Grizzlies rookie power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. has suffered a right quad injury and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets.
Jackson, the fourth overall pick in the draft out of Michigan State, has produced an impressive rookie campaign during an otherwise bleak season in Memphis. He’s averaging 13.8 PPG, 4.7 RPG and 1.4 BPG in 26.1 MPG while playing in 58 games, including 56 starts.
The 6’11” Jackson is shooting 50.6% from the field and 35.9% from long range. He scored a season-high 36 points against Brooklyn on November 30.
The Grizzlies will be cautious with their budding franchise player, Wojnarowski adds. That’s no surprise, as Memphis waved the white flag on a playoff push when it put veteran center Marc Gasol and point guard Mike Conley on the trading block. Gasol was dealt to Toronto but the Grizzlies couldn’t find a palatable trade offer for Conley.
Jackson also leads the league in fouls.
I think his season is average at best not impressive, Ayton, MBIII, Doncic, Trae & WCJ all are having better seasons than him, for some reason I think he gets overrated. Also Bagley & Carter play less than him, with smaller roles in their team but still manage to produce more.
All the players I mentioned plus Bamba once he becomes the starter center in Orlando will end up been better than JJJ, who knows maybe even Knox will end up been better too. I think Memphis could have done better with their #4 pick.
He should be blocking more shots, but then, they’ve been playing him as a 4. Prob thats out of position. I think the rest was predictable.
JJJ’s a better defender and 3pt shooter than most of those guys. I feel like he’s been ranked behind Doncic (obviously), Ayton and Trae all year, which seems fair.
I think he’s been really impressive. Watched that game where he dropped 36 on the Nets, he hit like 3 threes in the last minute including the game winner. 51% from field and 36% from 3 is pretty good for a 6’11 rookie. He’ll end up All-Rookie 1st team w Doncic, Young, Bagley and Ayton. 2nd team Sexton, Gilgeous-Alexander, Knox, Carter and Kurucs.
