DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews may not be with the Knicks very long, but coach David Fizdale is preparing to use them, tweets Ian Begley of ESPN. Acquired in the trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas, both players are veterans with expiring contracts who will be buyout candidates if they aren’t traded by Thursday’s deadline.
“What I want to try to do with them is get them minutes where they can start helping our guys understand defense,” Fizdale said. “DeAndre is going to be a guy that really helps Mitchell (Robinson) and I think having him be able to do it with demonstration and not just words, I think, is going to be important.
“Because DeAndre, he’s a veteran version of what Mitchell is hoping to become. And the same with Wesley. I think Wes is really going to be able to help Dot (Damyean Dotson) and Zo (Allonzo Trier), especially when it comes to defending. So I want to be able to find him some minutes out there so that he can demonstrate it while he’s doing it.”
There’s more from New York City:
- Knicks fans aren’t the only ones dreaming about the possibility of having Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Zion Williamson in their lineup next season. The expected No. 1 pick told Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv he has considered it as well. “It would be dope to play with KD and Kyrie, but like I said I’m enjoying college and whichever team drafts me I’m going to be ready to play hard and work,” Williamson said Saturday after Duke defeated St. John’s. The Knicks hold the top spot in our latest Reverse Standings.
- The prospect of bringing two elite free agents to New York suddenly seems feasible now that the Knicks project to have about $70MM in cap space, writes Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic. Fans welcomed Irving to Madison Square Garden Friday night with a rousing ovation, followed by chants of “We want Kyrie.” However, if the Knicks don’t get their top targets, Vorkunov wonders if they will be content with another year of rebuilding or if they’ll throw that money at players such as Tobias Harris and Kemba Walker.
- The Knicks may have a path to team up Durant, Irving and Anthony Davis, tweets salary cap expert Albert Nahmad. He explains that New York could agree to a deal with the Pelicans before the draft involving its lottery pick, young players and future selections. The Knicks would then take whomever New Orleans wants, add Durant and Irving with cap space and finalize the Davis trade 30 days after the draftee signs his contract (Twitter link).
Not a Knicks fan, and I get that Dolan is a clown, but I dont think that even he could screw up a team that had Irving, Durant, and Davis. If the 3 have a chance to play together, why not do it on the league’s biggest stage- especially considering it’s a championship starved market?
Never like the Knicks! Ever since my cousin son Demetris Nichols got screwed by that Organization! Granted he went Overseas in destroy the Euro leagues! Won multiple Championships! Became the Best International player Syracuse University ever had quote Espn Sports! The Nba just doesn’t like Syracuse player’s! Ask Carmelo who’s being Blackballed as we Speak by the Associate
Lol.
Might I suggest decaf?
Why downvote this?
Gotta like the juxtaposition of “Granted…” and all those exclamation points!
Kyrie wants to be the number one, so does KD why ppl think this could work I don’t understand Kyrie demanded a trade away from Lebron to be the number one on a team so why go n sign with a franchise where he’s not the number one? I don’t get it.
Seriously. Why would KD leave golden state to team up with Kyrie and AD? Makes zero sense. Let me go from this known quantity that has dominated a stacked West and won titles to go join two guys I’ve played a handful of exhibition/international games with. If he wants to shake the can’t win it by himself label, teaming up with 2 top 15 players isnt going to do it
And if someone wants to argue it’s because of Draymond, I will guarantee the warriors would trade him in a heartbeat to keep KD
Thompson has basically said he’ll leave if GS doesnt offer a max deal. Most dont see them offering a max deal to both KD and Klay. It is unlikely the Warriors are as dominant next year as they’ve been…
They lose KD to Knicks, Klay to LA, and bring in Kawhi and keep Boogie. Sounds pretty dominant still to me.
The Warriors open their billion dollar arena next year and ownership said they will field a championship team next year as they’ve got way more season tickets to sale. If KD and/or Thompson leave they will get the next two All-Stars in line for a super max or top level contract. They may look different but they still will be a top team.
The Knicks missing out on KD and Kyrie and then spending max money on Tobias Harris and Kemba would be classic Knicks.
Knick Fan here. Really good point C Daddy and more than likely what actually happens.
Better than nothing, if they don’t score ADavis to set everything in motion. They have to offer every asset they have but it can be done. All this talk about Durant but it is bigger than that… it has to be that big to draw out Durant from GSW or Irving from Boston.
The Davis trade separates all or nothing, though Kemba would make a huge difference for NYK. Good young cheap talent there still, post-Porz.
NBA wants AD and KD In LA with Lebron for ratings thru the roof.
Let’s not forget Kyrie said he’s only playing a few more season! An that was a FLAT remark.
