Fresh off of a blockbuster deal that brought in Jimmy Butler, the Sixers are eyeing moves that will add shooting to a roster depleted of it.
Philadelphia remains “highly” interested in Kyle Korver, as Marc Stein writes in his weekly newsletter for The New York Times. Stein notes that it will be difficult for Philadelphia to acquire Korver now that Jerryd Bayless is no longer on the team. Bayless, who is on an expiring contract worth $8.6MM, was sent to Minnesota in the Butler deal.
Korver signed a three-year, $22MM contract with the Cavaliers during the summer of 2017. LeBron James has since left The Land, making him an awkward fit on a rebuilding squad.
Philadelphia still has options, as a package of Mike Muscala and Zhaire Smith would financially work for a Korver trade. With Muscala seeing meaningful minutes this year, it’s hard to see the Sixers including him or their promising 2018 first-rounder in a deal for the 37-year-old.
Swapping Markelle Fultz for Korver would also work financially, though the team’s front office appears to be taking a patient approach with the former No. 1 overall pick, which makes a Fultz trade unlikely at the moment.
neither trade we not trading nobody for Korver, we will just wait for him to get bought out
I can see a three team trade happening.
Philly – Korver
Cavs – 3rd team option
3rd team – Fultz
Pheonix would be an ideal partner, seeing they are in need of a pg
I don’t see Philly getting rid of Fultz before the end of the year at least. They’re still high on the kid and it’s not like he’s gonna get a ton of mins and touches playing with Ben Simmons and two other scoring all stars.
Fultz may be developing poorly but that doesn’t mean trade him for Kyle Korver….
Exactly, why not trade him for Vince Carter if we’re giving him away for old former All Stars.
Fultz for Korver? Lol… okay Korver is almost cooked he’s just a 3pt shooter at this stage with worse D than Harden.
They have to get a better and younger piece for Fultz then Korver.
Trust the process part 2…. trade away all those players from trust the process part 1
My thoughts exactly, what an overrated process ‘The Process’ has proven to be.
Hovering around 40 wins, grabbing the 6-8 seed in playoffs, getting bounced in the 1st round, and picking outside of the lottery in the draft year after year. Yeah, no reason to tear it down. As a Sixers fan it was tough to endure the rebuild. I think they have missed on more draft picks than they hit, with the two big hits (Embiid & Simmons) being no brainers when they were picked. Even with a subpar draft history, and some questionable FA signings, they are still in a better position now and moving forward than a majority of teams in the league. That “overrated process” you refer to? I would hope, if they had to do it all over again, that they would approach it the same way (only not allow the commissioner’s office to force Hinkie out).
The process = Embiid, Simmons and collecting assets for another star. Process worked out pretty well so far.
Already stated, but cannot state enough how off base your assessment is. The process = Embiid, Simmons & now Butler with money to land a Klay Thompson or Kawaii Leonard next offseason is very far from overrated.
Korver isn’t really worth any of those guys in the long run, and Jimmy isn’t going to win them a title this year. Not worth giving up Smith or Fultz for a couple 3s a game.
They need a third team imo. Get washington to give up beal, then they can give up reddick, fultz and somebody else to get beal, and korver.
I obv know this wouldnt be the actual trade but something in this manner
If you wanted to make it really interesting… you make a deal January 23rd for Kevin Love, if he is healthy.
Chandler + Muscala + TJ for Love. I assume draft pick compensation will be included someway.
I think you’d have to give up more for Kemba Walker, D’Angelo Russell, Beal.
You can’t be serious! Three players for Love? He is overrated! I’ll keep Chandler, MM, and TJ!!!
Salary matching. If we are talking best stretch-big its Kevin Love at the top. You wouldnt take Embiid, Love, Butler. Redick, and Simmons?
As Stephen A says, put down the weeed.
That lineup can beat GSW.
You fill the roster spots with BOs.
Korver isn’t worth any of those guys, Muscala, Zhaire or Fultz… really he only shoots. JJ is sooo much better than him, Philly might need shooting but the shooter needs to do more than just shoot, defend & help the team in other ways, which Korver doesn’t at all, if he comes in the buy out, great, otherwise Philly doesn’t need him at all.
Seriously, a #16 overall pick rookie and a stretch 4 for a 37 year old one dimensional player? The possible trade scenarios in this article are horrendous.
I would think any contender would have interest in Korver. But the price should be no more than an expiring deal and a 2nd rounder or two. Fultz and Smith are not guys you use for matching contracts. You find a third team before you do that. It’s really a bit early as well. Dec 15 and Jan 15, and team performance, will shape better trade markets.
