The Cavaliers have been in touch with the Sixers to inquire about the availability of former No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz, league sources tell Sam Amico of AmicoHoops.net.
While the Sixers have said publicly that they remain committed to Fultz, and agent Raymond Brothers has dismissed reports suggesting that his client would prefer to be traded, there continue to be whispers that Philadelphia may be ready to move on from the 20-year-old and has contemplated the idea of a deal — Keith Pompey of Philly.com reported as much over the weekend.
At the moment, the Sixers are waiting for Fultz to visit a specialist in New York, who will assess the health of his shoulder and wrist. The second-year guard was removed from Philadelphia’s starting lineup following the team’s acquisition of Jimmy Butler and then was pulled from the rotation altogether after Brothers advised him to see a specialist. His ability to return to action may hinge on the results of that evaluation.
As for the Cavaliers, they used their 2018 lottery pick on Collin Sexton, envisioning him as their point guard of the future. Still, as they prepare to enter a rebuilding phase, it makes sense for them to check in on a player like Fultz, who was considered an elite prospect less than a year and a half ago. Despite his positional overlap with Sexton, Fultz might be a worthwhile gamble if Cleveland could get him at a discount.
It’s also worth noting that Philadelphia was linked to Kyle Korver in the offseason and his salary would match Fultz’s in a potential deal. However, I’d be surprised if the 76ers were willing to trade in their former No. 1 pick for a fairly one-dimensional 37-year-old sharpshooter.
Winning championships trumps all
So in your opinion, Robert Horry is a better power forward than Karl Malone?
i think the point was that fultz for korver would be a good trade if they can win a title. i tend to agree.
Korver for Fultz. Even with his baggage I gotta say no. Korver wont help us get by Boston or Toronto. Legs are cooked. Need someone at least able to defend too.
Add in an unprotected 2nd which will be top 35 and Frye and it could be considered.
Fultz is an exceptional playmaker and has a 6’10 wingspan.
He’s terrible
An exceptional playmaker may be going to an extreme Dionis. Regardless, whether true or not, there are a lot of things to dislike about this kid’s game and personality. Korver by himself is not enough to get him yet, but the Sixers will get nowhere close to value for an ex number 1 pick.
Fultz, Wilson chandler, muscala for Kevin love
I think Love gets more than that – PICKS. But could swap Tristan Thompson in for Love – Fultz, Chandler, Muscala (or Korkmaz) for Korver and Thompson. That’s a win-now move for PHI
Love’s extension is pretty bad. Thompson is trash. I’ve floated that same trade as soon as they made the Butler move. It makes sense to get a stretch 4. But if he is pushing back his return that’s not good.
TT has been more engaged and his old self since Smith left, in that he can disrupt a game on the boards but still can’t shoot. If only he could. . . He can get open, but why try.
The thing is, Fultz is not a thing. TT, Korver, Muscala, Chandler, Love, all are.
Tristan’s contract is very bad too. The Cavs are full of inflated terrible extensions because Bron wanted them, and then he jets town. What a guy….
I’d take Saxton for Fultz and a second rounder or two if I’m the Sixers.
I bet you would, but no way that’s happening. Fultz has little value right now
Why on earth would the Cavs trade Sexton?
Sexton has such more value than Fultz. It’s not even close.
Flip it, the picks would be going the other way
Fultz is toast… get Korver for him now if Cavs would do it. There’s no regular season or playoff game situation in the next 20 months where you’d rather Fultz catching a pass wide open from 0-25ft than Korver. Or have him at the free-throw line instead of Korver. No brainer for PHI if the Cavs are willing.
That’s true but there’s also no game in the next 20 months where you’d rather have Kyle korver running an offense. That doesn’t mean they have the same trade value.
If they’re fortunate enough to be playing after May 10, with Simmons, McConnell, and Butler on the roster, they’d need Korver’s jumpshot a HELLUVA LOT more than they’d need Fultz’s ballhandling. And, I like Fultz, but I’m realistic as to what his window is for the next (mentioned) 20 months.
Send them JR Blunt for Fultz straight up.
Lol. A burnout for a burned up head case. Seems like a good deal.
Would Cleveland ever consider 2019 1st for fultz, straight up (please don’t brutalize me – it’s a legit question)?
Nah
No
They wouldn’t at all. Cleveland has a good chance for a top 3 pick in a loaded draft. Fultz has very little if any trade value. He’s just a mess and shoots like a 3rd grade girl.
No, he’s probably worth closer to a 2nd/late 1st right now
Korver+future 2nd for Fultz makes sense, but that would be Philly really giving up on a 1.1 not far after drafting him.
And to think, they traded up for Fultz
Philly needs to let their ego and accept at least for them, Fultz may be a bust and give him a chance to resuscitate his career. Surprised Phoenix isn’t interested.
I’m surprised every single team in the league isn’t interested. He’s a former #1 pick with a ton of upside. I think given the right team and the right system, he could feel more free to come out of his mental shell and start playing like we’ve seen him play in college. His value may have taken a hit, but I don’t think it’s as big a hit as many think.
I think it depends the team need. I could see Fultz playing the 2 although I dont know if hes able. Pairing him with Booker could be something as well as him and Sexton. Just think if he stays in Philly, he’ll be label a bust. Going elsewhere could save him like D Russell to the Nets did for his career.
Yes but Russell could play before he went to NJ.
And Russell showed way more flashes of talent than Fultz has before he was dealt.
Have you seen him shoot? He literally shoots like an elementary school girl. I guess it may be able to be fixed somewhat, but it’s such form I don’t see it. He’s a mess and he’s actually kind of expensive for a major project.
Fultz for Korver, George Hill and 2-2nd rounders. Call it 2020&2022 I think would work.
It might work for Sixers but not for the cavs.
Well try it in a trade checker and see. (It won’t.)
The Cavs should not be interested. Maybe they just wanted an excuse to probe Philly about a Korver trade.
Maxi Kleber & JJ Barea for Fultz.
Philly gets an experienced PG who *can* run an office and an energy, stretch-4/5 who can defend.
Dallas gets a chance to have 2 top-grade PG on the floor at all times. Rick’s wet dreams…
