It’s certainly hard to build playoff contenders in the NBA on a regular basis, but the Pelicans have failed to have much meaningful playoff success throughout Anthony Davis‘ career.
As Martin Rogers writes for USA Today Sports, if Davis does indeed leave in the near future, the Pelicans have no one to blame but themselves due to struggles in constructing a competitive team around him.
Pelicans GM Dell Demps has certainly tried to make significant moves to build a contender around Davis, most notably the Pelicans’ trade for DeMarcus Cousins two seasons ago.
There’s more from the Southwest division:
- With the reports that the Grizzlies are willing to part ways with Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, Omari Sankofa II points out for The Athletic that the duo is cherishing the positive moments and victories they can get in the meantime.
- Lonnie Walker received significant minutes in the Spurs‘ latest win. As Tom Osborn details for The San Antonio Express-News, Walker has worked hard to recover from his injury and showcase his potential.
- Chris Paul has returned to action for the Rockets, which excites James Harden, as Liam Blackburn writes for Sporting News. Harden has carried an incredible usage and workload over the past month due to a lack of playmakers and scorers across the Rockets’ roster.
AD will be a Laker eventually, plain and simple.
I agree. Just like Trout will eventually be a Phillie. Some things are just inevitable.
Unless the Phillies prove they can win in the next season or two, no chance they get TROUT. He’s not going from one perennial loser to another.
Trout is most likely an Angel for life.
Haha, I see what you’re doing there. God, I hope not. The Angels future is bright. Minors are coming along nicely. Pujols deal up in 2021. Realistically, the Angels and Phillies are both looking good for the 2020 decade.
As far as basketball goes though, Anthony Davis will be traded to the Lakers most likely. The Celtics can offer a great package, but I feel the changing of agents was his tell that he wants to go to the Lakers. Call me nuts, but I think Kyrie Irving is leaving the Celtics this summer to come to the Lakers.
Lakers should offer Brandon Ingram, Lonzo ball, Josh Hart and two second round picks. New Orleans is probably going to find it in the package they want difficult when Davis says he will not sign an extension with any other team then Lakers. Of course this is just my opinion.
Pelicans did construct a good team around him. They are in the West, good is not enough.
They pulled the trigger on the Jrue trade. Had a seemingly budding start in Tyreke Evans, and Ryan Anderson as a legit Stretch-4.
They went n got Boogie and Mirotic last year. They’ve made moves, but if you dont have at least 2 Top-15 players and a Top-25 player you arent actually competing.
You are right, they’ve been good but not nearly good enough. Adding Jrue was very smart, but they’ve constantly handicapped themselves and have only had one first round pick (Hield) in the six drafts since getting Davis.
New Orleans also has had terrible luck with injuries for several years.
Well you can let Cousins slip away, or Rondo, but letting both go was a bit much.
The 4th & 5th players on the Pels for PT are utility man Etwan Moore and struggling Darius Miller. They have 4 good players but 3 play 2 positions so they have at least 2 weakspots all the time… Meanwhile most teams are 2 deep or close to it.
I think they are adequately starred, but just do not have a full team. GM’s job– they need to get another one. What is it about these teams on the Mississippi!
Demps is gonna mess this whole thing up and AD will leave for nothing and NO will be screwed again forever lol
How many games before Glass Paul goes down again? Over/under is 4.5 games
Anthony David requested a trade 1 hour ago and still no story on here!?!?
It’s monday
I’d like to think they could get it done without trading Lonzo or Kuzma
