While Kyrie Irving is currently in his prime, the Celtics‘ All-Star point guard does not see himself playing at an advanced age, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps writes.
“Once I’m done with this, hopefully in my early to mid-30s, I’m done with this,” Irving said.
Irving, 26, is in the midst of another characteristically strong season for Boston. In 18 games, he’s averaging 21.9 PPG and 6.2 APG as the Celtics, currently, at 10-9, try to get on a consistent winning streak. However, as Irving reaches free agency this summer, he’s also looking toward his future in the game.
“I love basketball itself,” Irving said. “But everything that comes with it? It doesn’t really matter to me, in terms of my life. I enjoy the game, I enjoy being with my teammates, playing every single day. Being an NBA player, this is a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. I think everything else that comes with it doesn’t hold the same stature it once did.”

- While there exists a general belief that Pelicans’ All-Star Anthony Davis will end up with the Lakers down the road, the situation is a fluid one, Chris Sheridan of Get More Sports writes. Davis has reportedly expanded his personal list of preferred destinations to include the Knicks, Sixers, Celtics and Pelicans. And there are a number of indications that Boston could be the favorite, Sheridan adds.
- As the controversy surrounding Markelle Fultz continues, including a new report he’d prefer to get a fresh start somewhere else, Shane Rhodes of Basketball Insiders looks at possible destinations. The Nets, Suns, Knicks and Heat are all teams that could have interest and a role for Fultz if the Sixers were to entertain offers.
- Steve Popper of Newsday looks at the Knicks‘ standing as the team prepares to recruit free agents, detailing why the team may not be an attractive destination.
Irving is only 26, not 28.
Pretty important detail that’s incorrectly reported. Wow
28 is the new 26
Davis and Embiid on the Sixers lol okay let’s go. I’d give up Fultz, Amir, Chandler to get the money right. Now for assets, its Miami Pick, Their 2019 1st and probably they’ll want Zhaire.
Lol!!! Every team in the league can make a better offer than that. Here’s three guys that couldn’t crack ANY team’s starting lineup, an unproven rookie, a low pick next year and pick that might be great (or low again) in 3 years. No trade for Davis doesn’t give up at least 1 of Butler or Simmons
You’re dreaming if you think someone is going to give up tangible assets. They’ll be more likely to offer more picks than anything else. Celtics wont even offer up Brown or Tatum. So get real with Butler or Simmons. Drinking too much down there in NOLA.
I’m a Celtics fan. We’d hand over Brown, Rozier, and all 4 of our ‘19 picks for AD. That would massively trump anything Philly can offer if Simmons isn’t included (I’d say “or Embiid” but that’s not worth it)
Your GM isnt dling the deal, doesnt matter if a fan would or would not.
Ben Simmons, TJ McConnell, unprotected Suns pick for AD.
Uhhh who’s your PG then, Fultz?
Yeah, nice trade. SMH
Let’s be realistic, there’s zero chance the Sixers would ever trade Fultz to the Knicks, the Nets, or the Celtics. Zero. The only thing that was a bigger waste of time than somebody writing about it was me spending the time reading about it.
Philly would be lucky to get a box of nets for Fultz at this point.
At least they can use the nets.
Lakers won’t trade for AD, they seem to think they can sign everyone when they are free agents even though that doesn’t really work our besides LeBron. Would love if they traded for AD but I just highly doubt it.
A fresh what?
Haircut?
Watermelon?
Coat of paint on his vehicle?
A fresh somewhere else it says it right in the article
“there is a lot of indications”
Mark meant start
Kyrie as always is just saying silly things so people takes note of him (flat earth)… I remember Shaq said he would be done by age 32, he played until 40.
I can see AD staying at NOLA, or gonna Lakers, Boston or even Philly (surely he would love to play with Simmons & Embid, who wouldn’t, right?), but Knicks… that must be a joke, right? SMH
I would like to keep Fultz, but maybe is time for him to go to a new place, of those teams I would like Phoenix, maybe Bridges or Jackson straight up for him… no need for anything else, maybe a 2nd for Bridges.
Miami, New York & Brooklyn have got nothing that can be useful for Philly
Fultz would just be salary filler in a Mikal trade. Bridges is already average and is cheap for 4 years.
Fultz for Josh J is interesting as they both have had rough starts and Suns have a lot of forwards and a hole at PG. Still have to include Korkmaz for matching.
I think it’s odd that the Brow has a shortlist at all. Dubious
I never really trust these “shortlists” for star players, like they’re staying up every night making pro and con lists for all 30 teams, and then letting all their friends now the new order.
Fultz makes more than Jackson, but their salaries would match up for a trade. It would be a 2017 1st/4th pick swap. 6ers need the deal more than Phoenix though, so they might have to tempt them with a 2nd rd’r thrown into the deal.
brow wants a dynasty than boston’s the best fit, if he wants hollywood lights he’ll choose los angelas – everything else is a dead end road
Celtics can’t trade for him this year anyway with the Rose rule but thanks for your insight Sheridan. Do your homework. Even money lmao try zero chance
