury tax at the end of the season.
These suspensions were inevitable, as all three players played key roles in the back-and-forth late in the fourth quarter of last night’s game.
Not sure how Paul got the least amount of games. Oh wait..he’s the biggest star player out of all 3..people pay to see him and Harden ball together..makes total sense now.
Probably because Ingram started the fight and the Lakers are punks in general?
Rondo threw the first punch at Paul.
Wasn’t it funny how LeBron was bearhuuging CP3 to try and calm him down, but nobody was trying to stop Rondo? This wasn’t Rondo’s first rodeo. Lonzo was holding back Ingram.
See USA Today, they have 16 photos.
USA Today has the video and 16 photos. The Laker guys will make up their own story, so they don’t need to see them. Also has Carmelo article saying he thought they would get 10-15 game suspensions. He checked on CP3 before todays game to make sure he was ok.
But know that Im so so on Rondo and can’t stand Chris Paul. I’m just looking at what happened.
I’m a warrior fan but I love what the Lakers have done with the roster. Picking up guys that get under your skin.
Can’t wait to see the playoffs Lakers Warriors or Lakers Rockets. If the Lakers can make the playoffs that is. Won’t be easy but LeBron can do it.
The Warriors backcourt destroyed the Cavs backcourt the last 2 years. The Warriors or Rockets backcourt would destroy the Lakers backcourt.
If you get “The Athletic,” it shows the spit coming from Rondo’s mouth. They have the official video from the scorers table that the NBA saw.
Yeah Rondo is kind of a punk. That’s kind of blow character move when you spit on someone.
Three for Rondo yet only two for Paul…. explain!
Rondo only threw a punch because Paul attempted to eye gauge him, was he ment to just walk away…. pathetic
I mean if you spit on me I will do something about it also.
Melo spit on Paul. Lol
The league spat on the Lakers!
Nice “speling”
Yes! Harden walked away after being shoved by Ingram, Rondo should have too. They’re grown men getting paid a lot of money to be professionals.
He spit on CP3. LeBron had CP3 in a bear hug trying to protect his best friend when he did it.
Lol paul started the whole thing yet gets fewest games lol. League is flawed.
I’m a Lakers fan and I disagree..Ingram started it by pushing Harden but I do agree the league is flawed big time! I also don’t blame Ingram for starting this. From what Lance Stephenson said, they were pushing Ingram around, calling him soft and skronny and basically picking on him all game and he had enough of it. I love the fact that he cane rushing in to stick up for Rondo also while others just stood around or walked away like Ball who never seems to really have his teams back when it comes to these things.
Got me, I tried to look up “skronny”. FYI it’s “scrawny”!
I think they all got too much but appeals will likely reduce it.
CP got the least because he did the least in the segment that would be reviewed.
Based on the film I am dubious about both the spitting and the eye-gouging. It will be about punches thrown and distance travelled, keeping it simple. Doesn’t matter, they’re all rich enough.
CP3 didn’t play today. I don’t know if it was because of the suspension. The Rockets play just as well with Eric Gordon. I’ll bet the Rockets can’t afford to resign him. He’s from Indianapolis and the Pacers have tried to get him before. Shumpert had 26 tonight playing small forward tonight against OKC.
That’s what I’m talkinbout!
Gordon may be the type that gets grumpy and starts losing his brightness and edge after too many starting minutes.
But if they get Butler, I wonder about the fit with CPaul. More drama.
Thronson5 you don’t blame Ingram for starting such a mess because the other players were being mean to him? you love the fact that he ran into the pile to sucker punch players from behind? Pathetic. In my opinion Ingram should have been suspended 10 games. You didn’t see LBJ or Harden punching people, they were trying to restore peace and de-escalate the situation. That’s what grown men do.
Ingram clearly started it. I don’t think Rondo deserved that much of a suspension, but Ingram’s seems fair. If I’m Houston, I’m not messing with him again though haha.
Next time they meet, I guarantee you the Rockets won’t back down from Ingram.
They will all appeal and will all be reduced by a game…..
I’m sure you’re right but Paul’s should be held up. I agree Ingram should be reduced to 3 and Rondo to 2 but Paul should stay where is. I mean he should really get 3 along with Ingram but they won’t add to it. This league is a joke. They completely cater to their stars like Paul.
Stop being such a homer. Ingram clearly started everything, Rondo escalated it, and Ingram came running back for a cheap shot. Paul didn’t do anything until Rondo spit on him.
CP3 is the NBA players rep. His vice president LeBron, stepped in to get him out of it and walked him to the sidelines with his arm around him. I think Rondo did spit on CP3. Ingram clearly started it and got a technical right away for shoving CP3 in the back hard.
Ingram shoved Harden, and not in the back. At least watch the video if you are going to comment on these things.
Ok I’m wrong, it was Harden. He shoved him in the back. Ingram started it. You guys had to love LeBron consoling CP3, I did. I watched the video last night after the game. It’s viral on the internet. It is a waste of time posting you Laker fans. You only believe what you want to believe. I can’t wait until next summer gets here to see who you get in free agency. LOL
$491,782!? Ouch.
Chris Paul should have been for 3 games same as Rondo. The other two suspensions seem fair.
Ingram should’ve gotten 5 games. Not trying to punish the Lakers but but was the instigator and threw a punch in the thing with more intent than Paul or rondo (he had to run about 15 feet to do so).
LeBron said he recruited the misfits because he said he wanted some guys who will fight. He just forgot to tell them not with my union boss and best friend. Carmelo said it best. We don’t spit on players. Don’t mess with the Banana Boat crew.
For Luke. The Athletic only covers Purdue basketball, but not football. Can you tell the writers to give the Boilermaker football team some love? After starting 0-3 (all 3 losses in the last minute), Purdue beat a ranked Boston College, and beat Ohio State 49-20 this past weekend. The Athletic is well worth $10 a month.
Cliff Paul reminds me of Isaiah Thomas.
He got what he deserved.
I’m sure Blake is laughing now!
The Athletic has “The Official” video of the fight and you can clearly see Rondo spitting in CP3’s face. “You can see the spit.”
Rondo gets one more game. Thats fine just like that one more ring he has over Paul. Paul can use all the rest he can get. He’s never going to play 82 and never going to be healthy for playoffs. Soo really who cares. Use to love Paul until he cried his way out of New Orleans and turned the clippers into the most talented first round exit fanatics ever
Rondo spit in CP3’s face is why the extra game. The NBA takes that more serious than the Laker fans do.
The refs face had me dying
