The timing of Anthony Davis‘ trade request caught the Pelicans off-guard, but the franchise has been preparing for the moment since Davis signed with agent Rich Paul, Jake Fischer of Sports Illustrated relays (Twitter links).
Despite the planning, it’s no guarantee that New Orleans trades Davis before the deadline. The front office is well aware of the Celtics’ stockpile of assets and it hopes that Boston will call to discuss the framework of a potential deal once the team is free from Kyrie Irving‘s current deal come July.
The Pelicans hope to compare Boston’s potential offer with the offers from rival suitors. Davis has not given the Pelicans a specific list of teams that he wants to be traded to, Paul tells FS1’s Chris Broussard (Twitter link). However, the timing of the request is curious considering the Celtics can’t make a deal until the summer.
The Knicks are one of the few teams AD would be willing to sign with, and by including their own pick as unprotected could put together a competitive package. The Celtics would be the leader since the Pelicans want Tatum. Simmons and Embiid don’t fit together, so Simmons could happen. Kuzma is the only player on the Lakers the Pelicans would want.
I keep reading the Celtics can’t trade for him since they have Irving contract. (Rosa rule I believe.)
They cant trade for him until kyrie signs a new deal or they trade him
I’m talking this summer. No way he gets traded in a week without getting offers from “everyone” first. I don’t know if Danny Ainge would trade Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier, and picks for AD, but it works on the trade machine. I’d imagine the Celts would hope Memphis conveys next year and they’d draft whomever New Orleans wants with the Sacramento pick this year.
Why would the 76ers trade Simmons? The only one that doesn’t fit in Philly is Butler
Simmons and Embiid both want to play inside. The Pelicans wouldn’t take a trade with Philly without Simmons any way.
Because Simmons isn’t a good shooter, and that’s a killer.
Also he isn’t really even willing to shoot. He makes it 4 on 5 on offense
I would definitely give up ball and Ingram for AD… throw in Kuzma and I’m slightly gun shy, but I’d still do it. Kuz is a player, ball and Ingram are useless. I want to like them both, but they did not impress w/out lebron… that free throw percentage for ball is telling. He can’t shoot and plays too wild. Ingram has the same probs. Trade them now before word is out that they are both busts.
so if u think theyre useless why do u think the pelicans would give up a top 3 player for them lol
They might not have a choice.
Lol I want the Lakers to trade for AD too, but based off your analysis they should offer busts for a generational player… makes great sense for the Pelicans to jump on that offer ha
brow and gentry talked this morning, gentry was quoted “he plans on staying this season without demanding a trade”. it makes sense to see where lottery drafts picks settle and other players involved
I think we all know it’s the Lakers he wants to go to. He requested it now to take the Celtics out of the equation. Sizers are interesting, however do you trade Ben knowing Jimmy can bolt this off season and Anthony the year after? It’s be a huge risk. All and all, it’s the Lakers for Kuz and Ingram, plus pics.
i dont see a trade happening by the deadline. it makes ZERO sense to not get the best offers or in the very least start a bidding war. He’s not a free agent after the year so NOLA doesnt need to move it at the deadline. We’ll see this summer tho
If the Lakers offer Lonzo, BI, Kuz, and picks can the Celtics really top that? Not saying the Lakers will offer their 3 best young players (I hope they do), but while the Celtics have more picks to offer, they are heavily protected and Brown and Tatum < Ingram and Kuz with Brown’s decline this year
If AD goes to the Lakers…..the Warriors will probably try to work something out with Cousins……which would help to neutralize AD to some degree……AD and LeBron without a supporting cast will not be that dangerous……The Warriors are still too deep and solid…..if Durant leaves, then that changes things somewhat.
AD and Cousins liked playing together. I’d bet that if the Lakers trade for AD. Cousins will also sign with the Lakers.
AGREE!!
Davis said nothing when the Pels did not move on a contract offer for Cousins. Also he recruited Randle, I think before Cousins left.
However he might have thought that was all a mistake shortly after the season got underway.
Cousins would get eaten alive trying to defend AD.
