Lakers guard Lonzo Ball will miss four to six weeks with a grade 3 left ankle sprain, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. The Lakers also confirmed the injury and timetable in a press release.
Ball injured his ankle in Saturday night’s game against the Rockets and needed help getting off the court. While Ball struggled with injuries in his rookie season (he appeared in just 52 games), he had stayed healthy this season up until this point, appearing in all 47 games the Lakers have played.
So far in 2018/19, Ball is averaging 9.9 points, 5.4 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game, but continues to struggle with his shot, shooting just 40.6% from the field and 32.9% on 3-pointers.
Rajon Rondo was recently cleared for practice and is nearing a return, which will help a Lakers team that has fallen out of the playoff picture due to LeBron James‘ injury.
Guess they can’t trade him at the deadline now. not sure if they would’ve anyways but they definitely can’t after this. Tough injury for a team dealing with a lot of injuries this year already. Hopefully Rondo and LeBron come back soon and can stay healthy.
They wouldn’t have even considered it.. Lonzo was having an elite second half before the injury.
He’s the future of the team
Then the Lakers’ future looks pretty bleak.
With 32% 3PM and 41% FT if that is elite you’ve got some homework to do on NBA stats.
Very deflating.
Agreed. But has trading for Melo become a why not move at this point?
Lebrons going to run the point.. rondo backup.. Ingram starts at SF.. Melo backup?
Bringing in Melo means less minutes for the kids. The Lakers already have chemistry issues, why add more?
Struggled with injuries his rookie year (appeared in just 52 games) but had stayed healthy this year, appearing in all 47…. healthy is based on 82 games – not 47. Had injuries even in the summer league just after being drafted. Sounds like this may be a recurring theme for him. Like Kyrie and Love, its not “if”, but “when” will they get injured.
Dude. He twisted his ankle on a freak play.
Could’ve happened to anyone..
The knee was just partial meniscus tear.. nothing serious there either.
Duuuuude lol I’ve been following sports for 15 minutes as well and been under the impression that ANY injury can happen to anyone – not just Lonzo’s. But, thanks for the tip!
Too bad. Maybe it will give him time to work on his shot. With the form he has, it’s amazing his shooting percentages aren’t worse. But he can hit wide open 3’s when they back off him, and if he can take fewer contested 3’s it would help. Shot selection can’t help him at the FT line though.
definitely not worthy of big baller status – add in his dad and tmz drama he’s become untradable. maybe flip him for fultz?
Man you are such a troll! Only nasty comments of everything & everyone all the time!
Again, why would they trade the best playmaker in the league .. let alone for an actual bust named Fultz.
Rondo’s put together a long long career with no shot.. now take in that lonzo is both a better playmaker and defender than rondo.
I love all the Baller haters :)
Lakers lose Ball, get back Rondo. That’s a net positive for sure. Can’t believe Lakers brass fell for Lavar Balls pathetic sales pitch. Shows how infallible those who move the millions often are. Balls ceiling is Rondo.
They needed a PG, and rondo has a lot of mileage on him.
Sure Tatum is better, but Lakers are loaded at Forward even before LeBron signed. ..(they wouldve kept Randle if no lebron)
…and one thing people are not paying attention to.. lonzos actually been border-line amazing this year.
He has been borderline but not ”amazing”. Decent would be the proper adjective I believe. When you miss 20 or more games a season you become a liability instead of an asset. His Free throws are well beyond bad 41%. His Three point shot is inconsistent and only any good when uncontested 32%. Turnovers very bad. He makes a lot of assists because he is afraid to shoot and has NO mid range game. Second overall was a BIG mistake and Ainge took him to GM school, slap him around and stole his lunch money. Ouch
