Top-10 prospect Cam Reddish will undergo a core muscle surgery to correct an injury that nagged him during his freshman season, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets.
The Duke forward has a six-week timetable for recovery from what Charania terms a minor procedure. However, the timing of the surgery obviously isn’t ideal with the draft less than three weeks away. Reddish won’t be able to work out for teams and he’ll almost certainly miss summer-league action, which could set him back as he preps for his first NBA campaign. But the timetable provides plenty of optimism he’ll be ready to go for training camp.
Reddish is currently ranked No. 7 overall and No. 1 at small forward by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. Reddish is noted for his physical tools, positional versatility and shooting prowess despite his struggles in his lone Blue Devils season.
Reddish averaged 13.5 PPG but shot 35.6% overall and 33.3% from long range. He also averaged 3.7 RPG, 1.9 APG and 1.6 SPG.
The fact that a 35 per cent shooter (just a hair above one third of his shots!) has been in the conversation for as high as #4 says a lot about how deep this draft is. Outside top 3 not much to scratch
1 year ago he was seen as a possible #1. The talent is still there and I think there are quite a few projected to be drafted 8-20 that will have good careers. Plenty of guys had good college careers, went outside the top 10 and made some GM look smarter than the rest.
Why was the surgery not performed after Duke was eliminated from the NCAA tournament?
Ends up on the Celtics at 14 somehow.
Minor surgery only applies if you are not the guy on the table!
Very good point. People have died from something simple as appendectomies. If you get anesthetized, your life is in danger. But beyond that, complications can happen as well.
Yes, the odds are very small, but the odds are a lot smaller for being in a car wreck every time you drive and that happens.
“However, the timing of the surgery obviously isn’t ideal with the draft less than three weeks ago.”
So the draft has occurred.
3 weeks ago apparently lol
Why not have the surgery and return to Duke instead? Demonstrate that he’s ok and then come out as number 1 or 2
Would seem to be a smart idea, but to most players (and fans) today, patience is not a virtue.
Millions in his face now to be picked top ten or go to duke one more year and come out as another top ten pick and get same millions in your face barring any further injury while not being paid at college. A little perspective from the student athlete side.
Skipping the draft if you’re a lottery pick is not really a smart idea. Plus that’s one less year of earning potential.
Well now he has an excuse for his 35% from 3 (sports hernia). Still a top 10er– google says surgery has a very high success rate.
To me…. This sounds like he has received a promise and he’s not than Satisfied, to go to that team, in that spot. He most certainly could have helped himself in workouts, so he must know where he wants and will go.
My guess….. The Hawks have promised him at 8 or 10.
