Jimmy Butler will meet with the Heat and Rockets as he ponders his free agent options, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Butler will sit down with Miami officials Sunday in South Florida, then will hear Houston’s presentation early next week in Los Angeles, Woj adds. He states that the Sixers haven’t ruled out sign-and-trade deals, which Butler would need to join either team.
Philadelphia still has the advantage of being able to offer Butler a five-year, $190MM deal if it decides to try to keep him, while other teams are limited to four years and about $141MM. However, the Sixers have other concerns with Tobias Harris and J.J. Redick both on the free agent market and Ben Simmons eligible for an extension this summer.
The Rockets have been the most visible organization trying to land Butler, leaking their intentions to pursue a sign-and-trade and reportedly lining up a contingent deal involving Clint Capela. Both Houston and Miami made strong efforts to acquire Butler in November when he demanded a trade out of Minnesota.
I’d gave interesting in the Heats parts moreso than the Rockets. Bam + Justice. Convo starts there.
No way heat give bam and justise
Then they don’t get Butler, mjm. They don’t have the cap space to be choosy.
Good, don’t really want him
Point is, they can make the trade without including them two. And if that’s the price, then enjoy Houston, James
You don’t get THAT much in a sign and trade. They might get Justise, but definitely not both.
They would still need to dump Dragic or Whiteside in the trade. So Bam is prob the price of doing that. Any competent GM would take Bam over a what if protected 1st.
Rofl with what leverage? Waiters, James Johnson and a first round pick or Derrick Jones at most, maybe throw in Duncan Robinson. That arguably upgrades what they traded for him, and fits their needs. I could also see at the absolute most Richardson being involved, but the point would be to pair him and Richardson on the wing
6ers don’t need a bunch of junk on their cap. It would be see ya latter Miami, if Miami makes that kind of offer.
James Johnson is one of the best defenders in the league at the 4 spot, and can playmake from the 4 or 5 spot. Waiters healthy gets into the paint at will and has shot the 3 at a high percentage, and has been really good in catch and shoot situations, if I recall correctly. He also gets paid less than Reddick was making. Both guys get paid less than Covington and have 2 years left on their deals, which is less than a 5 year max or the 4 years Covington signed for. Derrick Jones Jr is a cheap, young emerging 2 way wing player, and Richardson, if included is on a great 3 year deal
I’m not saying Philly will do that, but it’s not crazy to think that could happen if Butler wants to walk and they want to fill those positions. The Houston reports make it even more possible when you consider the Gordon-Tucker potential package being referred to
If these guys are so good how come Miami is sooo bad? If I am Philly I would say no way jose!
Because Miami doesn’t also have Simmons, Harris, and Embiid to throw out there with them? Miami is just a hodge podge of role players. You can’t look at that team and declare all the players suck. They’re just not able to give them opportunities because their primary options aren’t good enough… it’s fairly obvious this is the case it’s not rocket science
This dude is a known heat hater and Whiteside d-rider. He has literally never seen them play a single game, and has no understanding of how today’s game works. This dude doesnt even consider Kawhi Leonard a good player roflmao
You just always say that and have never seen them play. That’s why. Top 6 defense once again, even with their entire team constantly injured, especially Dragic missing 50 games. Also, they still need help at the 4 behind James Johnson. Giving him up arguably creates a whole behind Winslow at the 4. Regardless of all that, the record once Whiteside was finally moved to the bench is also a lot better
And also, unfortunately, I forgot to mention they are abhorrent from the ft line. If they can just be bad, that’s at least another 6-8 wins. That has cost them over the last 3 years, to be honest, especially 3 of the 4 playoff losses against Philly last year. Tyler Herro is already their best FT shooter. Injuries and FTs are the Heats biggest issues
76ers are not driving this Bus, Butler is.
Best possible deal is Waiters and J. Johnson both need areas for the 76ers and better players than they gave up to get him.
IF he decides on the Heat.
Then again he can always walk.
“Money for nothing and tricks for free” will be shame on 76ers.
Wouldn’t sweat it, Jimmy Buckets full of 5 year cash on the way.
No skip, no
Sixers don’t have to do anything. If he wants max, they’re in the driver’s seat.
Wow. Waiters?!?!?
Ummmm. No
Wow we literally said the same thing lol
You Heat fans are crazy. Waiters is useless! Sixers would be better walking away letting him find a useless team to get a max from before taking junk players and over filling their cap.
Ummmh… sorry but Saric is waaay better than JJ & RoCo is sooo much better than Waiters… must be a hardcore Heat fan, right?
Two teams that don’t have cap room. I think his agent needs to do his job and get him in front of teams that have cap room and can complete. Lakers, Clippers, Nets, Kings…Sixers?
Probably don’t want him unless they can’t get what they want, even then most would probably pass.
Butler is running this train. He decides who to meet with. If he wants boatloads of Cash, he stays put. If he moves on then Philly can work with him to get something or just write it off as a lose with nothing to show for it.
Win/Win for Butler.
If he walks Philly gains a nice cap space, so… if he doesn’t wanna stay I’d rather he walks than take Riley’s junk & overpaid bums!
If i were sixers id try to get gordon and tucker and resign harris for max. Gives them shooting and depth.
Harris isn’t a max player if we are being honest here.
Neither is Butler.
Butler is definitely a max player
I live in Pennsylvania & there are reports that the Sixers have little interest in helping out the Rockets. They’re not happy about the way the Rockets have handled their pursuit. If they offer Butler the fifth year, he’ll take it. Otherwise, the Sixers are more likely to deal with Miami in a sign & trade than Houston.
why would the sixers be more inclined to help a conference rival versus a non-conference one?
Better parts to complete the deal.
Sounds about right on media hype. Riley keeps everything pretty much out of the spotlights. Know it really ticked him off when Wolves leaked a possible deal earlier.
Just don’t hold your breath for some big haul of players.
Heat can just sit back and wait for cap space next summer. Then be a bank and wait for 2021 Class. Not like they’re a finals team. Butler alone won’t put them there.
Don’t expect Butler for junk parts just because you only want what’s best for your team. I don’t care about either team, it’s just crazy how biased fans are.
