The Sixers are running out of healthy big men and if it appears that Boban Marjanovic won’t return soon, the team will likely explore options for adding a center to the roster, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Joel Embiid came out of the All-Star break with knee soreness and was expected to miss about a week. Those three games have now turned into six, with Embiid sitting out against the Magic tonight.
“He just doesn’t feel like he’s ready to go,” coach Brett Brown said of Embiid. “He really does feel restricted with some of his movements, there’s a little bit of soreness, I think, still.”
Brown added that he doesn’t have a timeline on Marjanovic. Jonah Bolden and Amir Johnson are both nursing ailments and didn’t practice on Tuesday, leaving. Justin Patton, who came to Philadelphia in the Jimmy Butler deal, as the only fully healthy center on the team.
The Sixers don’t currently have an open roster spot, but could create an opening by waiving a player like free-agent-to-be Furkan Korkmaz, who is currently injured and didn’t have much of a role when he was healthy.
Start Simmons D’ing up the other team’s 5
Spencer Hawes on a 10-day
Kendrick Perkins on two 10-days for light relief in the dog days of the season
Gortat, Aldrich, Marshall Plumlee?
Gortat probably best option best 2 way player
Monroe’s still out there. Unfortunately, it’s Greg, not Earl.
Please dear god get Spencer Hawes and his man bun back in the NBA
Seriously? Been slamming the table for dropping Amir and getting a legitimate back-up in here since Embiid was shelved & Boban went down.
Amir has no place in the league other than with a clipboard in his hand maybe. He played 14 minutes and now is out with injuries? I mean c’mon Elton. You made a couple savvy moves already – cut bait with Amir & Furkan. Ennis and Simmons don’t look like they are working out either but seriously need at min 2 bodies.
I’m down for any re-tread… KJ McDaniels, Melo, Monroe, Lavoy Allen, E. Okafor, if you can ball a lil for 10-15 minutes esp in garbage games sign em up.
You think Simmons has really even received a legit chance as a 76er?? I’m not arguing, simply just asking, cause I really haven’t seen him get much PT in the box scores…
I just know he was a really solid, improving 2-way guy as a Spur, and at times continued to improve with the Magic…Then, idk what happened..Haven’t really heard from him since..
He fell off on both ends. He has looked terrible in games esp if the ball ends up in his hands and he has to put it on the floor. Like he was a -16 against the Knicks in 14 minutes in a game the Sixers won by 15. Has played 6 games with meaningful minutes.
Amir Johnson scored 13 filling in for Embiid as Philly beat Orlando.
Blind squirrel gets a nut every once in a while. If he’s out for the next game or 2 with injuries I would not be shocked.
Can’t believe Fultz couldn’t net them Terrence Ross. Guarantee that’s who they wanted not J Simmons.
How about a Back Up Coach for Brown the Clown
I don’t how talented this team thinks it is or what the fans like, they are still coached by Brown and he is not going to get it done. They could go out and get any center that is available that they like, it still will not change the coaching dynamic between Brown and his players.
