The Pelicans have been informed that Anthony Davis won’t sign a contract extension with the team and he’d prefer to be traded.
“Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship,” Davis’ agent Rich Paul tells Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com. “Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that’s the reason for informing them of this decision now. That’s in the best interests of both Anthony’s and the organization’s future.”
According to Wojnarowski, New Orleans has no desire to move Davis before this year’s trade deadline. The majority of NBA teams are expected to check in with the Pelicans.
The Celtics won’t be able to make a deal for Davis before the deadline, as they are restricted by the Rose Rule. Teams can only roster one player with that kind of provision and Kyrie Irving‘s deal qualifies. Irving becomes a free agent on July 1 and the Celtics could re-sign the point guard and agree to a trade for Davis, though the transaction couldn’t be completed until that date.
The Lakers are determined to acquire Davis, sources tell Woj. Los Angeles has an opportunity to pursue a deal while Boston, arguably the franchise with the greatest trade assets, is forced to sit on the sidelines. If Los Angeles is going to put together a package for Davis, it will start with Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ivica Zubac and a future No. 1 pick, sources tell Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
Here we go…
Go get him Lakers. Anyone but Kuz and it’s a deal
Alright cool Lebron for AD
Deal
Why would N.O. trade Davis without getting a star like Kuzma back? They wouldn’t because many teams could out offer the Lakers without Kuzma part of the deal.
Wrong. Anyone but Ball.
Ingram, kuz, Zubac, picks.
Zo don’t leave. You don’t trade a 21 year old Jason Kidd even if u getting Hakeem Olajuwan.
Plus Zo is hurt. Can’t trade em.
Wow same cost I thought it would be. Kuzma would be the player N.O. would ant over anyone on LA. The draft picks will not be lottery picks so they don’t have much weight.
The draft is fixed so you know they’re Gunna be lottery picks
this isnt 2k LOL. they can still trade ball even if he is hurt
Problem is his value is not very high. So far he is just a average player in the NBA not even close to being a all star. LA could not get any value for him.
Thanks. Wasn’t aware. Ik can’t trade people on the DL in baseball..
But to be fair they would have less interest in someone hurt
Of course Kuz is on the table. Everyone not named lebron is available in an AD trade… though I do agree that I would rather give ingraham and ball.
I’d imagine New Orleans would want to send him to the East so they don’t help build another Super Team in the West. Boston, Toronto, Indiana, and Washington should all be involved. Wouldn’t be shocked to see Charlotte make some offers to get a big name and clear some of the big salaries on their books, doubtful he gets there though.
i dont think you did any research on what teams could take him on but your a little off if you think washington can afford to sign anyone, let alone anthony davis. plus he is a free agent this summer so i think new orleans doesnt care where he goes, just wants the best return. 2 super teams in the same conference is probably better than 1 in each conference by the way.
He’s a free agent after the 2020 season not this year
free agent in 2020, eligible to sign max extension this summer
I don’t think it will matter because they know they aren’t going to be competing for at least 4-5 years. Unless they get really lucky.
He will be a clipper.
Bahahaha
Ben Simmons, Fultz and the MIA 1st and future 1st’s for AD!
There’s no way Philly gives up that much. This guy has to be viewed as a rental unless he gets traded to the Lakers. No team in their right mind gives up that kind of package unless AD signs an extension with him. I think we all know he wouldn’t sign to stay in Philly
Agree with you on that’s way too much to give up on Philly’s end. As to his desire to play in Philly, they are one of about 4 teams that were listed as places he wanted to be traded to (fwiw).
I’d swap out Butler for Simmons. Ben will learn to shoot at some point. AD & the Process with Simmons dishing & JJ shooting. That would be interesting.
Butler is a free agent after this season as well.
Pretty sure Embiid and AD would be a terrible combo
I don’t think it’s too much to give up if you know he will re-sign. It’s a fair deal, maybe even one-sided for sixers.
You don’t think AD would want to play with Embiid and Butler? Don’t know what to say about that!
Way too much egos without a decent playmaker. Butler will demand the ball. Embiid will demand the ball. AD will miss out, become frustrated and besides, Embiid is injury prone so it’ll be like NO all over again
South of the best young talent in the pics to go get them.
Celtics have the best young talent and the picks to get him. I bet the Pelicans wait until the summer and the Cs can get involved.
Lakers can get AD without sending a big contract back to NO.
If Celtics want him, they gotta give up Tatum… No ifs ands or buts
Fire up the NBA Trade Machine!
Take Boston out of the equation if we’re talking Deadline deals. Unless they want to trade Kyrie 1st.
LA is the favorite. Anyone outside of LA will need a guarantee he’s going to resign. Otherwise this is a rental.
