Before reaching an agreement on Saturday to send Anthony Davis to the Lakers, the Pelicans showed “sincere interest” in Wizards guard Bradley Beal, according to Ben Standig of NBC Sports Washington. Sources tell Standig that New Orleans remains interested in Beal and that the two teams “broadly” discussed a trade scenario involving the All-Star guard.
Despite the interest from the Pelicans and other contenders, the sense from league sources is that the Wizards still plan on keeping Beal, says Standig. The discussions between Washington and New Orleans “never veered close to actual negotiations,” a source tells NBC Sports Washington.
While the package the Pelicans secured from the Lakers in exchange for Davis is heavy on young players and future draft picks, there have been plenty of rumors suggesting that New Orleans would be interested in flipping this year’s No. 4 pick or other assets for a veteran.
Beal would be a best-case scenario for the Pels, but the Wizards have resisted the idea of trading the standout guard, despite the fact that he’ll be without his backcourt mate John Wall (torn Achilles) for most or all of the 2019/20 season. Washington has yet to name a permanent head of basketball operations, but Tommy Sheppard is running the front office on an interim basis and it appears that he and owner Ted Leonsis are averse to moving the club’s most valuable player.
This is the second time this week that we’ve heard of the Pelicans’ potential interest in Beal, as Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Monday that league executives believed New Orleans was monitoring the Wizards guard.
#4 + Ball + Hill +? What were the LAL projected trades that they turned down?
Are the Knicks involved with #3?
Back-up plan for the Celtics?
Wouldn’t Atlanta make a lot of sense to bring in a proven AS vet. 8 + 10 + one of Spellman/Huerter/Bembry. Collins and Young are prob untouchable. If they take Mahinmi back they probably have to give up less.
A 3-team with Crabbe + assets to Wiz, Bazemore to 3rd team, and Atl takes Beal + Mahinmi
Hawks have enough assets to acquire Beal without giving up TY or JC. Probably giving up Huerter though. Beal, Trae, and JC would push the Hawks to at least an 8 seed next year depending on how FA shakes out.
The Hawks are not concerned about making the playoffs next year. They are in team building mode. Beal doesn’t fit them now. Acquiring Hunter or Culver or Barrett is what they would trade up for.
If I’m NOLA, I’m thinking how do I get Ball to the Suns for their pick. Can snag Garland with the 4th (don’t need Beal with Jrue at the other guard position and Hart backing up) and can pick whatever player they want with the other pick (Hunter, etc.).
I just don’t get the talk regarding this trade…this year was always going to be a write off for the Wizards anyway…Beal will stunt the growth of the young talent that NO can grow…not to mention he will walk after two seasons of losing
Rondo worked with Holiday so they must not have any faith the Ball will develop at all…because if it’s not Ball that they move…then they are going to have a lot of back court players and none of them big enough to even play at the three and that’s just not going to put you in a winning position in the current NBA
need my celtics get on beal, maybe eat a bad contract
Logically, Beal’s best move would be to go to the Rockets or Warriors or the Mavericks or the Lakers. He’d be able to continue playing his kind of game AND he gets a legit shot at an NBA title with Houston or GS or LA. Playoff run with Dallas.
