Patrick Beverley is planning on taking as many as five meetings with different teams in free agency before having a sit-down with the Clippers, sources tell Sean Deveney of Sporting News (Twitter link).
Los Angeles plans to chase max free agents and the franchise will likely wait until it has a feel for whether its pursuits will produce another star in the Staples Center before circling back to Beverley. The point guard won’t necessarily wait for the Clippers to carry out their plan before accepting an offer elsewhere, per Deveney.
Beverley could be a target for the Lakers and Bulls. He’s from Chicago, recently declaring that he believes he can help the Bulls.
“I think I can save the city,” Beverley said recently. “I inspire already. And I’d be a great inspiration just walking around the city of Chicago, knowing I’m from there, knowing that someone made it out and you can go and do the same. I’m a Chicago kid.”
Shortly after Deveney tweeted out his report, Beverley tweeted “Never personal just business……….” It’s possible the two are unrelated.
Beverley should be kept. Clippers may get robbed by waiting. This guy is tough and fearless. He guarded LBJ and shut him down! “Deny the ball”. My high school coach is smiling.
Smart for Pat Bev to see what his value is to a few other teams before sitting down with the team he’s emotionally invested in who can probably convince him to take less money if they talked to him first. At this point he’ll have to choose between taking the minimum to chase a ring or get his market value which is definitely more than the minimum. One of the best defenders in the league and one of the guys you want on your team vs playing against him
Lakers…..PBev and DGreen, Kuz, LBJ, AD start. Seth, Bullock, Gay, Muscala, McGee 2nd string.
Wowww this is best case scenario for the Lakers. I was wondering how they could spread that money and make it work for multiple pieces vs 1 max and filling in with veteran’s minimums. I’m not sure if ~26 million is enough for Pat Bev, Danny Green, Seth Curry, Rudy Gay, and bringing back Javale if they want market value but if they want rings I can see all those guys taking less to be on the Lakers this year. Seth is the only one I see who might be looking for a bigger role/bigger contract. And he certainly deserves it after the year he had for Portland.
Agree. AD needs to decline kicker and lakers need to close the trade July 30. That gives time about 32M. I’m pegging PB at $10m, Green At $14, Seth $7 and then you need Gay to come in at 6 and JaVale to take midlevel of 4.7. It’s a long shot. M not crazy about Muscala, but he’s decent from 3 , we have bird rights and not a ton of PF on FA market.
I also think the Lakers should go after Beverley (LBJ would love to have him as a teammate rather than an opponent), Rudy Gay & Seth Curry (Wesley Matthews is also a free agent, though). But don’t forget that MELO is going to join his friend Lebron in chasing a championship for the Lakers. Brook Lopez also looks like a good fit for an AD-LBJ team. Lebron and AD will also need a “police-bodyguard” on the team to protect them from enforcers of other teams. Z-Bo perhaps or Zaza??
I think you can get Bev, Seth, and Gay with that money. Then I would sign KCP, Javale, and Bullock – you don’t need cap space for them, since they are the Lakers FA’s, they can go over the cap to sign them.
They don’t have bird rights for KCP or Javale since they had signed only 1 year contracts. So they can’t go over the cap to sign them. Not sure if they hold Bullocks or not so he could be a possibility.
Sounds like Beverleys perception of his ability isn’t in line with reality. Save the city? No.
Cubs already saved the city in 2016
He’s not Batman. Jordan “saved” the city.
cubs draw suburban white people and WGN viewers. They’re not about the city, never have been.
he should be able to get 6-10mil a season on a 2-3 year deal …. but I would think if he wanted a ring he would sign with Lak on a min or mid level if they have it.
He’d also fit great with Philly. Could start alongside Simmons or slide to a 30 mpg 6th man.
I also think the Lakers should go after Beverley (LBJ would love to have him as a teammate rather than an opponent), Rudy Gay & Seth Curry (Wesley Matthews is also a free agent, though). Collison is also worth a look for the Lakers.