Based on “Destination” Dark Horse is NYK if they include an unprotected 2019. Miami Heat have pieces that could build a trade or at least a 3-team trade. Windhorst literally just said this after I typed it lmao.
davis’s agent just happens to be lebron james klutch sports – of course there’s no collusion if he goes there
Correct, because that’s not how collusion works
Josh Richardson, Bam Adebayo, Kelly Olynyk,Rodney Mcgruder, 2019, 2023 1st round picks and rights to swap 2020 1st rounder for AD? Not sure that’s enough…Boston is kind of locked out of this for now, unless they move Kyrie in the deal
That is so terrible lol
In what way
In offseason:
AD and Moore for Hayward Rozier Brown Clips first Kings first and C’s 2021 lottery protected first
Rozier will be a restricted free agent so I don’t think they can trade him this summer unless it’s a sign and trade
Hayward and Horford are useless to a rebuilding team and Rozier is RFA so anyone can bid, which actually lowers the Celtics ability to get a top star like AD as a lot of their assets aren’t helpful to a team that needs young yours that can become stars in 3-5 years.
To have the money for third star they would need to include Ball and Ingram as they are paid the 2nd and 3rd most on the team, I think two future firsts with those two and a little filler would get it done. Davies don’t want to be in NO might as well make a deal.
Will not happen without Kuzma in the deal. Ball is not that wanted oiutside of LA. Kuzma, Ingram, Zubac, and 2 1st round picks would be the cost. You don’t get a star like davis without giving up a future star.
It may take Kuzma and Ingram and it would still be worth it. Most people are saying one future first, but the picks don’t matter to the Lakers right now.
Welp we already no which GM is getting fired this summer.
AD’s “agent” works for klutch sports which is owned by lebron james – tampering?
LeBron doesn’t own Klutch Sports, he’s just a client.
Lakers already put a lot of money into the idea of a healthy mid-30’s player. LeBron isn’t getting younger or better. Adding Davis is a no-brained, but losing the young players and the pick is too short-sighted. What will you add around those two guys?
Giving up that much puts the Lakers a year away from being a cap-strung version of the Pelicans with an aging former top-5 player angling to get the coach fired and pressuring the front office to make financially poor moves.
The Lakers/Lebron will bank on players taking veteran minimum to play with AD and LBJ. Shortsighted I agree, but they want to win now.
When that’s the case, it’s hard to argue against.
With all the near playoff teams opting to tank, win now is starting to becoming a refreshing position, albeit, decisiveness always opens the door for only two outcomes: praise for success, or criticism for failure. The latter often being unfairly weighted.
There’s absolutely no rush on NO side to get this done before the deadline.
Celtics are one of the biggest players for AD and the pelicans will wait until they can get involved..
Celtics have the best assets to get this done, the Memphis pick is getting better and better and the young players the Celtics can offer are much better than ball and company. Why risk trading your franchise player for a ball and all the luggage that comes with him as well as the potential for him to be a bust is pretty good.
Nothing happens until the summer..
Memphis pick is 1-8 protected, does not currently convey.
Doesn’t convey this year, in a weak draft. Even if it doesn’t convey next year it’s unprotected the following year. Which is much better than anything the lakers can offer.
NO isn’t going to compete in the west any time soon, so picks in stronger drafts benefit them better.
Exactly. Jaylen Brown, 4 first rounders and other salary is a great deal for both teams.
They have every reason to get the rebuild started. AD has the choice of resigning and his value is lower to a team he says he won’t resign with. It’s obvious he wants to be a Laker. The Lakers have several highly regarded young player and because they have the best chance to resign NO knows they will get a good payout from LA. The longer you wait, the shorter the rental, and I think the Rose rule takes Boston just about out of this one.
Pels have him locked up for another year and a half. Hopefully, they won’t wimp out and just accommodate him, taking a package of decent assets. They should make clear what the deal has to look like, and let Davis and his minions figure out how to get one of the teams he likes to find it and pony it up. The Celtics, I’m sure, will engage the Pels, and indicate what they’d be willing to do in July; if it’s the right package, they’ll wait.
Pels might just blow it up completely. Jrue Holiday could be a nice consolation prize for a team that can’t work out a deal for Mike Conley.
Magic get
Jrue Holiday
Pels get
Evan Fournier
Jonathan Isaac
Then can probably do the inevitable Davis to the Lakers deal and have a decent young set up.
You think the magic will give up isaac for holiday lmao!
Yes I do. A quality starting PG is a lot harder to find than a 6’10” project. Isaac is a lot closer to being the next Marquese Chriss than a superstar. The potential is there for N.O., but Orlando is a team on the way up. They need better players if they want a couple of legit playoff opportunities.
I know everything is posturing, but I will give Paul and Davis some credit for announcing this now, as it gives the Pels plenty of time to find a deal and maintains some value in Davis having 1-1/2 years before FA.
They don’t need that much time. Could happen in days. Ditching Davis is different than ditching, say Parsons.
Davis/Paul jumped the gun by at least a half-season. They embarrassed the game.
Is it possible OKC can acquire AD?
I don’t think it would be possible. Russ and George are the majority of their value, Steve wouldn’t fit the Pels timeline. All they would have left is the future in picks.
Winslow, Bam, Richardson, Derrick Jones jr and two future firsts for AD.
I’m with you, as mentioned above, but I cant do all 4 of those guys. I’d keep Winslow in that scenario, and add the right to swap a 3rd pick, but otherwise literally anything is on the table
If Boston wants him they’re getting him. New Orleans will wait and Klutch sports can do nothing about it.
That’s assuming he will resign with Boston. Depending on who they would give up on their current roster for him would play heavy towards him wanting to stay there. For Boston it’s a gamble. The Lakers, not so much.
Klutch sports can do a whole lot, they can inform Boston that AD wouldn’t be interested in signing an extention with them. They won’t break the bank to rent AD for a year, that would be stupid.
The Heat could start with Whiteside, and go from there. I’m not sure about the financial side between the Heat and Pelicans though.
I wish. No way they could get rid of Whiteside AND get AD in a deal. That would somehow top Toronto getting rid of Derozan AND getting Kawhi and Danny Green in the same deal lol
Three team deal with the Celtics sending kyrie somewhere idk where, use the assets from the kyrie deal, 2 or 3 of the firsts they have this year, a 2021 first and a second for AD
Houston shouldn’t be completely counted out here. They are a long shot no doubt, but they were willing to put 4 firsts up for Butler. That and they aren’t afraid to spend.
4 picks in the end of first round are worthless.
Depends. A first in 2019 or 2020 is going to be a late first. But 2022? There’s no guarantee Houston is still a playoff team in 2022. Remember Brooklyn and their deal with the Celtics? Those far future picks were pretty valuable.
Let’s get real. Use your heads. New Orleans will get a lot of offers and they will be first round low ball offers. It won’t get done in a week. This won’t get done until sometime this summer, so the Lakers, Celtics, Ben Simmons for AD has been mentioned, and others will be in play to compete against each other. Who knows Draymond and Klay might be in play?
Warriors would do draymond but wouldn’t even consider klay
I don’t think they can Klay. I shouldn’t have said that. I don’t think the Warriors would have enough. I do see Philly offering Simmons.
Thought ad wasnt going to be traded? Lmao
He won’t be traded until this summer when the Pelicans can get everyone to compete against each other. Lmao.
Well your fav player Lonzo is broken down and probably safe from trade. Lmao
hearing the pels may wait till after the draft when they know what players are available vs. gamble on unknown lottery selection – makes sense when it s a franchise player being traded
History would advise the Pels to seek quality (controllable), not quantity, and do it around the time of the draft after the order is fixed. Good chance there will be a new bidder with the best asset on the board. If either the Knicks or Bulls win the 1st overall pick (and it’s still deemed that Zion is the best player), they could easily put themselves in play as each has a recent top 10 pick (with 3 RS contract years left) to act as a second asset. Suns might do the same, or a team trading up to get the pick.
Those teams probably wouldn’t be attractive enough for AD to resign. Whoever gets AD will want to know they can resign him, because his price is going to be very very high.
This playing out just like everyone thought. He will be traded for kuzma/ingram, kcp, zubac/mcgee, hart and future 1st rounder.
Lonzo
Ingram/kuzma (whoevers not traded)
Lebron
Ad
Chandler/zubac/mcgee (whoevers not traded)
Bench
Rondo
Bonga
Wagner
Chandler
Perfect time for lakers to get there guy.
Okay the Sixers have enough expiring contracts to do a deal. You gotta out bid the Celtics and Lakers. You’re getting 2 years of AD. Can still re-sign Jimmy Butler. Celtics would give up 1 possibly unprotected pick (Memphis) and 2 picks in the teens and maybe include their own 1 in the 20s. Sixers can match that.
Chandler, Muscala, Patton, Korkmaz, Amir Johnson throw in Fultz (or 3rd team) + unprotected Miami 2021 1st, 2019 Sixers 1st, Sixers 2021 1st. Add another 1st if needed or 2nds.
Embiid/Bolden
AD/Bolden
Butler
Redick/ET Moore
Simmons/Shamet/TJ
I like their chances in the East a lot more. Like their chances against GSW.
So basically the bench and a couple picks for AD why on eats would NO take that they can get multiple young players and picks for AD
None of those players has value and only one of those picks.
Why would AD want to go to a circus like the Lakers??
Find somewhere where there is a reasonable degree of normalacy and meeting his desires about championships.
AD for any combination of ball and Ingram would be amazing. Neither one of them has “it.”
I could really see the Knicks being players here
If they offered
Tim Hardaway
Kevin Knox
Frank Ntikilina
Mitchell Robinson
a completely unprotected 2019 1st round pick
that might be hard to say no to. It’s a lot to give up, but the 2019 draft is fairly weak after the top couple of picks. Do you want a small chance at a potential game changer in Zion or a guarantee of one in Davis? Plus, getting Hardaway off the books gives you a much better chance of getting Durant and Kyrie/Kemba next year.
The Knicks could tread water for another 3-4 years and hope they draft and develop well OR be an instant title contender in 19-20 with a Durant, AD, Kemba/Kyrie trifecta.
Mirotic and Ad for Kuzma, Ingram, Kcp, Mcgee, Beasley, rondo and 2 firsts
Clippers have Tobias Harris and Harrell. Surprised more people aren’t talking about a deal there…
They were 1 of the teams I thought made a lot of sense. They make more sense than the Lakers to me.
If Lonzo is part of the deal he will immediately request a trade. Could get a nice haul from all of it.
